I got one of the kits strait from voodoo FX. They have one that you have to do all the soldering(which I have) and one that is 99% plug and play.
It's not a bad kit for folks like us who have no electrical skills. I found it fairly easy to solder.

I'm in the same boat; I have the Fine Molds Falcon and I think it would be a crime not to light it. I've been looking for good lighting kits but I have a mad idea to try to come up with something on my own. It gives you more control over what you want and it's a great learning experience. I'm currently trying to design something to light the Moebius Flying Sub (from the Seaview kit). It's a tiny model so a good place to start.

I like the look of the Voodoo FX kit but I'm not sure what way they do the engine; is that lightsheet or something?

the engines are 5 blue LED's. Mine's all put together. I've been debating on putting it in my Fm Falcon or my SMT Falcon. Both kits ran some coin so I feel I should light both. The voodooFX website has more info. They also make lighting kits for R2, c-3po, The TIE fighter and one HELL oof a lighting kit for the Polar lights Enterprise refit(a $500 light kit!) They also have a cool Kit that lights the photon torpedo tubes on the refit.

slightly ot but you mentioned the PL-E kit from Voodoo. How does it compare to Trekmodelers PL-E light kit?

I can take a pic of it lit up. It's basically a circuit board with 10 pairs of holes for the wires. You solder the wire to the LED's and then the wires to the board.

As for the enterprise kit...

Her'es the link:

I stand corrected. The Enterprise light kit is $300:

I wasn't familiar with the Polar Lights 1701A but I just looked it up - whoa, what a stunning model! I'm going to order one and probably a lighting kit too. I'm just looking at the Voodoo and Trekmodellers offerings, they both look good...

I also feel I should explain the limits of my wiring expirience.

About 3 year ago, I said the hell with it and figured I would build my SMT 1/48 y-wing. Thing was I REALLY wanted to light it. So I ordered one of VOODOO Fx's X-wing lighting kits. I also wanted to be able to remove the Y-wing from the base so after some enquiries, I bout a 6 pin plug said from a website and wired one have the plug to the inside of the y-wing and the other half to the wires on the base. I had the worst time trying this because the solder would never do what I wanted to. I offhandedly mentioned it to a buddy of mine and asked what rosin I was using? :confused

He explained the rosin is this liquid you put on the pieces you want to solder and it basically acts as a carrier for the solder. I ordered a bottle. I then sat down with a wire, and an LED. I wrapped the wire around the LED strand, brushed on a bit of rosin, and applied my solder. WOW! what an effect! the rosing flowed onto the parts perfectly!! After that, soldering was no trouble.

So when I finally sat down a few months ago to wire up my Falcon kit, I wasn't worried at all. everything is a separate pice. 10 LED's(like 5 blue, 3 white, one yellow and one red) the circuit board, wires for everything. a 9v plug and some fibre optics.

well son-of-a-gun! My light kit is here next to me in a tub and not in the basement as I thought!

Give me a bit guys and I'll upload pics to my website.

Ok, so there's 5 Blue, One yellow, one red and 5 white. 4 of the white are pretty small and one has a flat end. There's 2 on off swithes on the cicuitboard. I have one switch running the engine lights.

In retrospect, I wish I would have made the engine light wires 12" long. I was worried I wouldn't have enough wire So I made them a bit short.

Ok, they are up at my site(see link below). I also scanned the cover ov the kits' destructions.

believe me-if I'M smart enough to build this kit, you can too.

Now if I could just get off my butt and at least START on my FMMF.

Once again I stand corrected. It's FLUX not rosin.

What I have is Liquid Solder-flux by GC Electronics. a 2 fluid ounce bottle part number: 10-4202. Looks like diluted tea. smells like wax. For the life of me, I can't remember where I got it nor, aparently did I save the web page, or at least, save it where I can find it.
