Jet, those jackets certainly look like a solid inspiration, but I'm starting to think this was a completely custom jacket. Primarily as those and other military jackets are thick, made out of a wool type of fabric
you may be right - but I just can't see Disney making a custom jacket and possibly two spares for the limited amount of time this piece of wardrobe was going to be seen onscreen. Adding to the fact that the budget for this film was being itemized toward the computer stuff. Heck, even the Tron helmets, discs and pads were all off the shelf items. For them to be looking at a budget list at everything they need for the film and come down to "Flynns Jacket" screen time: 4 minutes- (3 at minimum will need to be made) - $2000.00 --
that reads all wrong to me.
I 100% agree with you that those military jackets are wayy too thick, but (you may or may not remember) in the 80's military was in - parachute pants, desert boots, camouflage, and bomber jackets - so this cut was probably taken and made into the base jacket and sold at Chess King or Merry Go Round or something like that. I personally believe it to be off the shelf - but enhanced.
