Trick or Treat 2019 Catalogue

These screenshots were taken from a live feed done at a con that TOTS had a booth at. Apparently the finished knives will be plastic, and the blades wrapped with metal in a process called electroplating, which I am completely unfamiliar with. Perhaps one of our more experienced RPFers could enlighten me on how that works and the durability/costs of doing it.

Electroplating is used to apply a thin metal coating to an item. The process uses an electric current and charges the piece, and then it is dipped in a bath that has dissolved metal in the liquid. The electric charge attracts the metal and it adheres to the item.

Here is a more in-depth explanation:

Well, the dolls that people received were not like advertised, and they looked fairly off from their promotion pictures

And the company was horrible at resolving the situation. I had to resort to a PayPal dispute. In the end I was reimbursed fully, got to keep my Gizmo and ended up selling it for half price. I'd never deal with them again.

Well they also had problems with those. Logo is off on mine and one shoe doesn't have the finish gloss. Hopefully I can open a paypal dispute and keep it. Fingers crossed.

Wait.... you hope to keep it and get your money back? Why not return it for your money back? I may be a minority with this view, but keeping an item AND getting the $500.00+ refund is rather uncool.

Now, I get it, you were disappointed in the company and it is their fault that they didn't do more quality control, but does that warrant ripping them off in return? Two wrongs do not make a right. I am sure you wouldn't want to sell an item here in the junkyard, have a customer buy it, complain that there is something wrong with it, then open a case, win the case and then keep both the money and your item.

When I had my issue with their Gizmo, they wouldn't accept a return. So I filed a claim and won - Paypal told me to keep the merchandise. Maybe that's where joelgoodson is getting that from?

Maybe.... but I know I would feel less comfortable keeping a $500 item as opposed to a Gizmo that was under $60.00.

Exactly.

It just sucks to pay that amount and receive a product with flaws. I know some will say it's because it's mass produced, but you know, never had a problem with an iPhone out of the box.

Obviously, if they want to send me some coveralls and a shoe, I will be more than happy.

Not a fan of Trick or Treat. They blocked from their Facebook page because I asked a poster if he was ok how low the Good Guys Logo was on his Chucky replica.

I got booted from their FB group for confronting Chris Zephro about threatening prop makers with C&Ds. Of course, he booted me before I could post the screencaps I have. I like their products, but Zephro is an d!ck.

But he has every right to not only threaten, but also follow through on C&Ds to other prop makers. To call him a D*** for exercising that right is a bit odd.

If you put out tens of thousands of dollars into legally licensing the rights to make these items, I guarantee you too would go after others who are producing the stuff illegally. Those people are not only making the items illegally but they are taking away business from you, and those sales are needed to recoup the money you paid upfront to obtain the license. I find it humorous that small time unlicensed prop builders always complain when the licensor or a licensee cracks down them, when the person complaining is actually the one breaking the law. They feel they are being picked on, lol.

Technically only the IP owner, not a license holder, can follow through on C&D threats. It is my understanding that the only thing a license holder can do is report them to the IP owner.

Let me give you some background on Chris Zephro and maybe you'll understand why what he does hurts. 10 years ago, when I first got into the Myers collecting hobby, Chris was just a moderator on a Myers collecting board called Michael-Myers (dot) net. He didn't have Trick Or Treat Studios, a shop, anything. He was just a moderator. To many of the community, he was a friend. He didn't cop an attitude with you, didn't make you feel like you were beneath him, he was just an ordinary collector like the rest of us. Like many of us, we admired and were friends with Justin Mabry. Zephro was the only guy daring enough to take that further and become a business partner with Mabry. They took a few of Mabry's sculpts to Universal for a licensing agreement. From what they say, it is VERY difficult to do this process, and most don't bother. During the early days of TOTS, many of us looked up to what Zephro had done. We thought it was one of the communities greatest success stories.

The C&Ding is a relatively new phenomenon. It wasn't something Zephro would have had the balls to do 10 years ago when I first met him. In fact, I would dare say it would have been something he would have disagreed with. Now, he goes after the little guys. And when I say little guys, I mean the new guys on the block that aren't well known and nobody would notice if they disappeared and stopped producing. If you look at who he goes after, it's not the big names that everybody knows and buys from, the people with the REAL potential to cut into his profits. People like the guys at HandiBoy, Nik Dresios of NAG, Dela Torre, even Terry Lambert for all his scummy scamming. Those guys make money hand over fist with unlicensed Myers masks, and I guarantee you they'll never see a C&D because they day they do, is the day mask collector stop buying from TOTS.

If you want to get nitpicky about law, just remember that technically almost every creator here who has ever built and sold a movie lightsaber, or E-11, or any other licensed prop are technically breaking the law. Many IPs could bring lawsuits and shutter this place if they felt the need to, and we'd never have this conversation. But they don't. Because they know better than to bite the hand that feeds them. They know that a couple of guys tinkering in their garage doesn't really affect their bottom line. Chris Zephro is causing more harm to the Myers community than good. He's not C&Ding not out of the goodness of his heart, or because he's protecting the license. He's just become a greedy man who cares more about his profit margins than the people he used to call a friend.

I wish they’d restock gizmo and make them better after the fiasco from last year x)

Have they fixed him? In the 2018 version of this thread Chris Zephro said the hair problems were just on the first batch that went out and later ones have been fixed but I haven't seen any videos or photos of ones that look like their catalog pictures. All the catalog photos or website photos look different from what is shipped out. I just got the generic evil gremlin puppet and they did a great job on the paint, though the 2019 catalog picture higher up on this page has the paint jobs reversed, my evil gremlin has the same paint scheme as the evil Stripe gremlin, and all the evil Stripes I have seen have the paint scheme they show on the generic evil gremlin.

I have no idea to be fair, but I am hoping they'll have some of the issues fixed, depends if anyone will do the jump to buy it haha, I wish the shipping to the UK wasn't so high :x I'd have bought a bunch of stuff otherwise!
