I am looking forward to the pics, Sir. Also when you do get it (I know you're going to get it) I have a suggestion, possibly once a year you do a film festival as you stated earlier of local ie: Texas filmmakers. My kids and I are making some short films and I'd love to actually be able to see them and my kids on a large screen.

So, it all came down to two things -
1. Can I live in this joint.
I was notified by the Houston zoning board (or something like that) that it may not be used as a residence - turns out, it can - so cleared that hurdle about a month ago.
2. Not too long from now, I am moving to Japan to live there for a year or two, so why buy something that I have no use for in the near future.
One of my best friends jumped in and said he'd love to go in on the purchase with me - not to live in the theatre but, he actually believes he can use his contacts, both business and personal, to get the thing put back to her old glory. He wants to have premieres there, big and small, along with Q&A sessions and such - granted this is way down the road. People will be working on the old girl the entire time I'm in Japan.
I've been speaking with the owner and last Wed wrote him a check - now we're just waiting for everything to go through.
I'm a little bummed because I found out there used to be a an indoor pool in the building right behind it - you could have literally knocked down two brick walls and had access to to. It was left behind from the old YMCA that was once there, but the pool was gutted out 5 months before I even knew about the place. The man I'm buying the theatre from owned it too. DAMN!
Should have word in a few days. I'd post pics, but i don't want it to seem like I'm gloating or showing off my good fortune - i was notified recently that my time here is spent doing nothing but that, so I must work on myself as to not offend.

Of course I'm showing the pics as soon as I get to the theatre in the daytime to take some - or get the electricity turned on. I've been working on buying it really - back and fourth with the developers of that particular part of downtown, giving plans as to what I am planning on doing - signing paper after paper assuring them I am not turning it into a porno theatre - no joke. So I haven't had time to get down to the actual place - mostly ben standing in lines filing this and that. I'm SO JAZZED.
Anyhow - two really good friends have already donated two prints to me to show - Raiders and African Queen - sounds like a double feature to me.!!!

WHEW! Don't scare us like that! I seriously wanna see a complete walk-through for this thing, if you have the time. (Deco theatres are one of my obsessions - I used to have this recurring 'architectural' dream where I was lost in some huge structure, like an immense Victorian railway station, or a huge, rambling Deco theatre - very often that one.)
I'd almost commit murder to be in your shoes - great score and congratulations!

i live in wellington, New Zealand (yes home of Weta and Peter Jackson) and the local old art deco theater in the main entertainment center was still being used but was in need of a fixup .. slowly getting more rundown and needed earthquke strengthening too .. Peter Jackson and his movie mates did it up back to original or as close as to it as able .. and it looks fantastic !!! search google images for "embassy theater, Wellington, New Zealand" and take alook at what can be done .. its where the LoTR premiere was held in New Zealand .. even better they have a jazz bar upstairs
