    Hi Guys,
Im new to this tread but not new to the board
    Right Brack`s Buddie ?

I have made silicone moldes off of the Harrier part for the bottom of the slave 1 if any one wants castings these are
just like the injected parts (hollow) and presure cast to reduce bubbles.
These Harrier parts are used on lots of other SF models ATAT, sandcralwer ,slave 1 , Galatica
let me know if any one wants castings of them.

I did them because i didnt want to buy multiple of those bloody expencive $$$ kits!
and I wanted to eventuly do a sandsraler as well as the slave 1

Do you think you will be making a kit of the vac-ed hulls of your slave 1 available ?

    Hi Nathan!

Yes, I have worked on the Slave 1 again, finally. But I do not have a digital camera at this time. I will post pictures as soon as I have one. (later this month)

Hey everyone...have'nt seen this subject pop up in a while.Anyway....Ive been searching high and low for additional reference photos, and Ive visited pcmodeler.com a bunch of times, and I have'nt seen any Star Wars photos......only thing they have in their science fiction category is a bunch of Star Trek stuff.Do they have anything there on that web site,or is everyone getting the pics cause they know someone who works for that website or something like that?I could use more pics of the 32" Falcon if there are any available there...as well as shots of the Slave I(Love to do the ship).Actually....I originally wanted to do that one first, but I chickened out cause doing the curved hull looked far too intimidating to start on for a first time studio model.Anyways,if anyone has anything to add to looking up Star wars & getting references on pcmodeler,I'd much appreciate it,thanks-John

Hi guys. First off let me say that I know NOTHING about models. However, I would like to eventually do Slave I (as I am a HUGE Fett fan). I would like to SLOWLY begin to buy the models needed to make this. I see a list above but it isn't very detailed. Can we get a super detailed list (stating the EXACT model to buy) placed in this thread for everyone to see.

Concerning the Harrier... How much would one expect to pay for this model?

The harrier is around $85 new, but if you're patient you can find them on eBay for much less.

    hey guys,

I have allready molded the Big harrier engine core for the bottom of the slave 1 ( see past posting above )
(Im planning on also making a sand cralwer later as well)
and would be willing to mold the rest of the kit parts and make them availible to the group as long as the cost of
silicone , resin and postage for mailing the parts out was covered .
I would be willing to do the work for free
to help EVERYONE make the best Slave 1 we all can do

Any parts sent to me on this project would be returned back
to the owner the way they came to me ,UN-damaged & UN-modified.

    PS
I also have access to casting these parts in a PRO resin injector ( no hand weighing and measuring needed )
and the parts would also be pressure cast to remove bubbles.
and because they buy their resin in 50 gal drums it will be cheeper on the resin cost .

Hhhhmmm... This is NOT looking good. Even if we get all the parts, it will be all for nothing without the fuselage... I was hoping to begin picking up a piece here and a piece there but in the end, I would simply have a bunch of parts and nothing to attach them to. Doesn't look like this project can go very far without some outside intervention.

Exactly. It is Tim's choise as to whether or not he would like to provide the vacu-formed shells to the Slave 1. I have a bag of parts(not all the parts but a few) for this ship that I put together out of bordom. Unless there is someone else that can get together a main body identifying the parts is kinda useless.

I talked with Tim and he has no interest in selling copies of the fuselage at this time but he said he MIGHT consider it AFTER his Slave I was complete. With that in mind I am not going to pursue this project any further unless a fuselage is offered. No point in wasting the money on parts that may never be attached to anything. [IMG]

Making the main body of this beast is a tough one. There are enough references in the Chronicals to make the molds/patterns for it..whether or not a plug is made for a vacu form body,or a hallow fiberglass casting. The hardest challenge of all is making this thing so all the parts mate together......just have to be motivated to do it and willing to put the time&money into it.I have most of the parts needed for the kitbashing...minus a couple key ones.I cant tell if the part that shrouds around the central engine is from a model kit,or is a fabricated piece..there are'nt any good pictires of it I can find. I also cant find any picture references showing the complete&detailed underside of the Slave I instead of the partially comlpleted picture in the Chroncals book.If anyone has any ideas,or anything tom add......I love to hear'em-John

I've been tempted by this one, too. The shrouds around the main engines are the rear fender area from a Porshe 935. I haven't measured and compared yet, but it's unfortunately looking as if they're from the 1/8 Entex kit ($$$). I also discovered that the shrouds around and under the main dish are the front fender area from the same kit. The only photo I've ever seen of the completed underside is in Steve Sansweet's Star Wars Kenner action figure guide. Sadly, it's a small photo and hard to see any fine detail, but you can see how it changed as compared to the Chronicle photos. Hope this helps.

