Transformers Fall of Cybertron PRIME

Nicely done so far! I've been plotting a Grimlock (somewhat G1, with touches of War For Cybertron's design mixed in), and I like the method of attack you're doing with this build! Rock on.

Great work so far are you doing it all free hand I would love to have a bash at a optimus prime but bit baffled about where to start, was thinking about basing it on a gundam and then free handing the finer details as I know there are templates and guides for gundams

Oh man, I'm sorry I've not checked in. Looking great and I love the idea of the Glowspecs. Might have to look into those.

I'm using that type of LED strip from my 'WfC' Optimus build because I am much more satisfied the the brightness and power consumption of LEDs over EL wire. Unfortunately, if not diffused correctly the LED strip will end up looking like dots like you feared. My early tests here: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=499337136819481

With a bit of adjusting I was able to diffuse it better. Not perfect but it works well enough for me: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=499680170118511

And they are powered by two 6V batteries, which when I tested them (all 5-metres of LED strip) lasted 12-hours with no discernible dimming with PLENTY of juice left. Those more proficient than myself will more than likely have a better and more compact battery solution.

thanks for all the feed back guys sorry i havent been updating been busy but im still working ill try and post up a bunch of pictures tomorrow.

i am just looking at pictures from in game and using the in-game character creator to take a look at all the pieces and just drawing out the shapes i see so completely free hand its worked pretty well so far but im starting to have some issues in around the cod piece abs and back but i think those are mostly stemming from me getting lazy. a gundam may work but it depends what version of OP you want to tackle.

thanks man i ordered the strip alreadyand im sure ill find a way to make it work im glad to hear they last a long time is there an alternative to the 6V batteries they look really bulky i managed to store a small 12v in my iron man suit maybe i could use something simular for this. how did you go about diffusing the light it really looks great?

as for porgress i resined the helmet tody and will fiber glass it tomorrow after school i also started weathering the shins i think i went over board but the result is really nice il just tone it done a bit for the rest of the peices.

Oh yes the 6V batteries are definitely big and cumbersome but my build has a lot more room for stuff like that. Later down the track I may look into something lighter. THere are things like sealed acid batteries or something along those lines (again, those more knowledgeable than I will know better) and are rechargeable I think. Certainly lasts longer than a series of AAs or a tiny 12v battery.

The LEDs on the tyres are diffused by a strip of foam gap filler rod ( Gap Filler Rod Moroday 10mm 5m White Mgf2 1-81219 I/N 4061881 | Bunnings Warehouse ) inside of a clear tubing, which has been sprayed red using the type of stuff you use on the tail lights of cars. Part of the tubing has been sliced off on the hidden side in order to give a clear light to the foam. The other lit up parts of him will have plastic plates and a clear type of flexible kitchen chopping mat I found to diffuse.

thanks man my lights still haven't showed up so im running out of hope for them being here in time for Halloween so ill hopefully add them later down the line.

Anyhow it has been a long time since I updated sort of stopped working on this. I had the worst feeling it wasn't going to fit together in the end and just lost motivation but now two weeks to the big debut day im back in action I finished the foam and will be putting it together this weekend.

optimus broke back.jpg

I decided the back was to big and had to rip it apart and build a new one

optimus torso.jpg

the last thing left was to finish the arms
optimus finished shoulders.jpgoptimus arms.jpg

with that done I decided I needed to work with the helmet so I started the bondo work unfortunately after it was resined and fiberglassed I left it outside to dry and it got rained on for the most part its alright but the card board is a little soggy at the bottom so ill need to make sure the bondo is thick

optimus twoface.jpg

ill hopefully get the helmet almost done tomorrow and strapp it all together on sunday

wish me luck ill be back soon with more updates thanks for checking it out

well Ive got one week to go now

almost done side.jpghalf way there.jpgoptimus back head.jpgoptimus forhead.jpgoptimus helmey almost done.jpg

the helmet has been pretty much my entire focus this last week its almost done hopefully it will be tomorrow.

I also started strapping everything together and my lights showed up today I really hope I cant get this done

I got this picture of it being toughly held together let me know what you think thanks.

so I did get this done just took me a while to get around to updating it didn't come out as good as I was hoping but I might keep working on it and see if I can make it acceptable.

Aw mate that looks great! How does it all feel and move and stuff? Tell me!!

Oh by the way, coincidentally, I finished mine the other day too! :D

yeah I saw on facebook it looks great man moving in this one is a bitch I think I like your way of building with the puppet arms a lot better honestly this ones legs flop around to much and I don't really have the forearms attached I just wear hockey gloves and it kind of hold them on

no problem man it was a pretty difficult process but honestly its a lot more fun doing it without the templates and just going freehand

Thanks, mate. :)

It's your first time wearing it in full so there are bound to be a few teething problems. Hell I've only worn it once and I still need to learn how to walk in it :p You'll feel more comfortable the next few times. Again, it looks great! :D

nah I need to find a better way to attach the shins right now they have little kid goalie pads in them to hold them on but they twist to easily which and then they trip me once ive figured that out I should be golden

Can you use 9v batteries or is that to high?
