Wands!!!

I'm slowly learning about wands (and other costuming stuff from the Harry Potter series, of course). I am trying to piece together a surprise costume for my wife.

I have a couple of questions about wands (that's the reason for my two topics - one in Costuming and one here in Props).

I saw this here: http://www.noblecollection.com/catalog/product.cfm?id=NN8028&catid=21

And I want to know how it compares in size to the un-illuminated one: http://www.noblecollection.com/catalog/product.cfm?id=NN7021&catid=21

And then how does that one compare to this one: http://www.alivans.com/custom/cart/edit0.asp?p=96031

Suggestions, reviews, pictures...any help would be great!

I have the Hermione Illuminating Wand... I originally purchased it for 15 dollars on clearance at Barnes and Noble, so I can't be TOO picky about it. The radius of the wand is going to be bigger than the static/un-illuminated wand because of the batteries (two AAAs). The light-up feature is nice, but it is really touchy at times; don't store it with the batteries in it, because just the slightest bump can turn it on.

As for the details, it is nice, but the paint job/sculpt on the non-illuminated wand appears to be better. Plus, the non-illuminated one is made of resin, so it will feel much more solid than the plastic one. I guess that's the trade-off for the light-up feature though.

In almost every case I'd prefer the Alivan's wood to resin or plastic... except this one.

You've seen those clumsily-carved Indonesian decor pieces in the various import stores, flea markets, and suchlike?

Wellwhoever is carving those, carved that Alivan's wand. Plus the leaves are waayy too fat. I tried fixing both problems on mine, getting in real close with some detail files - and the whole thing snapped.

Less than impressed.

The turned wood ones though I'd expect to be MUCH MUCH better. :)

I have the Alivan's wand and frankly I'm perfectly happy with it. It may not be 100% accurate, but if you're also looking at the illuminated wand you probably don't care about being 100% accurate. The Alivan's looks like wood (since it is). I have the Harry Noble Collection wand and while nice, it looks and feels like resin.

here's one from the same website I mentioned in the costuming section
(for the sweater, skirt, etc.)

not bad for it's price

Thanks - exactly what I was looking for - can you post some pictures of the two next to each other?
Hey man, sorry, I've been gone all night. I don't actually own the resin version; it looks like you've made up your mind, but if you'd still like, I can post some pics of my illuminating Hermione wand.

post them if you would please, I wouldn't mind seeing what it looks like
(need a B-Day gift idea within the next 2 weeks)

Accuracy is a huge deal to me...The picture of the illuminating wands looked nice...but those pictures can be decieving. I thought maybe they were around the same size as the resin ones, but with a light at the end, that's why I wanted to double check first.

Any images would not only benefit me, but other costumers or prop collectors down the road.

My searches on here didn't come up empty, but they were lacking in detail.

All images are without flash, aside from the shot of the box. The third picture is of the hidden button that controls the brightness of the wand.

And just for fun...

I have an original screen used Potter wand coming in the post.

I'll post pictures when it arrives....