Thanks Dan,thats heaps of help for me and others as well.Actually,I am slowly acquiring that 1/8 Entex Porsche kit...it is a doozy no doubt. There is one on auction right now on ebay with a reserve price to be met and its already over $400.00,no surprise since it is a rare&sought after kit.I intend on making castings or vacu form molds of parts of that kit(& will make them available to others if they require them)....the 32" Falcon of course uses that transmission housing from it,and of course the much appreciated information from you...additional parts as well.I think I have all the kit bashing details needed...but there are always a few straglers...so in fact,I probably dont have all the parts,I'm just kidding myself.Anyways, thanks for the tip...and the only other thing I've been trying to figure out is how others are able to get Star Wars photo references from pcmodeler.com?Ive gone there numerous times and the only thing I get are picture references of Star Trek ships, and Ive seen people mention in the forum that they are getting good detailed pictures of the Slave I,Tie Fighter,Falcon...or whatever...ect,ect.Are there any pictures there,or is it you have to know someone who knows somebody who has,or can send the pictures?Maybe you can shed some light on this?Anyways, thanks a million Dan......keep up the good work-John

Hey, no problem, John! Good luck with the Porshe. If you mold parts off of it sometime and I'm still in need, count me in. Not too sure about pc modeler. For the longest time it was being redesigned and now all I can find is Star Trek reference also.

Bloody Hell................well..there's gotta be some pictures out there somewhere that someone has of the Slave I and the 32" Falcon thats better than what starship modeler can provide.Starship modeler has some good reference pics of the Falcon(no clear side, top, bottom references)nothing really solid of Slave I....and a few other vehicals.Im trying to draft up some decent plans of the falcon, and I think I'll do some for Slave I.It will be alot easier I think since there's a bit more to go on in the Chronicals book.
I'll be starting school this semester very soon,so If I can draft up the pics......& mak'em work....I'll try to sqeeze in a project in machine shop.My school has'nt a full 3 axis cnc mill..which sucks cause writing a 3d program in mastercam would be pointless for a 2 axis hybrid cnc mill(no programable Z movement).Think I'll make a series of patterns/templates...mill the basic shapes out..then fill it in with expanding urethane foam..the putty it up..ect,ect...make either vacu form molds,or a silicon RTV and make some hallow castings.Thats just a thought I have in my head......always changing&re-thinking /working plans.I should be acquiring that 1/8 porsche in a couple of months(cost me big $$$$$)....so when I get it,and make castings...I'll let the board know.Have a good one everybody-John

Has anyone else been planing on building the SlaveI,or identifying kit parts? There are a few on there that I cant make heads or tails of.I dont know if i already have the parts in the kits I bought,or if they are parts from others I have'nt identified. The only good page is in the Chronicals on pg 195-196 I believe. There are 1/24 Harrier jet parts all over the bottom..more than just the 1 rosetta stone piece.A few others I'm uncertain of.Those transmission halves.....are they from the 1/12 Tamiya JPS MKIII kit,or from a different formula I car?Also...looks like some drive shaft pieces from a truck kit that connects to the transmission pieces(dont think they are from Leopold railway gun). The other I'm really stumped on is the large looking kit part that fits over the machined aluminum shaft where the wings are fastened to...it looks rather large..possibly a rear end from a truck/car kit?The 1/8 Entex Porsche?I'm at a loss with this one..if anyone can help...please put yur $1.00's worth of insight in,I'd much appreciate any help-John

I’ll put my $1.00 worth in, John! The transmission halves are from a Ferrari 312B, if I remember correctly. You can see two of the top engine halves hiding in there too. I understand the same engine is in the 312T as well. I really need to get out the Chronicles and scan over this thing again tonight. Other than the Harrier’s main engine, I also spotted those two “walls” inside the engine compartment (parts #69 & #152). Do you see more? Still haven’t I.D.’d that part the wing axis goes through. It looks very familiar though. . .

