War machine 1st attempt

Super awesome thread btw! keep up the great work!:) I hope you finish everything so more people can be inspired (including me)
 
So since i had a pause fon my War Machine .I been working on Patriot...i decided i will continue this thread adding my other armor..so it starts here..

For a tip those who are doing this in paper..i noticed theres a lot of slits..sometimes they don't come out right..or at least with me....lol..heres a few examples...i know their bad..lol...

I actually used some card stock and old mail card that i had to reinforce the inside..not only does it look a lot better but it also adds some reinforcement and will hold the resin in place or at least not drip through the slits..also is scraps anyways your not wasting paper..lol..

Nice build as always, I have a suggestion.. I'm doing War MAchine now and I'm still pepping the parts, anyways, I found out that hot glue can be messy and sloppy (at times when not used properly) and it can burn your fingers (which hurts a lot, got a few blisters because of that) and as an alternative, I used Craft Glue which is WAAY better than elmers white glue because a. It dries relatively quicker than elmers glue but gives you enough time to align all the parts needed unlike hot glue which dries on you sometimes and you have to heat the dried glue again . b. it is very durable and doesnt melt when exposed to heat. c. Very cheap d. doesnt burn your fingers like hot glue. e. Very user friendly, as you can apply the glue only to the flaps you need and it wont spill out so its not messy.. I dont know what its called in USA, but in our country, its just called Craft Glue, somewhat yellowish brown in color and is less viscous than elmers glue (which is watery). I think 3m manufactures something like it:) give it a try, I hope that would help:) and for sealing those little seams so the resin wont leak, I use hot glue. This way, we wont have burnt fingers!:) A friendly suggestion to all of you:)

Thanks for the tip...I will look for it at store to try it..for now I will keep using this hot glue..i used 1 1/2 bags of glue stocks the long ones for about 6 bucks i think..so not bad for building most of my suit n part of patriot..
 
About those cut lines.... Yeah, there are A TON of extra cut lines in the patriot that really don't need to be cut. I ended up rebuilding one of the thighs just because I had already cut all those extra lines without realizing I should leave them alone. I did like you did, reinforcing the back with stock too, otherwise the resin just made those areas ripple really bad.
 
Hi this is my first post on this forum :)
I've been looking at building a war machine or iron man suit for awhile, typical that i start looking into it then have to wait 3 days until the site was updated lol.
I've just read all 19 pages of your war machine build and it looks amazing, I was going to build one out of foam but your build is making me think twice and consider building it with resin.
Most I've ever done so far is build a freddy kreuger glove from copper WP_000981.jpg (which i never got to wear my daughter worn it for halloween instead lol)

But anyways keep up with your amazing work I look forward to seeing it once your complete and if i manage to start building my own hope you don't mind if i start harassing you for advice! :D
 
I'm honored...lol..you Posted your first post on mine....Well there isn't many finished war machines out there including mine...but i promise it WILL be done this year for Halloween.my patriot also...feel free to ask any questions happy to help....

Can you believe I don't own a printer <.< I've had to buy one, I convinced my wife we needed one to print the holiday and wedding photo's off! (which happened only five years ago) lol
(not sure how I'll convince her about the resin n stuff yet o.0) she's usually pretty understanding when i start off on something my glove was created over a few weeks after work hour here and there and took up the kitchen table with a dremel...ruined the table but these things happen.

I need to ask a question, When my printer turns up i plan to start off with the helmet I've downloaded the same pepakura files you used for your build, what ratio would be best to print it off? bear in mind i have a big head haha.
What type of paper would be best to buy? and would you recommend buying a hot glue gun or would i be ok buying some form of paper glue?

Irecomend you do something easier than the helmet... The helmet was my first pep it came out decent but im not too happy with it..good thing if fits a little tight on me so i will be doing a bigger one later... you should do the torso..it may look like a lot but you have big parts which make it easier.. well for me it was...then do the helmet....i use a 110 card stock with hot glue... i prefer hot glue because you dont use muchits cheap ...dries faster and if you mess up you can reheat and fix(you will need to do that many ..times)...:).....the only downfall i found using hot glue you can get burned....even if you try your best..YOU WILL GET BURNED!!!!..lmao..ive got like 6 small blisters and one long one along my thumb...(i was putting hot glue on a little strip like 2 inches long when i was ready to put in on thepart it flipped over on my thumb.....:(.....well many pople will tell you their ways.. This is how i do it....hopefully i made sense... well good luck on your builts..
 
Hello again Don.

Though I'm itching to make the helmet I'm going to follow your advice and begin with the chest/torso, I'll be buying some decent paper tomorrow to print off the pepakura files (my printer turned up today) in your experience what size would you recommend I print the chest pieces at? I'm 5'8" I realise I'm a short arse lol but i'm hoping I can do something clever with the boots to make me a little taller but I'll come to that bridge when i get there :)

I would have to say there is definately no "wrong" way to start doing pepakura. I have to agree with Don Juan, Stealth and any number of folks with history, that the helmet is much harder than it looks. I personally think the torso, arms or thighs are a great place to start.
That's where I started and its worked out pretty good so far! :)
