Unlimited Run TridCloudwalker's Anakin AotC Lightsaber Run! NOW SHIPPING

Re: TridCloudwalker's Anakin AotC Lightsaber Run!

I'm heading to the shop on Thursday to take some progress pics. I'm hoping to have these done by the end of the year too. I dunno if that's gonna happen. It all depends on the machinist. He thinks he can have them done by then, but I've found that you should always double whatever time a machinist gives you. I don't know why that is, but every run I've seen done on this board that has involved machining, has always taken longer than expected. I'm still waiting for the second run of E-11 Cylinders to start that were supposed to have been started almost a year ago. :lol No offense meant, I know he's a busy man, getting hired to do some big jobs.

And that's kind of the boat I'm in. My machinist works on the sabers after business hours and gives us a huge discount. But sometimes that means delays. I apologize to everyone. But as everyone who was in on the last run knows, I do deliver, and it's a high quality piece.

New pics in a few days. I promise.

Excited to see those new pics!! :love

Re: TridCloudwalker's Anakin AotC Lightsaber Run!

There's nothing all that interesting to see right now. but I do have some new pics. At this point, all the cores have been machined down to their proper outer diameters and the outer bodies have their inner diameters done and half of their outer diameters. Next the grooves and channels will be cut in the next day or two, and the shrouds will be started! I'm really looking forward to seeing those.

The shrouds and the hollow inner core had to get complete blueprint reworks due to an unforeseen engineering problem. It may look great on paper, but sometimes the machines just can do what you need them to. Luckily, it was all internal stuff, so none of the screen accuracy will be affected. It just caused a huge delay. Well, it was part of the delay. The machinist and I have been working on the blueprint problems together, and he hired someone to keep working on the pieces that were okay, so the job wouldn't be interrupted. Unfortunately, he got very sick, went to the hospital, and found out he has Leukemia (the help, not the machinist). I just found out about this today. I had no idea the sabers hadn't really been touched in a week. More help is on the way though, and he says by this Wednesday or Thursday I can stop by and take some completed body and started shroud pics. :)

Here are some shots:

All the saber bodies filled with their solid cores (hollow cores will start being made after the shrouds are done):

Perfect fit. Slides in with a satisfying hiss and snap:

The business end (still needs the emitter hole drilled into it):

Re: TridCloudwalker's Anakin AotC Lightsaber Run!

Unfortunately, no. More damn delays. He swears he'll have significant progress for me to take pictures of on Thursday. *fingers crossed*

I'm not the least bit worried that these won't get finished, but my patience is getting real thin with the hold ups. My apologies to everyone. Please bear with me as I put some pressure on him.

Re: TridCloudwalker's Anakin AotC Lightsaber Run!

The machinist called me today and said that he's doing some more work on the sabers. His old indexer was not capable of doing what was needed on this job, even after trying again and again and again, so he ended up dropping a few grand on a new indexer which arrived this morning. I'll be headed over on Sunday to snap some pics.

Re: TridCloudwalker's Anakin AotC Lightsaber Run!

I'll have a pic update tomorrow. I was horribly horribly sick all new years weekend (wasn't too much partying; there was a stomach flu going around), so I didn't make it to the shop on Sunday.

However, I did get these in the mail today:

Re: TridCloudwalker's Anakin AotC Lightsaber Run!

Here's a slightly better photo update.

First off, here's the new indexer. Doesn't look like much, but the run is impossible without it:

Here's a less blurry pic of of the beginnings of the shrouds. The big thick collars on the bottom are to accommodate the boxy area on top that the wire loop and "bulb release" fits into. It's all going to be milled from one piece, instead of having it in two pieces like some other runs have done. It's more expensive to do it this way, but it's screen accurate, and that's what we want.:)

I'm using a Chen made saber as a model that me and the machinist can use to discuss the project and point things out when a 3D visual is easier to understand than pointing at a 2D blueprint. Other than the outer tube of the main body, our sabers are nothing alike in terms of engineering and many of the dimensions.

Here's all the solid inner cores again waiting to have their channels and knob holes cut in, which they finally can, now that he has the indexer:

The outer shells (main bodies) had a bit more work done to them. The outer diameter has been shaved down to the proper width, and again, now that the indexer is finally in, the grip slots and side channel can be cut:

More updates to come soon.

Re: TridCloudwalker's Anakin AotC Lightsaber Run!

Thanks for the update. The run is taking a while to get done, but based on these pics it'll be worth the wait when we do get our sabers!

Re: TridCloudwalker's Anakin AotC Lightsaber Run!

Quite a bit, but I haven't been able to get over to the shop and snap any pics. I don't have work on Monday, so I'm hoping to make down then.

Re: TridCloudwalker's Anakin AotC Lightsaber Run!

Hey look! Grooves. Groovy!
(about a half inch of material needs to be cut off the bottom, but you get the idea)

More pics in a few days. My phone died before I could take more. :angry

Re: TridCloudwalker's Anakin AotC Lightsaber Run!

I 'm quite a new member and just discovered this run.
If you have extra electronic ready hilts,I would be in.

Re: TridCloudwalker's Anakin AotC Lightsaber Run!

looks great - I can sure relate to delays...my run is taking forever too

Re: TridCloudwalker's Anakin AotC Lightsaber Run!

Nothing very interesting. Fine tuning on the outer bodies mostly. I'll have some picture worthy stuff on Tuesdayish.
