v312's builds

Ohhhhh ****, nevermind lol sorry guys

Pictures are tricky sometimes, it’s been some time before I disassembled one, I did also have one of the double stacks I should remember

Ah, ok if we are talking about his greeblie on the side:

I suggested that it might be the piece from the switch, but I was not sure about it at all.

A more critical look makes me think that most likey it isn't that piece from the switch as it looks too small.

Here's the switch part and a graflex contact next to it for comparison:

I think the graflex piece looks much closer to what we see on the screenshot, so it can be like a contact from a smaller switch or a ground lug like thd9791 suggested

Greedo's Blaster (DT-12)

1721986038121.png

I started this build long time ago together with the Jawa blaster that I've posted about already as they are very similar. But for Greedo's I wanted to only use real vintage greeblies so it took me a while to find enough of them to finish the build.

I started with this picture to figure out the ruger parts and the modifications needed:

1721980220963.png

Now I've already forgotten if this is the late or the early variant of the Mk1, but either way I found the correct lower and then few other parts as the bolt, rear sight a silver magazine piece like the one in the picture and a barrel. I used the upper from the airsoft replica of the Ruger. It needed some work to fit the real bolt and some of the internal parts but ultimately fittet suprisingly well with the lower. I trimmed it on the front side a little to match the modification on the picture.
I'm still not sure what is going on there but i think this first step is a spacer that from the back side is screwed where the original barrel will go and on the front side is made to accept whatever barrel they used. Then I guess that weird looking metal extension was removed from the front of the barrel and other parts were added to make the Greedo and Jawa blasters.
I used the original Ruger barrel, as it has this kind of step, however it is not that thick so I added a small metal spacer of the same diameter behind it. If course I had also to cut the barrel somewhere to the length I thought it looks correct for the DT-12.

Most of the greeblies were identified long time ago so it was a matter of finding them.

So from the Tomtit kit - one "Cylinder" one "pontoon" and 2 "antenna greeblies.
For the small cylinder on the top between the 2 "antennas" I used some tube from the V8 kit and I don't know if that was what they really used, but it's size was perfect for the job.

Turntable Parts:

1722019476549.png

- 2x 50hz pulleys - they are mostly visible on the Jawa blaster references, but there are a couple of pictures where it is confirmed to be the same on Greedo's:
1721981693033.png

-2x small brushes :
1721981828972.png

-2x Tonearm tips:

1721981963551.png

there are some variations , I used the first 2 identical that I could find, although they may not be the exact variations used on the real prop.

-2x cones from the big brush. There are 2 variations that exist apparently - simple cone:
1721982117711.png

and cone with knurling:
1721982321808.png

This is probably the best reference I could find for it :
1721982473844.png

And I can't tell if it has knurling or not . Given the fact that I was not able to find any with knurling I bet it is the one they used. If you have one for sale - please let me know!

Also I used 2 for symetry , but the real prop does not have one on the other side, hard to tell if it fell off or they never used one for this prop:

-1x Unisweep brush piece:

UG-175 Reducers. These are what the community uses for the greeblie inside the Tomtit "ponton" and they work damn well for the purpose. I can only be grateful to whoever came up with them as I could not have guessed that from the pictures I've seen.
Although I have to admint that I can't say this is 100% sure thing that the greeblie is 2x UG-175 reducers glued together. Somehow they look little off to me, and there are tons of similar adapter and reducers just for coaxial cables alone. If someone has a clear reference of this please let me know.

Here are the best reference pictures I could find:

1721983568693.png

1721983681131.png

Where the greeblie somehow looks to me recessed in the middle unlike the reducers where in the middle is the largest diameter.

And this one, on which I based my build:
1721983819420.png

1721983899550.png

Here it looks to me like there are black rings over he ends - kind of look too thick to be just pant, but quality of the pictures is not great so who knows. I used some plastic pieces from some other type of connector that I slipped over the UGs to get a look similar to the picture above.
I like how the result compares to it, but I'm still open to the posibillity that it is just black paint all over the UGs (however ,then I have the same problem that the threads on the UGs and the center part where they are glued together, don's seem to stick out as much as they should be if it is just a paint).

The dome on the back of the bolt:

1721984203056.png

I used some metal dome that was probably meant as a decorative element on a bag or some belt or something like that.

Below the dome there are two small pieces that I wasn't able to identify. The Ruger does not have anything there it is just smooth surface. They also don't really look like greeblies that someone will put intentionally - too small to expect to be visible in a movie and don't really contribute much to the overall design of the prop. As the prop was likely a casting it is possible that these are some sort of casting artefacts. I didn't noticed them in the movie. I've tried to add some pieces there, but it didn't look good at all, and as I didn't seem in the movie either - I decided to remove them.

