True Blood - is nobody watching?

I watched the first two seasons with pleasure- loved the camp and cheese. Started watching season 3 and quit after 3 episodes.

I have been a loyal TB fan but that season finale blew. The episode before was more of a season finale than that crap they gave us. This season was all over the place and really didn't draw me is like the rest. I laughed but there was never a moment that I was on the edge of my seat.

Watching the season finale I was expecting a setup of possibly seeing zombies next season. Oh well. My overall impression is MEH

I wasn't crazy about this season or the last, but still watched every episode. The more people they add with special powers the less special it feels. I really liked it went it was much simpler w/ just vampires and werewolves/shifters. And I think I may have stopped watching if Jason became werepanther.

Anyone else think next season will be about ghosts? Each finale introduced the next "special" thing/person/character - and this once was dominated by ghosts/spirits, culminating in you know who's husband coming back. Why don't they focus on fleshing out more of what's already going on, whatever happened to the fairies storyline we started the season with?

I still stand by the fact they need to strip it back to just vampire politics, and the occasional shifter thing.

It seemed like they were under pressure to dump the fairy plotline ASAP after grooming it for a full season treatment and getting bad feedback from the episodes they'd already shot. I'm glad they dumped it, but it seemed rushed.

Toddler Eric was really uncomfortable to watch, especially in the sex scenes. I could've enjoyed the vampire politics parts if not for that, or the painful reminders that the source material for the series is a goofy Mary Sue fantasy. I must confess that they convinced me to tune back in next season with the whole Newlin-Edgington thing, though.

I liked the Sam parts. I also liked the Lafayette and ***** story, despite all the dude-on-dude PDA and the fact that they were welded onto the main story arc with a character that made absolutely no sense. Props to Fiona shaw for trying so hard to polish that turd.

Like I said, I'll be back next season because they dragged Newlin and Edgington out of the coffin. That also suggests that Nan Flannigan was pushed aside to make room for more involvement in the story by the vampire chain of command, rather than that part of the story being snipped off. Still, I think it would've been a much stronger series if they had left Sookie stranded in fairyland and never mentioned either of them ever again.

I'm do done with the Sookie Bill/Eric love story. Move the eff on will ya? I can deal if she gets in the sack with Alcide, but enough of the vamp love story.

It'll be interesting to see where they take Lafayette next season. I hope he doesn't loose his edgy drag queen persona.

Aside from a small interest in Sam's character, I could really care less about the rest of the cast. They haven't been developed enough to make me care enough about them or they chase their tale doing the same thing over and over that they've become boring.

I'll watch it because I like it enough to continue to do so, but I hope they revive some of the umph it's lost real quick.

That's about where I am. Part of me is kinda glad Tara's dead because it at least means that one way or another, several characters will be forced to evolve. The rest of 'em, though...I dunno. They're pretty bland.

Jason? Still a knucklehead and all the crap that happens to him just washes off like water from a duck's back.

Andy? Don't care. He's on V, he's not on V, whatever. Andy's the "comic relief" and I'm about tired of it.

The hints at what might happen with Terry are sorta interesting, but Arlene's still kind of a flake, so I'm a bit bored with that.

Sam at least has some potential, but I could easily see him backslide. The stuff with Tommy was interesting, sorta, but got tiring. I'm glad they knocked Tommy off.

The werewolf and vamp politics are interesting, and I'd like to see more of that. But the faery stuff I don't really give a crap about. Although it seems we'll see more of that with Andy next season. Yawn.

Witches I'm done with. Fiona Shaw did a terrific job with some pretty weak material...but it's still weak material.

And the love triangle....good lord...MOVE ON. It's boring. Maybe they don't move on in the books, but seriously, enough already. I just don't care.

My biggest gripe with shows like this is the whole "characters keep chasing their tails/treading water" thing. you think a story's going somewhere, and then, bam. You realize you're actually just on some gerbil wheel and are pretty much right back where you started at the beginning of the season. I've had similar complaints about Dexter for a few seasons now.

I dunno. I guess the writers must be under a lot of pressure to fill space, like I said. Otherwise, I just cannot for the life of me see the effing point in half the subplots they throw out and then ignore (like were-panthers).

Anyone else think Jessica looked yummy last night in the red riding hood getup?

I absolutely adore Jessica. The actress is SO beautiful and she does an awesome job with the material she's given.

Also true.

I will say this: the acting is NOT the weak link on that show. I think all of the actors on that show are immensely talented. But there is, sadly, only so far you can go with weak material. I think that, currently, it's the writing that is the really weak part, and specifically the structuring and plotting. Well, that and Sookie's character in general. She's really really annoying a fair amount of the time.

I agree! The actors are top notch and are what really make watching the show palatable. The writers occasionally toss in a one liner that has me in stitches, but on the whole, they do a much better job given the talent they have to work with.

Anyone been keeping up on the new season? Just finished Episode 6, really good season so far I think. I'm amazed I'm still watching this show, it's so lame sometimes yet I find myself hooked.

Yeah, so far this is probably my favorite season. I like that:

1.) We're getting a LOT more of the political stuff for the vamps and weres.

2.) Sookie seems a lot less annoying this season.

3.) Sookie isn't the center of attention.

To be clear, Sookie is my LEAST favorite character on the show. I can't stand her and how bloody wonderful everyone thinks the is. When the first episode opened and Bill and Eric suddenly got her "distress call," then ignored it, I was saying to myself "FINALLY."

Aside from the side story with Terry that I don't care for I like how this season is unfolding. I'm glad they brought Russel back. The story needed credible villain and Russell is definitely your man when it comes to filling that role.
