TriGun/Vash revolver, machined aluminum

Thought I'd share some pics of this after I posted my Sandman pistol.
She's heavy! The action opens, I machined 6 rounds from 1/2" aluminum barstock to fit in the cylinder. I got so into the project, that I didn't realize that I had the grip toooo short for my hand...Doh!!
I will probably go back and add an extra piece to the butt to lengthen it more. The grips are 1/4" pvc painted black. The gun's not accurate, but it's close. The barrel is 2 pieces of 1" x 1 1/2" aluminum bolted and machined together to get the shape. Its all solid. I didn't drill the barrel all the way thru, cuz I really didn't feel like trying to work that into my lunch hour. These were done over a lot of lunch periods at work. During my regular machining gig, I'd make my own stuff when I got the chance.
Now I don't get to machine hardly at all....that part of the company went out of state, and I got to stay at same place but different product line. But, now I have my own machines at home..hee hee, so I am now Da Boss!!

Spike, agreed, but at the time, all I had was an enlarged, grainy xerox picture of a plastic kit to go by. I didn't have access to the wealth of info that is readily available now...wish I did, but hey, that's what I got.
I wasn't even sure of the size of the pistol, given that its from an anime, so I did'nt have any hard dimensions on it to use as a reference....this was done around early nineties, with very limited resources...so I guessed.

Looks pretty nice on my gun wall, though!! lol

I dig it :)

Been watching Trigun on netflix streaming lately. That's gotta be the first metal version of it I have seen, and it's pretty badass.

How long did it take you to make?

Chris

Hey thanks Chris and Dorian! Chris, I'd have to say that took around a month or more of lunches at work. I'd weasel in as much time as I could, and then a bit here and there between jobs once my regular work was done.
Like I mentioned this was in the '90s, so its been a while. But it was about that long.

I like it too. It's a nice variant model. Man, I'd love to see you tackle a more accurate model though. I'm working on an old kit from "generation x props" or something. It's an old recast of a posieden kit purchased long before I knew what recasting even was.

Everybody's right.
Completely innacurate.
Drop me a line if you want to sell it.

I actually have a picture of that kit from when they still had a website, obscenely overpriced (350$ I think) for a solid-cast kit though.

Here's an old video I have from the airsoft conversion that Poseidon used to offer, for the Manga-style Vash Revolver.

I would definitely spend some more time in the planning stage before going back at this, as there's alot to correct. It would be nice to see someone do an accurate version in metal, since SidKit's metal vash gun was cast from the Vice Alpha version and it's not accurate at all.

Here's some refs for you from the Artbook.

I'll do you one better and give you my .ai file for this if you want:

I made my own vash gun out of pvc sheet and metal bits a while ago. 15 inches long, and as accurate as I could get it with the reference material I've been gathering since 2003. I'd be happy to provide some links to more reference material and other builds if you want more pics.

It's currently sitting in a mold box waiting for me to have time to actually make some good 2 part molds. :/

Anyway, great job on machining your own Vash gun! I would totally be doing that right now if I had the tools. I can't imagine how much fun that must have been! Are you going to keep messing with that one, or machine another gun from scratch?

Yours is very close, it looks like you blended some details from the Poseidon kit and the refrence drawings. Scale is really odd though, espically the frame and cylinder. Some details like the grip shape could use work too.

I did a render of the manga-style gun, always wanted to get one of those airsoft kits but they're even rarer than the anime version.

I believe you may mean late 90's or early 2000's. Trigun didn't air on Japan TV until 1998 and it didn't come out on US TV until about 2003 even though it was released on dvd in 2000. The original comic didn't even come out until 1995. Just FYI.

I like your version, Mr. redcolbalt60, regardless of inaccuracies. My personal favorite build up was the Trigun Maximum airsoft kit that Poseidon produced. I was fortunate enough to have built two so far, I hope one day to build a third since I learned so much from the other 2.

Yes, Gen Propz gun was about $350 for a solid cast. The guy that ran that site is actually a member here; pretty awesome guy.

Thanks all for the replies. Hypercats...Thanks for the .ai file!! That is a clean pic, I like that one, I like it very much. Glad you posted that, if I do another one...don't know I have about 8 different smaller projects in various stages, I would use that .ai file of yours, as the reference...I like that version.
Great job on yours, Hypercats, that would look shiny either all painted up, or cast...nice job! Thanks for the kind words...as for that one, I'm probaly done with it, but like I said, I may make the extension to the pistol butt.

Ryu...your right, it's been awhile since I worked on that project....marriage, kids, 25 years now on the same job....brain gets kinda dusty, thanks for the correction.

Thanks again all,
Mike

The Poseidon kit is great, awesome signature. I have a second-generation cast of the Poseidon but i'd still love to get an original some day.

Cool looking costume too.

Oh wow, man. It has been a while. I'm glad to hear you still have it. You were one of the seven Poseidon Trigun anime guns I built back then. I wonder how well I could put one together now.

Probably not well, at all. :lol

Sometimes, I miss those days. Getting stuff like Poseidon guns among other things was SO much easier.

Everybody's got a favorite "version" of Vash's gun! :D If we're going to turn this into a Vash Gun research thread, here's some of my favorites:

You PipBoy build was excellent so i've been wondering how your illustrator file ended up being so different from the version seen in the show. Did you take liberties?

I've always been partial to the manga gun since it was built as a conversion kit.

The version seen in the show? I'm sorry, I don't quite follow, I just posted 3 screenshots from the show. I don't think very many liberties were taken, there were a couple details I forgot to add :p, but overall:

Maybe Poseidon got to take "creative liberties". Which version/model/artist's sketch/show are you comparing my templates to?
