WannaWanga ANH Graflex Configuration

What is the easiest least messy way to remove the grips from Roman’s ANH bottom and clean away any residue without damaging the bottom itself or the grips? I’d like to reuse the grips if I can, but I’m not sure if they will fit in Roy’s new guide. Has anyone else tried this already? What do you all use to reapply grips after they have been removed?

To remove my Roman's grips I froze the bottom and used pliers to grab the grips (by the base, not the fin) and pop them off. My grips have minor plier marks, and I wasn't being careful at all. Acetone took the residue off the tube much better than scraping or rubbing did. The grips fit in the guide I printed, but some of them are a little too long. As designed, the bottoms of the grips are uneven while the tops would be an even distance from the clamp. That doesn't work if all your grips are the same length.

There's talk about adhesives for grips on the previous page of this thread.

Yup! The freezer trick can work, I have always had good like with fishing line

I’m a huge fan of acetone for cleaning

Be sure to not get any on the actual grip though! Lol

If your too afraid to work with acetone

Goo gone is another great product, and the orange version is environmentally safe! :)

I have also found that WD-40 will sometimes remove grips that use a “grip tape / carpet tape” style of adhesive.

Received Roy’s awesome new grip guide! The only thing holding me back is trepidation over building a third TGS lower half only to then finding out some new bit of info which makes it inaccurate, as has happened twice before.

Also, the mystery orientation of that bottom stamping...

Joined the forum just to say Roy Gisling is a legend!

About to order a TGS Gen2 and I’ve just ordered Roy’s grips; D ring, Clamp Bubbles and grip guide.

Can’t wait to build this!

He’s a great asset to this community! He’s got a cool dog too

Thanks guys! Very kind of you. And yes, Obi is doing very well; the force is with him!

This also gives me the opportunity to announce that I am working on a very accurate stamp for the RAF number on the clamp with great help from The Ninja (thanks Ian)

I might offer this as a service: send me your own side bar and I will add the stamp on your own personal ANH saber. What do you think?

I’m in!

nice idea!
You could maybe also source a bunch of replica side bars that you would stamp and sell. I know I'm short on side bar, I would buy a stamped one for sure to fill that void.
thanks as always for all your work (y)
