UK bans the import of *anything remotely harmful*...

Re: UK bans the import of replica props...

The crime figures will rise now though simply because there is new legislation new laws = new crimes.
Same as gun crime figures rose 4 fold in the 2 years following the ban on handguns.
Most of the new crimes being possesion charges rather than actual criminal usage of weapons.

Re: UK bans the import of replica props...

So... write a few pages of script... do some storyboards. Borrow a camcorder... or any digital camera.. heck... use your cell phone to make an arty-farty montage film about scifi guns!

Or... get yourself a white backdrop (cardboard will do) and take some photos of the props. Use MS word to put together some (horribly coded) web pages and make your gallery online. A .com costs like 10 bucks a year to keep. There are ways around just about every law made by man as long as you put some effort into it. It all comes down to what the hobby is worth to each individual I guess.

If it were me, I'd be working 24/7 to make sure I could go on collecting. I'd be contacting people and newspapers left and right, raising up a crapstorm like no other. Hell, I'd resort to calling MPs at home if need be. No freakin' politician would keep me from buying whatever raygun my law-abiding butt wants.

I hope people start putting this silly law to the test... importing cheap resin kits and castings of scifi weapons. If they got confiscated or if the person doing the importing got in trouble with the law... what scandal-hungry newsrag could resist printing "Man Arrested For Importing Star Wars Toy Raygun!"?

The fan film is shaky at best (unless you're actually making a fan film); the gallery defense doesn't apply to displays in the home.

As far as I've read and understood...

Re: UK bans the import of replica props...

I think it's ok with kits. As long as the gun isn't built up ie. sidkit.

Re: UK bans the import of replica props...

but as soon as you build it...

Re: UK bans the import of replica props...

Government figures on the BBC news last week showed that gun crime is down again this year on last year although death and injury from firearms have risen by 4 fold i guess concentrating on replicas instead of real weapons which can actually cause harm is the exact right thing to do then...NOT

Re: UK bans the import of replica props...

It will all boil down to what would get you shot.

If you pointed it at an armed police officer, would they shoot you? If yes, then it'll come under the ban.

So the message is, don't point anything at a police officer unless you want to get shot. Seems like common sense to me. Oh, wait. I keep forgetting that people all over seem to feel the need to pass laws to make up for people's lack of common sense. I feel sorry for you guys. What a load of, ....

P.S. Just to be clear, can you still own a real gun in the UK?

The message is, don't buy replica firearms. But real ones are fine.

No. In fact our Olympic shooting team have to travel abroad in order to practice. :rolleyes I'm surprised our armed forces are still allowed them quite frankly.

Meanwhile, you can still legally buy 'deactivated', real firearms, air rifles, crossbows, knives, table legs etc.

It's a crock o' ****. And we will find workarounds...

Re: UK bans the import of replica props...

THAT'S THE SPIRIT! :thumbsup

I've always been thinkin' of moving to England for a while, but not if I can't take my props with me.

It's a crock o' ****. And we will find workarounds...

Re: UK bans the import of replica props...

Don't they have hunting in the UK? Like fox hunts and all that rot? Or bird hunting?? Do you use slings?

Yes, if you're royalty, nobleman, or have like 2,000 acres of private land.

Heck if you have any land at all you could get a gun license. Your justification would be you'd need it to protect yourself from wild animals, and ward off trespassers.

Re: UK bans the import of replica props...

Fox hunting's illegal(supposedly)and they never used guns anyway as for owning guns well it isn't made easy there's a tonne of red tape to get a licence then a whole other issue where and how you can use it.
Basically its so much hassle and so expensive that it really is mostly toffs blowing pheasants out of the sky or farmers shooting anything that isn't tagged.
Handguns were outlawed completely years ago after a massacre in a school in Scotland.

Re: UK bans the import of replica props...

Crossbows are still legal to buy/sell/import/own. I have one.

It's illegal to hunt with them, though.

Re: UK bans the import of replica props...

But if your replica is disasembled into a 'kit' before shipping, then its legal to import? Or if its sprayed orange or green?

Looking at local toy shops it's clear that black toy guns are disappearing fast to be replaced with exactly the same size and shape guns but coloured orange, purple etc....

That seems to be the workaround toy makers are using, any replica guns I supply after the UK law comes into effect will be cast in beautiful orange coloured resin - it's the only way to be sure...
