USS SULACO by mirektuner / Jan Rükr / 1:320 Tuning

Hi there!

Really awe inspiring work. On of the largest papermodels I have ever seen.

But ... will Jan commence working on the missing parts anytime soon in the future?

I'd hate to start working on a model like this and then not be able to finish it ...

sulaco will be completed to 100%

Thanks for making this available :) This is Fantastic! I'm really looking forward to building this (y)thumbsup:thumbsup

I'm a sucker for big displays & although this builds into a fairly big model I'm still thinking about printing this at 1.5 times the size. I have 4 potential walls it would fit very well at 2.6 meters long.

What paper thickness would people recommend for this build at 1.5 times the size? Also I'm thinking plasticard or something thats moisture resistant & can be glued easily :) I've never dabbled in paper craft before :$

Thanks

Why all this loving care and attention to detail for a PAPER model? I mean, don't get me wrong, I LOVE your work. It's really good. I just wish it was being made in something more durable... I'd love to see your model last a lifetime, you know what I mean?

First, Excellent build I have been considering doing a build the same way once he completes the model though I have also been toying with scratch building the Nostromo. Are you planning on painting it when you are done?

I find that 110pd cardstock works well and it seems to be very common amongst other cardmodelers. If you are worried about moisture you can always clear coat. You just need to mist it on lightly first and let that dry before you do a heavier coat. Otherwise, you risk sagging of larger areas. Obviously building at a smaller scale will reduce that risk and you should practice first.

I have been scratch building from paper for years and durability has never been an issue. In all reality any situation that would damage a paper model would likely damage a plastic model as well. However papers lighter weight tends to make it less likely to break due to falls and bumps. Plus paper is cheaper, faster, and requires less tools to build with than other mediums.

Okay. That all makes sense. But what about warping? Wouldn't the paper tend to lose its integrity over time? Perhaps even become brittle? Or the ink fade? Anyway, those concerns aside, I'm a big fan of the Sulaco design and I love your work here. The size is awesome! Can't wait to see it finished.

Maybe as you do the build it is possible to fab a pvc support for the inside. It's paper so I don't see an issue cutting hols to slide pieces through. Plus adding a sealant to it will make it stiffer and like most of my props they see very little sunlight.

I was going to print this on my home printer but my buddy owns a printing business and can produce better quality so I will have home print me up about 3 of these. One to build then the 2nd to cut out detail pieces and a 3rd..no telling. I was thinking of cutting sintra and adding the detail pieces to that then attaching it to the main model

Sulaco model is printed in laser printing for kopicentru 26kč 1 sheet A3

The model will be a great Sulaco about 2m 20 cm

Would you consider printing these before hand and selling them as a kit
of pre-printed sheets?

I'd love to try one but I doubt I have the printer needed to print something
like this. What size paper does this print on 8 1/2" x 11" or larger?

Nice job so far too. I am enjoying this thread!
