Warehouse 13 - The Tesla Gun

When I made the meters and numbers I did it in photoshop. I redid the font a little so you won't be able to find the exact font. There are a few that come close though. If someone tries to share the font or meters from one of my Teslas, please please don't try and remove the meter from the prop. It will break and you'll ruin your collectable. That goes for the fonts as well. Don't try and trace or anything like that. The fonts on the prop are delicate rub-ons exactly as I did for the show heros. You will hurt the prop. When you guys get to a point where you need help, i may be able to make you guys something close to use but I can't go exact for NDA reasons. I would rather do that than see someone ruin their prop. Plus, to try and scan the mini pics of the meters is pointless anyway. Is anyone even close to needing templates? Like I said, I would be open to making you guys something close but I can't give out the original artwork. How's that sound? Fair enough?

Everything you choose to share with us Kenney is always fair to both sides. You try to do your best for QMx and for us. One can't ask for more. A lot of people are going to be very happy with close. Besides it gives the fan made replicas a unique character of their own They will pass all but the closest inspection..

Does anyone have a Hi-res picture of the side mini meters, I will be tackling this next. Also I need pics on the brass piece that sits between the two tubes in the back...Thanks.

I'm not at a stage where I need the templates yet, it was just a random thought I had. I'm still in my "gathering components" phase and figured if they existed I'd go ahead and get them to add to the pile :D

I'm probably a long way off from beginning construction. I've still got to acquire more raw materials and a tool or two for cutting/milling (unless I can find a reasonably priced supplier for some of the more difficult parts to craft).

Anything you can provide is greatly appreciated Kenny, we all appreciate the information you are sharing :)

No most of us haven't really gotten that far I guess. I've had no opportunity to do any work on mine; just search for tubes. Since we'll probably never know the exact size, DPI etc, we'll likely have to wing it until it looks right, eh Kenney? wink wink LOL

I was even looking at these little things but think they are too big.

Where did you find that? I'm fairly sure if you get it out of the case it'll be much smaller, no way to put two of those in the barrel but I'd be satisfied with one to differentiate my Teslas I'm building.

It's a jewelry item on eBay:lol. Weston Meter Jewelry. Contact the maker and he might sell you a few of the dials!

Okay. I'm finally just about done! All that's really left to do is paint and attach the dial and attach a small piece of brass tubing along the handle. As I stated way back when I started, I purchased the GoodModel resin kit, but did a lot of modifications. This including replacing all the tubes with ones I built, altering the main "chamber" to add detail, replacing the resin coil with brass tubing and creating new decals for the dials. Phew. Oh, and this is the first kit I've ever done, so it probably has 1,000 things wrong with it. Still, here's what I'm ending up with...

Like I said. I saw the Quantum Tesla model at Comic-Con, but could never swing spending $1,200 on it. So, this will do. :)

Damn Clinton! You've got me beat by a mile! The only "glitch" catching my eye is that top copper post, can you straighten it up?
The dial decals look absolutely great!
Cheers, Jeff

Yes I6 indeed it is. LOL. I was doing a search for VU meters for the box and it came up. I thought about asking if the "meter" part was something (s)he had made or made him/herself. It is a novel idea for jewelery that's for sure. Can you tell from the photo if it is an actual meter movement or just a picture? I know they are based on full sized Weston meters according to the ad.

Thanks for the kind words. And thanks for all the help the forum gave me. I honestly couldn't have done this without the RPF!

Ok got most of my tubes yesterday.

Going to make one using the tubes, the others I'm going to use the preforms when possible.

A few questions, I haven't broken a tube since I was a kid (Dad was a ham radio operator), whats a safe way to do so?

Preforms aren't going to work for the rear tubes - any other options out there to cover them that doesn't involve casting.

I wouldn't cover with resin... been there and done that. It just doesn't look right. Listen.... why ever try and cover it? Unless you plan on dropping it, I think you should use real tubes just as is. It will look a lot better and you'll be much happier. The only reason I made acrylic is because of the possibility of the actor dropping it. Remember, real tubes were used at first before going to acrylic. I think the real glass looks way cool. If you measure the distances between the pins and drill holes to match in the front circular disc, you can plug the tube in like the original. That's just my oppinion. Maybe this helps you a little.

P.S. Hey timelordd, the pic in the background where you're showing the "trigger" details looks like one of my guns. :) Can't wait to see your finished prop my friend.
