WandaVision

I equated the island with Wanda's feelings of isolation after the death of her parents, Pietro and Vision. She is an island surrounded by a vast ocean from which threats can come leaping out at her, Tony's weapons, Ultron and Thanos, to take what she holds most dear, her family. As the advert said, all she has to survive is "yo-magic".

I would also add. If the adverts represent Infinity Stones, the Yo Magic seems to be the Soul stone advert. With its symbolism of death and how nothing can cheat death, not even "yo-magic".

What I cannot place right now is what the commercial with the kid who starved to death on an island have to do with the overall theme of the show?

It could also be in reference to the Soul Stone. Each of the commercials have pretty much revolved around the Infinity stones: The toaster is the Mind stone, the watch Time, the soap is Space (the tesseract), and the paper towels is the Reality stone. They all intersect Wanda's actual feelings as well; Vision is literally called a toaster at one point (and the toaster looks like him with the mind stone in the middle). The theme of End Game for them was needing more time, and Lagos is obvious.

For the Soul stone and this recent commercial, her and Pietro watched their parents die as a result of Stark's weapons and were forgotten about for several days in their torn apart home, so I'm assuming they reached a point of starvation and waiting on an "island" they couldn't get out of without help. They so desperately wanted a magical way of getting out and getting revenge, hence why they had the will to survive Strucker's experiements.

its Lizzys birthday today,

Happy Birthday Lizzy,

Um... It's not based on bewitched. I'm not sure where you go that... unless you assumed and haven't actually watched the show. It's been drawing on the motif of a LOT of sitcoms from the 1950's to the 2000's with the most recent "Malcolm in the Middle" riff.

But, sure... continue to feel some sort of way about it.
The second episode was heavy bewitched, front the credits, to her clothes, to the house interior, etc. All that was missing was recasting the husband in that episode to cinch it complete.

I watched the trailer and bewitched jumped out, thats all i,m saying, the setting, feeling, home stuff etc.

Malcolm and the middle i have heard of but that must be a load of crap too, american dreary tv..

Dont get me wrong i like the actors in wandavision, just not certain of the concept.
It's much much more than just a Bewitched parody or even homage. They spoof much more than just Bewitched and it's not just an old sitcom parody show. Part of the setting relates to old sitcoms, true, but it's not the premise of the show. I really recommend watching it and see for yourself what the show is really about and how Bewtiched and other old sitcoms are not the basis for the show, just part of the setting. Also, you'll have to watch more than just the first episode to see what's going on because the show develops little by little with each episode and with each passing episode, the sitcom aspect of it becomes less a part of the show.

From someone whose not even a fan of Marvel (not knocking it at all), WandaVision is worth watching. Even without recognizing the easter eggs and knowing the background material it's still enjoyable. The few negatives: the sitcom world is overplayed at the onset, the dialogue is weak at times and seems like there's a lot of fan service from what I can tell (that's Disney for you). The positives: it's a bit different than the usual superhero fare, the alternate reality theme is done well, excellent production values, the characters are developing/progressing and the story is interesting so far. I'd give it at least 4 episodes. If you don't like it at least you'll have actual reasons instead of guesses based on a trailer.

It was also the interior of the Dick Van Dyke show. Evidently they brought Dick in as a consultant for the sets. He had an interview recently where he stated he had "no idea" what the MCU was...lol!

I think the Dick Van Dyke episode was the first one. Then Bewitched, Brady Bunch, Family Ties, & Malcolm in the Middle in the last one. I'm not positive, but from one of the early trailers that showed Wanda sitting in a chair talking directly to the camera, there's going to be a Modern Family inspired episode.

Some of the set decorators said it was both episodes, as the first had heavy I Love Lucy influences too, as well as the "ottoman" stunt from tDVDs. (even though it actually ran in the 60's...61-66, where as Lucy was more 50's.) I looked like the set remained the same in the second episode.

You're absolutely right. I went back to see what threw me off, & saw 2 things...

First, the 'den' area was shown in the 2nd episode, & that was pulled straight from Bewitched.

Second, the 2nd episode rearranged the placement of the dining room to the kitchen & made the set more like an actual house. Since the first episode was literally 'Filmed Before a Live Studio Audience' it had the linear set of each room beside each other. The second episode was filmed as a show would be on a closed set, with the laugh track added in post. That added the den which faced the living room & front door.

Either way, I hadn't noticed that they were going for the illusion of it all being the same home.

I thought they were talking about the one episode. Obviously the first was DVD, the third was the Brady Bunch, fourth was Family Ties. People say the last was Malcom in the Middle and as someone who watched their fair share of that, i didn't pick up on. It was 20 years ago i guess and apparently not that memorable :)

It's clearly a bunch of different things they're emulating not a single one.

I think a part of it, too, is the progression through time (50's to 60's to 70's etc) is that once she hits present day she's going to snap out of it.

I’ve heard everything from Wonder Man to Hank McCoy. But, haven’t heard anyone who I think would be cooler then seeing Richards.

There’s only one character other than Reed Richards that would actually be interesting, and that’s if her friend is Victor Von Doom.

Every other thing I’ve seen thrown around isn’t exciting at all. Like this new Blue Marvel suggestion...who is Blue Marvel, again? No offense to fans of his, but in the grand scheme of things he’s a nobody that casual comic fans won’t be familiar with, and people who only pay attention to the extended media (cartoons, TV, movies) will have literally no clue who he is. Introducing him would be like introducing just some random character that is brand new to all forms of media.

But at the same time, The Guardians of the Galaxy was an obscure title and yet Marvel made two movies based on them and they proved to be hugely popular. So, if done right, introducing Blue Marvel could work.

The problem is they're using it as a big deal so to speak. They keep referring to it, but never tossing out a name - ever. If it wasn't someone that people there'd be no real point in holding the name back. If it was a Blue Marvel, even those in the know would be 'pfft, that's it?' more or less. That vast majority (99% of the viewing audience) likely wouldn't know who that is. I don't.

You don't hold back a reveal for a name that hardly anyone knows...

I feel that’s an entirely different ballgame, to be honest.

Many of Marvel’s films work so well because they’re essentially genre films that feature superheroes.

CA: Winter Soldier is an espionage film that features superheroes. It would be an entertaining film if it was a Bond movie.

Ant-Man is a heist film featuring superheroes. It could easily be done featuring the cast of Ocean’s 11.

Guardians is a space opera featuring superheroes. It’s story (maybe not so much the second one) would fit well as a Star Trek film.

So they are good genre films that feature comic book characters. They also have a track record of putting together good stories, so even if we aren’t sure about them we give the benefit of the doubt.

Blue Marvel, though? That’s just...lackluster...and it CERTAINLY doesn’t fit with the idea that they are hinting at it being something big. Blue Marvel is not big. At all. By any stretch of the imagination. After several mentions of this engineer friend, there is very little way to see a character like Blue Marvel as anything other than a letdown.

I’m not saying he couldn’t be a good character...he probably could be...I’m just saying that the reveal of this character being Blue Marvel will be extremely disappointing to most casual fans, and many avid fans...and that would be extremely out of character for what we’ve come to expect from the team putting these stories together.
