Transformers Fall of Cybertron PRIME

So today I started thinking seriously about what I wanted to do for Halloween this year. The first thought was to update my iron man suit but that seemed to much like recycling and I didn't feel I had the time I need to do what I really want with it and I wanted to try something new. So I figured I wold revert back to something I have dreamed of doing since I first started costuming and finally tackle a transformers build so I figured Id do a G1 prime my little brother suggested I do the version from fall of cybertron i've never personally played the game but after watching the trailer I fell in love and the build began im just free handing it no templates or anything I got a good portion done the legs today I don't think ive seen any other builds from the cybertron games so tell me what you think

Yes!!! I'm a Transformers fan more than I am a fan of anything else, though I've never actually done a Transformers build. This is looking really good so far, I'll be paying close attention to your progress, can't wait to see more! Keep up the good work!

i got quite a bit done today i got the second shin caught up with the first and got the side uhm i don't know area where the wheels connect complete on one side

optimus shin sides.jpg
side view of the shins

optimus shin wheels.jpg
and this is where i am at for the night i really don't know what to call these things but i will hopefully tomorrow be finishing them on the other shin and possibly finishing the backs of the shins as well

so with my account issues now sorted out I am able to post again and while I haven't got a lot done do to working a lot and just other things I managed over this weekend to get a fair amount of progress

optimus shins strike again.jpg
so for starters I got almost done the shins the right one needs the other grill which is half way done to call them both finished

optimus shoulder.jpg
next I started on the shoulders and looking at them and optimus' body shape I am slightly puzzled on how I will connect them and because of this I haven't completely finished them to leave options for when it is time to cross that bridge and I fear they may still be to big. Also unintentionally just being what I had I switched to half inch instead of the quarter inch foam I used on the shins and I must say I like it much better and will be sticking with it the rest of the build

optimus to big.jpgoptimus chest.jpg
because of how unsure I was on the shoulders I decided to build the chest I was about half way done when I realized that it was just way to big in everyway and the shoulder would definitely not fit and I couldn't even fit through a door so I had to rip it apart and rebuild it smaller I got caught up to where I was on the old one and ran out of hot glue so after work tomorrow I will be running to get some and keep going

thanks for checking this out

well I may be talking to myself but today I did get some minor work done I finally finished the shins so I can stop feeling like im posting the exact same picture day after day

optimus finally finished shins front back.jpgoptimus finally finished shins side.jpg
just thought id give a view of all 4 sides

then also as a bonus I got a little bit of work done on the boots
optimus toes.jpg

tomorrow im hoping to possibly begin on the helmet im making it out of carboard and a construction helmet

thanks for checking this out let me know what you think

Wow. Very cool. Love the progress so far! :D

You're moving along faster than I am. I'm working on a War for Cybertron Optimus. I'm on the home stretch but it's been a looooong journey. :p

that's really awesome dude I haven't seen any other cybertron game builds around id love to check your out

so today I didn't get as much work in as possible went on a bit of a road trip but visually it looks like a lot more than usual

for starters I got the boots finished as they are a very very simple design I decided id have to add a clip inside once I figure out how to attach them to the shoes I think I may need so bigger shoes or boots or something

optimus boots.jpgoptimus shoes.jpg

putting them together with the shins things are looking good
optimus legs and feet.jpg

after that I finished the chest the I don't know what to call it I guess grill that hangs down in the center of the chest doesn't sit entirely straight but it will do all in all im really happy with how it came out the cardboard wind shields will be replaceing with an actual LED backed piece of plexi glass later after its all painted
optimus chest finished.jpgoptimus side chest.jpg
im also thinking with how far it sticks out which is about a foot from my chest ill need to find a way to counter balance.

that's all for today let me know what you think thanks for checking this out

didn't get a hell of a lot done today figured id put it up anyways thighs are finished

optimus thighs.jpg
these things ate up a ton of foam ill have to go get more soon

Yeah I bet you're going through pack after pack. Looks great though! :)