Unfortunately not much is visible from the other side of the blaster - it is visible for quite some time in the movie but I could not pick much details from it. The BTS photos I could find are not much better.

As far as I can tell there is a rectangular flat piece (maybe it was a base for another Tomtit "ponton" greeblie that fell off?) and maybe at least another small dome-like greeblie (although it could be just some sort of a ding looking like a greeblie because of a highlight):

1721982871939.png

I used a vintage transistor as a little dome there.

I took some creative freedom and tried to shape it similar to how it looks here:

1721985501532.png

although I still think it is rectangular, just the upper corner is catching light that makes it look like there's some sort of rounded extension.
I guess this image is how I have it memorized and it didn't quite look right to me when I initially made it a simple rectangle.

Another thing to note here is that it seems they removed the magazine when making the prop. I of course kept it on my build as it does not look at all that good without it (but it is removeable of course).

The logo on the grip is little bit distracting and I initially wanted to change the grip wirh one without a logo like I did on the Jawa blaster. But as worked on the blaster I gut used to it and I think it fits well with the metal on the trigger , magazine and the UG reducers so I left it with the original grip.

That's a really nice build. I was just looking into what it would take to start one of these. A+ work!

Here's one cute little prop from ESB.

Most of the parts were clearly from the V8 kit and for the rest I used the closest looking found parts that I've come across.
Some are not perfect, but I wanted a "found parts only" build. I think it turned out looking pretty nice and convicing.

It is quite heavy for what it is though, so it won't be very convinient to wear it attached on caps like they do in the movie. I guess the castings that they using are significantly lighter.

My new Fridge Magnet

1740908086337.png

It's a little bit of a stretch to call this one a "build" since it is mostly dissasembly, but here's my take on the AHN droid restraining bolt.

There are several different lenses that share the same part that is the restraining bolt's main body. The other parts are different and I'm not sure which one is the correct model. I assume it has been identified, but I didn't dig thorugh the forum to find out as I was going to use the one I have anyway.

I was thinking of replicating the R2D2 bolt as it is more significant to the story:

1740909474276.png
1740909527762.png
1740910606391.png

but there are much better shots of C3P0's bolt, and as far as I can tell the construction on both is identical. Here are some of the captures I used as references:

1740909933450.png
1740909331774.png
1740910014150.png
1740910220383.png
1740910278460.png
1740910389028.png
1740910536107.png
1740910785085.png

My lens didn't match the details I can see on the top side of the bolt. What I see is there is a small step-down on the inside of the body , visible for example here:
1740911042353.png
. Then is a platform with a smaller diameter that has a ring aroud the edge, the ring is probably arond 3-4mm tall and about 1.5-2mm thick. Then in the center of that is another smaller concentric ring. Inside the center ring is something that looks like a shiny shaft collar (a black spot that looks like a set screw hole can be seen in some references) and on top of it a smaller shiny disc that has a reflection patter similar to the one on the clamp lever and beertab rives on the Inc. Graflexes.

So I did some cutting and re-arranging of the internal parts of the lens to match what i see. I ended up with 3 parts that screw into each other so the relative height to each other can be adjusted to some extend. To match exactly what I'm seeing I should probably shave about 2mm from the center ring and remove the shims that I currently have under the shaft collar (then move everything up 2mm to compensate). But that's the only part that I didn't have to modify so far (except the outer shell) so I decided to leave it as it is for now.

Once I was done with the lens parts I went to the hardware store to see what parts can I find for the "shaft collar" and the "shiny disc". Combined with a couple of pieces that I already had I started checknig combinations to see what is the best match.
1740912487936.png
1740912588005.png

The Michell piece is a good match in size , but It as a small screw on top that does not match the references, and to use it flipped over it will need some modification, so I ruled it out.

1740912727397.png
1740912790141.png

This collar has 2 set screw holes at an angle. I picked it up because on some references it looks like there are 2 holes at an angle on the prop part
1740913016149.png
1740913141839.png

However, It's little too big and not shiny so I ruled it out too.

The remaining shafts were 3 sizes and the middle one looks like the best match:
1740913496356.png
1740913528815.png
1740913964859.png

The smallest size still looks close:
1740913756362.png
1740910278460.png

The largest fits almost without a gap, so it is least accurate in size, but it's the one I like the most:
1740914170219.png

I could not find a good picture of how the restraining bolts are supposed to look on the other side, so I just put a magnet and covered it with a tiny aluminum disc:
1740914390421.png

I think even if not accurate it is at least consistent with the rest of the design.

Great investigative and orthographic work! Good eye on those holes on the sides of the central thing. Your magnet looks great