HereÂ’s my list of kits so far. Just ask if you have any questions.

    Tamiya - 20mm Flakvierling 38 MITSd.Ah.52 anti-aircraft gun - 1/35 scale
    Tamiya - Schwerer Panzerspahwagen Sdkfz 232 (8 Rad) 8-wheeled armored vehicle - 1/35 scale
    Tamiya - German 88mm Gun Flak 36/37 - 1/35 scale
Hasegawa - Leopold German railway gun - 1/72 scale
Hasegawa - Morser Karl rail gun - 1/72 scale
Airfix (or MPC) - Hawker Harrier - 1/24 scale
Entex - Porshe Carrera RSR Turbo 935 - 1/8 scale
    Tamiya - Yardley McLaren M23 - 1/12 scale
    Tamiya - Ferrari 312B - 1/12 scale

    Thanks for the compliments.

Dan, the things the wing axis goes through are the boosters from a Space Shuttle. BUT those parts ARE NOT on the final model! They must have changed that.

What part from the McLaren M23 is used?

    Tim:

Thanks for the heads up on those shuttle boosters. I just knew they looked familiar! The round parts that cap off the ends of the wings are what I believe to be the transmission covers from the McLaren. Visually, they seem to be identical, but I haven't yet measured them for size. It could be they're from the Entex John Player Special or maybe I just want to believe they're from the Tamiya, since I already have the kit. [IMG]

Thanks Dan&Tim...that takes a little off my mind.I've been looking over the SlaveI Chronical pages this weekend.I think I have most those kits you mentioned..with the exception of the 1/8 Entex Porsche&the 1/12 Mclaren. So many kits to look for.I was certain at 1 point the transmission halves were from the 1/12 Tamiya JPS MKIII.I see more of the smaller parts on the underside of the SlaveI from that 1/24 Harrier kit...the air intakes...and I think possibly some of the smaller wing assemblies to the rear staggering one another that line the bottom. When you say booster rockets,do you mean from an airfix Saturn V,or from a large scale Revel space shuttle?I know the wings were assembled from the harrier kit(2nd thing I spotted when i got my harrier kit)looks like they used more than 1 kit to make them, lets hear it for silicone&urethane resin!making those wings will be tough...least for me.Anyways, back to the drawing board..I'll be taking a long gander at the Chronicals again....thanks again&if I find something,I'll put it up for critiquing-John

AWESOME! Tim. The Slave is really shaping up and Fett looks great also. A real pain working a figure in that scale, isn't it?

I know it was like that for me doing the TIE Pilot and that one was even smaller at 1/35 scale.

I am in amazement at your work, Tim. As Rolando said, the Fett is brilliant. As for the Maya program, any advise for someone who knows absolutely nothing about computer model-rendering? Is this the program of choice regarding 3D planning? As much as I like to think of myself as being up to speed, I truly live in the dark ages as far as this sort of thing is concerned.

WOW!Excellent work Tim!You are a true artist&craftsman of the trade...I can only hope&dream that what I make comes out half as good.Out of curiosity, are you sculpting over the 1/24 airfix Harrier pilot with A&B Epoxy putty,or are you using something else? The detail is right on....I think it looks better than the figure in the real studio model as seen in the Chronicals...keep the pictures comming Tim-John

Yes, I am using Tamiya two component epoxy to sculpt over the Harrier pilot.
Seems like the helmet will be a lot trickier than I thought it would be. The recessed "cheeks" are a pain at that scale.

The Boba is more detailed than the original one in the ILM model. While the original model was only on screen in fairly wide shots, the figure was sufficient. Since mine will be on display I chose to make the cockpit and figure more detailed.

I used Maya to model the Slave1 because that is the program I have been using at work for 4 years now. I am sure it would be possible to model the Slave 1 just as well in 3dMax or Softimage.

    Here's a little sneak-preview exclusively for board members. :)
These are the fenders and front bumper of the 1:8 scale Entex Porsche being held in place by tape.
Does anybody know if the fenders stick out of the bottom of the Slave 1? It is hard to tell from the photos I have.

