WAR MACHINE Mark II (Formerly Canadian Patriot) Repaint Complete - VIDEO First Post

Re: IRON PATRIOT Costume TUTORIAL Part 5B -Cardboard Building (HELMET) Page 3

I mention in the video both resins a couple of times.

Whatever you have, use that.

So sorry about that. Because I thought we can use either fast harder or resin on the outside. But on the inside we have to use the resin for the fibreglass mat. Apologies!

Re: IRON PATRIOT Costume TUTORIAL Part 5B -Cardboard Building (HELMET) Page 3

No worries but remember. It's called expoAmite. (Epoxy Resin) Part A base

" the fast hardener" is the Part B Catalyst. It's what makes it cure to plastic.

- - - Updated - - -

Do you fiberglass over the eyes too? So it's all closed up and somehow trim it off later?

Also, with a paper cardstock build as opposed to corrugated cardboard, on some pep files there are 'lips' on the inside of the helmet i.e. they are in 2 parts; where the faceplate joins the main body of the helmet, how do you go about fiberglassing that? Do you just wrap it around the edge or ... :/
I'll cut out the eyes. I'll show you guys anyhow. no worries.

For the helmet -
Just join the faceplate to the helmet with some card stock underneath. It will be like a bridge to merge the faceplate and base helmet together. I don't usually make those lips. I find that over kill. It's great work on the modelling but not really needed when actually building it. When you cut the helmet apart, You'd want that actual seam. The seam made by the dremel cutting tool. not by that lip. Don't worry too much about it.

Great job STEALTH. Trying to get this done by Halloween and your videos are a great assist.

Yeah, I'm gonna hit up all the cons I can next year in Ontario. You guys just keep me posted and I'll reach out.

Re: IRON PATRIOT Costume TUTORIAL Part 5B -Cardboard Building (HELMET) Page 5

It sucks here in Sydney Australia, only one con a year :(

Re: IRON PATRIOT Costume TUTORIAL Part 5B -Cardboard Building (HELMET) Page 5

for those following this Tutorial.

Would it be cool to do a video just covering the materials/tools needed for the Sanding filling stage?

It's very important to have these things to achieve a decent result, even if it's your first time sanding and stuff.
I don't want to quickly skim over them before moving to the actual work.

I want to explain each thing in detail so you know why you're using it and how it works.
Plus, it gives people time to get the items before the next video is out.
I've noticed a lot of people hear certain things like resin or "bondo" and just use it in the wrong context when asking me questions.

It makes me wonder whether they've just ruined their current project doing it the wrong way due to misusing the material/tool.

Thanks

yea i think it would be good to cover the topic of tools and materials for bondo

also will you be making a suit out of cardboard or is that just the helmet your using it with ?

Re: IRON PATRIOT Costume TUTORIAL Part 5B -Cardboard Building (HELMET) Page 5

I think that would be a great idea STEALTH. You're right, this is the most important part of making a suit. All the detail is in this stage. I can't speak for everyone, but I would definitely watch a materials video for sanding/filling.

Sounds like a great idea Stealth, it would be great to make sure I have everything needed to achieve a semi decent suit

Re: IRON PATRIOT Costume TUTORIAL Part 5B -Cardboard Building (HELMET) Page 5

I would be doing the armor out of Foam due to time but you could just apply what you learn for the helmet for everything else, if you really wanted to make the costume out of Cardboard and resin/fiberglass/Filler. It wouldn't be hard at all to take that info and use it for that.

I'm actually hoping to see some full cardboard Suits made out of this. Cardboard has been used by a lot of us but it's been sort of a sleeper.

I don't think cardboard get the props it deserves in regards to using it with Pepakura.
People have been getting caught up with strengthening foam when Cardboard is a more reaslistic, cheaper option to build the base suit and strengthen with resin. Even looks crisper.

Hopefully someone will go all out and make it a replica.

Like BlackDynamo1 has done quite often.

I am currenting making a cardboard MK 2! I just haven't made a thread yet.

Re: IRON PATRIOT Costume TUTORIAL Part 5B -Cardboard Building (HELMET) Page 5

Ok, that's a good enough response for me. Thanks guys. I'll get that one out this weekend along with the initial filling and sanding vids. Hopefully it doesn't rain.

Re: IRON PATRIOT Costume TUTORIAL Part 5B -Cardboard Building (HELMET) Page 5

Way to go, looking good as always

Thanks man, should have the next video out by the end of the night. It took a lot longer to film/edit just explaining the materials than the actual building videos I did in the past for this series. So, I'm glad that's over with.

After this " basic Materials/Tools" video it will be all practical hands on visual work that I will be doing commentary over.

Re: IRON PATRIOT Costume TUTORIAL Part 5B -Cardboard Building (HELMET) Page 5

What tool is needed to sand the bondo?.........

Great work Stealth, always following you bud

Cant wait for the next update ;)

Re: IRON PATRIOT Costume TUTORIAL Part 5B -Cardboard Building (HELMET) Page 5

hahah you definitely don't need any of my tips man. I'm covering a basic but effective approach to Sanding/filling etc

Any tips you or anyone can add will be appreciated and will be added to this as I go.
