Wand making

I think I would try the original, I would want to make it all out of wood and the new one looks like I would need a pretty close match for the handle. I would have to do some searching in a nearby wooded area to find sometime close. Maybe on Saturday I could go for a walk, I could use some fresh air and exercise!
I made two harry wands, both are the new version, 2 voldemorts, Cedric's, Krum's, Fluer's, and Sirius'.. also made two ok version's of Ron's and Moody's. I'll probably end up making a better version of Ron's and Moody's when i have time.

Any pics? I would love to see how they turned out. Any tips also?

Alright, I picked up a oak dowel from Home Depot on the way home tonight. Pulled out the carving knife and, oak is a hard wood to carve from hand! I ended up pulling the dremel out. And after doing that for a while, it is much easier to hand carve after getting through the top layer of the wood. I only got done the butt of the wand (my own design first), and hopefully tomorrow I'll be working on the handle.

oak can vary some are softer than others
also the older it gets the harder it is
i was lucky the piece i had was hard but not to hard that i couldnt
carve by hand
glad its going well so far cant wait to see pics

Hey man, this is the best pic I could find of them at the moment.. It's from when I was setting them up for a harry potter themed display.
The one on the book is Sirius', there is two behind it that are blurred those are the Ron, and Dumbledore wands. The wands resting on the book are from left to right: Moody's(from when there was really no reference pics), Harry's, and Voldemort's. I'll take a better pic with the whole collection I made after I find them because right now they are temp misplaced.. :confused

This thread has inspired me to try my hand at wand making. Armed with some Sculpey, large bamboo chopsticks and reference pics I made six wands:

From left: Voldemort, Snape, Dumbledore's Elder Wand, Harry, Hermione and Ron.

I know the paintjob's off... the ref pics I had to work with weren't that clear to begin with.

Those all look great! How hard does sculpey get? I've never worked with the stuff before.

i too have been on a bit of a wand kick....in the past few days i've made these...

top to bottom - ron's broken wand, harry's ss/cos, draco's

i've also got in the works hermione's ss/cos, lockhart's, bellatrix's, and a home-made version of lucius malfoy's wand cane...as well as a few custom designs just for the hell of it

When you guys used sculpty, you guys put the wands in the oven as a whole? I want to know so that if I did that my house wouldn't burn down.:rolleyes

"Mtbspidey -- are your wands made from paper and glue?"

nope...wood mainly...ron's is a bit of pool cue and a paintbrush handle (and of course soem scotch tape)....harry's and draco's are both wooden dowels with sculpy details

Ah! The sculpey is what made me think they were the glue / paper wands. They're very cool, and no insult was intended, I promise! :)

none taken...though i have to admit having not read the alethiometrist's thread i did think it was a slightly strange question until i clicked the link you gave to it

You should be fine putting wood in the oven with Sculpy. You only bake it at 275 degrees for 15-20 minutes most of the time.
