UC Orcrist: "It is here."

Dwarf size or human size, the UC version looks disproportional for sure - the handle is too big while the blade is too small. Just for comparison purposes, take a look on the Noble version. It looks spot-on to me, so I am definitely going to buy the Noble one. It hurts me because my whole collection is from UC.

Here's another pic from the Hobbit swords thread from DarthWhitey

I think the blade length looks fine, and UC has always done human size on all there weapons so they look in scale with the entire collection.

Thanks for the pic, AT LAST the good one (I see it comes from the ucforums, so I will check it for more). I must admit, it looks much better now and I will have to think it over again. Anyways, I found a very similar pic of the Noble version (better quality than previous one) that might be handy for others interested in buying this sword. Right now I am undecided between them.

Yeah, I like mine. It seems to be the same fit and finish of Glamdring and Anduril.

I'm bummed to hear about the possible size issue. I'll look into the Noble version too, but I'd kinda prefer to keep them all from UC.

It's a really nice addition to my collection. I'm not to keen on all the resin offerings.

Interesting reactions based on what people think it is supposed to look like.

FYI, the UC blade is exactly proportional to the handle, and exactly matches the patterns of the film scale Weta prop I used to create the 2D and 3D CAD used to build it. And the larger actor scale prop matches the film scale prop shape and proportions to the T, if anyone is wondering.

Side-by-side the UC and Weta are about 98% the same in shape. Regarding the grip being all wrong, the UC sword grip was actually created from a 3D laser scan of the prop. The shape and every detail is the same, even the bow to one side (it's not symmetrical). The coloring is pretty damn close too, although if you watch the film carefully you will see the grip is darker in some scenes and lighter in others. We were told this was happening on set as the grip was handled (the prop grip is painted hard rubber), but in general, the color in the film is consistent with the prop, and that is what we copied.

Thanks a lot for the explanation Kit. I was worried because all my swords and axes are from UC and I love them. BTW, are the runes on the blade and the cross-guard blueish or my eyes just deceive me? It would be great since the movie prop is blueish and it looks pretty cool in my opinion.

These are my photos of the final pre production sample, posted a few months ago here in another thread.

Certainly from the extra photos that were added, it doesn't look as stumpy as the photos in the OP.

In my opinion though, the proportions still look wrong, however I did state that that is down to the way I personally see it.

Obviously I just don't feel the same about it's design as whoever had the reins over it at Weta

Yep, the initial photos in this topic were horrifying, but right now it looks fine with me. Kit's photos are convincing enough.:popcorn What about the blueish runes?

They are tinted blue. That's actually the reason Orcrist did not ship in December as originally planned. The tint still was not looking right to us, so we spent some extra time with the factory trying to get it to match the prop. There are only a few scenes in the film where you can actually see the color, but worth the delay IMO. This is what we ended up with.

Weta's Master Swordsmith version looks pretty close to the prop we have, although the blue color looks to be a slightly different shade here, but this gives an idea of what the blue on the hero prop looked like.

It looks very nice (especially on the blade) and close to the movie prop. I only hope that the technology behind this is solid and the color long lasting and it will not fade away in time. Thanks again for the explanation.

The pics on the first post of this thread were crassly taken against a red backdrop which overwhelms the focal area of the sword. I trust Kit and UC that this sword looks like it does in the film and his extra pics posted here will be more convincing!

I will pick one of these up when the scabbard is released!

Well, the 'technology' is an enamel paint wash, same as the prop. It's a colorfast enamel, but if the sword sits in sunlight for several years, I'm sure it will start to fade. The whole metal guard is sealed under a clear coat, the same as all of the other United LOTR and Hobbit hilt parts.

Uh, no. They weren't.
"Crassly taken"?

Unreal. People beg for pics and then become photo critics.

I for one will never post pics on this forum again.