Wow Tim..its look'in good!I have yet to make blue prints for the Falcon....I'm lagg'in bad.Anyway...as far as I can tell from the Photos of the Slave I in the Chronicals book...it does'nt look as though the engine shrouds(Porsche fenders) are protruding any...and are recessed.Look in your Chronicals book(I'm sure you have many times) on page 195 top photo"side view".The only parts that protrude on the bottom at all are the two rocket engines. Its difficult to see from the photos of the unfinished model..but from the unfinished state of the model on the following page.."most the guts" look to be tucked away in there....I'm guessing....but it looks to be a good inch or so.I hope I have shed some light & helped you...keep up the good work&the inspiring photos-John

1/72 Hasegawa Leopold&Karl Railway Gun kits(gun barrels&such) (2 each)20MM Flak(88MM Flak?),1/8 Entex 935 Porsche body fender parts,1/24 Airfix Harrier Jet,ya might need 2 unless you wanna cast parts, either 1/12 McLaren,or Ferrari 312B Transmission(I used to think it was1/12 JPS)Mclaren Trannie part,I think there are some 8-Rad parts on there too(plates on the body) and alot of scratch building&modifying of parts. The rest I dont know.....but this beast is the next on my to do list. These are all the kits off the top of my head....I have a list I made out....dont know where it is.

    I have a question:

Here's a photo of the original Slave 1 wings.
There are small varaiations in the two wings.

So should I build the wings with these imperfections or both of them PERFECTLY symmetrically?
(I already started building the wings, and I have made a decision, just wanted ot know what people think.

    Hey Tim,

you are in fact the one who pointed out to me the unsymmetry in props like the vader helmet and stromtrooper helmet, giving them their disctinctive looks.

Of course the detail you are asking about is not as crucial in defining the "look" of the ship, but I would always now go for a little unsymmetry.

I am curious what YOUR decision was :)

    cheers,

I think it depends how true to the subject you want to be.....but the"imperfections" are so small..most people wont even notice them.If you want a replica identical to the original ILM minature.....include the imperfections...but if ya want it dead on,balls accurate....go for the semetry.

In most cases I wouldn't hesitate to make straight lines straight and round things round, but detailing is another matter. Looks to me that these greeblies are "meant" not to match (unless some fell off or something), so I'd leave them asymmetrical. If you flipped your car over, the "greeblies" on the bottom are not going to be identical on either side, right? (Okay, the wheels should be, but the battery's only one one side, AC compressor only on one side, etc.)

Hey Tim...have you gotten around to assembling any of the kit bashed detail underneath the Slave I ?How about that radar dish?I was mucking around one night trying to determine how big it was.....I came up with a little over 5" or about 12.8cm in diamenter...that anything close to what you got?

I have all the parts for the detail underneath the Slave 1. Most of it is put together, but not inside the ship yet.
There is a photo of the radar dish on my website. Mine is 13.7 cm. The ruler in the chronicles book seems to be either distorted thru perspective or added later.
My measurements are based on the parts that are next to the dish.

Looks great Tim!Thats about the measurment I came up with.....I knew it was gonna be a big dish......where in the world did you find that wall socket cover?I dont think i can find that brand here...but then again...i have'nt gone shopping for wall socket parts lately.I love your ingenuity! Those Slave I wings look like monsters to assemble..did you use 2 Harrier kits for each one,or did you make castings? There are alot more 1/24 Harrier parts in there than it seems...aside from the wings&main engine piece..there are at least 2-3 other pairs of parts by my count from that kit...some are small..a few I'm uncertain of,but between the pictures available in the Chronicals&the parts from the kit I have....the parts look all too familiar to be mistaken for anything else.Keep up the good work Tim....I cant wait to see it a bit further down the assembly line.

Wow, Tim. This thing is looking FANTASTIC - no surprise.

As far as the symmetry issue, I would say, without a doubt, make it like the ILM model with the non-symmetric wings. Since you had the good eye to spot these details, I think you should note it in the final model. If you ask me, it just proves that you REALLY know this model.

    GREAT work, and good luck!

Very cool Tim.....out of curiosity...would you suggest buying 2 1/24 airfix Harrier kits for building the wings,or will 1 kit do the job?I cant wait till you have this one finished..it will be Spectacular,I'd even venture to say...it will look better than the ILM minature, but you have the luxuary of spending more time&not rushing........kinda nice not having any time constraints.Anyway..love the pictures..very inspiring...whats yur next project you are gonna tackle after the Slave I,or are you gonna cool off a bit for a while?