I don't want to hijack your thread but I'll just leave here an example of where I am with my build (it's half suit/half puppet rather than armour): https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=489123524507509

Also, I think I did spot someone doing a few FoC suits a little while ago but it seems to have gone missing amongst all the thread.

alright well my foam crisis is still going on as I haven't made it out yet any ways I did get the belt finished

optimus crotch.jpgoptimus ass.jpgoptimus ruff assembled.jpg

so yeah that's where I am at ill post more as I get more

so I haven't really updated as frequently ive sort of lost interest in this as it gets harder and harder to do but im not abandoning it just looking for motivation ive gotten a little bit done these last few days its not much to show but here it is

iron man back part.jpgoptimus spine.jpgoptimus stomach.jpg

im not really happy with the way the abs and cod fit together but the abs fit perfectly snug on me so well it stays up without a strap so I will just maybe modify it later to make it look better. That's all I have to show for now but as I see more and more Halloween stuff creeping into stores I feel more and more pressure to finish this so hopefully it picks up again soon.

thanks for looking

so not a massive update I tried to work on the back today with not much luck I don't know if im losing my touch or these pieces are just really hard anyways here is what I got

optimus back pieces.jpgoptimus back partial.jpg

I hope to get the rest of the foam work done soon but I think I will start the helmet this weekend

thanks for looking

dude i know that feel! IMO if it doesn't feel right take a step back prototype different styles with paper and if your unhappy redo it!

I think it looks good from here but then again I'm not as familiar with his FoC design as you are.

Whatever you need to do keep at it! :D

I think I might take a step back tomorrow and begin sealing the legs so I can paint them soon and hopefully seeing some finished pieces will really get me motivated to keep going on this.

thanks for the feedback it really helps motivate me to see some people are actually watching

You are doing an amazing job. Cant wait to see how the finished product will look. Im trying to get around to making a Grimlock costume for next year, so this is motivating me, as well. Keep up the awesome work! I will be following this build for sure!

that would be really bad ass man I really hope you can get that going id love to see a grimlock.

so its been a while but I have been hard at work on the beauty piece of course I mean the helmet.
I cut off the rim of a construction helmet for a base and went nuts with cardboard.

optimus helmet begins.jpgoptimus ears.jpgoptimus eyes.jpg

the eyes were a real pain in the ass to make nothing seemed to work but I finally got it and they are perfect in place.

ive ordered a pair of glospex to put in the eyes for those of you who don't know they are more or less glowing glasses and I think well hope they will work for my purposes.

LEFT_BLUE_SHOPthumb__64985.1337556108.200.160.jpg

ive got the helmet almost done at this point I need to finish the grills on the sides of the mouth and the back which I will hopefully so this weekend

optimus mouth.jpgoptimus round bit.jpgoptimus helmet gold lens.jpg

now for my big question I am really unexperienced with working with lights and this costume is going to require a lot im looking at EL wire and EL tape to dothe most of the lighting. does anyone have a lot of experience working with this kind of thing because I really don't know what I should order.

so I was really hoping to have a big update but ive kind of been shot in the knees as for this build its going to be a massive struggle to get it done but im hoping for the best. ANYWAYS I did finish the helmet and it has shaped up quite well

optimus helmet finished.jpgoptimus bust.jpg

and these beauties just arrived for me today

glospex.jpg

so now comes where I really need help has anyone taken apart glospex before as my head doesn't fit in the helmet with them inside as well. Also I am going to be ordering some EL wire and tape soon anyone have a good tutorial on how to use the stuf as it will be in almost every single piece of the suit.

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/5M-12V-IP65-..._Lights_Fairy_Lights&var=&hash=item1e7ed11102

does anyone know if this kind of strip LEDS will look evenly lit when I receive it I just don't want it to look like the lights are just dotted. I would like to be an evenly lit strip of light somewhat tron esque if that makes any sense

thanks a bunch feed back is always greatly appreciated
