Wanna see a $170 ANH Obi Lightsaber?

I set out with the goal of creating a saber more accurate than the Weathered MR saber for alot cheaper than what the MR saber goes for. I wasnt sure if I could do it, not sure I have yet, but I wanted to show her off so far anyway. As it is right now this entire saber cost me around $170, all fanmade parts scrounged from the Junkyard. All metal except for the grenade, the least accurate part at the moment (youll notice its got 9 rows down, not 10 and its a bit warped and doesnt let the windvane post go inset into the top) and overall it needs more weathering, I still need to get some brass and aluminum black, but I think for the price Ive put it together for, its pretty close to the quality of the MR saber, and more accurate considering the MR version doesnt even say "Graflex" on the clamp... :p Anyway, I appreciate any thoughts or advice on finishing her up, I dont claim to be an expert, fairly new to sabers.

A big thanks to those of you here whove help me collect all the parts. And if anyone has an aluminum grenade body, LMK :D On to the pics.

I've only started looking into sabers recently but man, for 170 that thing looks brilliant... BOTH THAT and the Vader saber, very well done man, awesome work. I cant wait to see what else you do.

Thats pretty good, especially if it's all original parts.

Are you planning on drilling into one of the notches on the pommel for the D-ring, or leaving it untouched?

theyre fanmade parts. The D ring is there, just cant see it in the pics, updated one pic to show other side with ring.

That looks fantastic, especially the grenade; if you hadn't posted that it was resin, I'd of guessed it was metal--really nice paintjob on it. :thumbsup

^Agreed.^

The whole piece is made even more impressive when one learns the total cost. B)

Resin can be drilled with a flat drill bit for wood. The hardest part could be finding the exact center. If you drill too far, you can just put some putty on the inside.

Not to get off track but...where can one find the brass "neck" piece? Is it a found object?
It is part of the grenade. On the real grenade, it screws into the steel "frag body". Not all fan-made replicas are tapped/threaded however.

thanks
That, would be THE hardest piece to find. I sold Kylash his windvane, which I got when I was looking for parts to make my own Obi ANH (before I went nuts and started to look for all real parts).

Sort of regretted selling that windvane, and for a song. I'm gonna claim temporary insanity :p

I thought the windvane was familiar... I guess I do need to get the resin grenade of mine to Kylash since it was made for that windvane.

That was my windvane. I got it from Ryan of Randomsabers as he was clearing his shop earlier this year.

What about that Parks Sabers place?.....they sell the same piece it looks....made from aluminum. are they good?? I'm just trying to make my FX obi hilt look a lot better, along with Lukes from ROTJ, and was wondering about that piece. thanks for all the info...i love this place
