Transformers: Age of Extinction

I was waiting for someone to pull out the flag argument. I've never known a country to be offended by their own national flag.

I'm all for showcasing the flag. I'm a patriot, through and through. Cut me and I bleed red, white, and blue.

That said, I have to agree with the notion that using the flag as a subconscious selling point is a slimy notion. Unless the flag is a central theme to the film (such as a movie about war, patriotism, the government, or the American Ideal/Dream), it reeks of someone who is so terrified that their movie won't be accepted that they will go to any lengths to see that it is, even if those lengths turn people off. Basically, it's like directors are saying "My movie may be crap, but go see it because of the flags. If you don't, you're not a real American!"

Disgusting.

I love they put our flag all over the movie yet half of it was filmed in China and it'll be released there before here. That's like George Romero trying to pass off Canada as the Pittsburgh area in his movies these days.

Or Making a movie based on World War Z... changing it from Yonkers to Philly... and filming all the Philly scenes in Scotland?

'merica!!!

Same way he can go from this

Mov-protoform-autobot-1.jpg

Because... 1) they're TRANSFORMERS and 2) They need to sell toys because it's a movie BASED ON TOYS.

No different than Bumblebee swtching from POS Camaro to hot new Camaro or Megatron going from weird alien ship to weird alien tank thing to piece of crap truck thing.

Basically, it's like directors are saying "My movie may be crap, but go see it because of the flags. If you don't, you're not a real American!" Disgusting.

Reminds me of The Campaign and one of how Cam Brady's (Ferrell) speeches "If you don't agree with me you don't support the troops" or something to that effect.

PS... If you don't see Transformers 4 at least 3 times in the theater you support al Qaeda.

My guess?

Optimus (and possibly the other Autobots) take on different forms in order to hide, with Optimus taking on the G1 form. However, he still gets discovered and gets the crap shot out of him, putting him into the Cybertronian equivalent of a coma, and when he wakes up to Kick Decepticon Tuchus in the Name of Justice, he has to take on a new form.

In a real-world sense, Michael Bay-Splosions is probably pandering to all the purists who complained that Optimus was not a flat-nosed semi.

Still don't like the flames, though.

Exactly this. I think Bay just stuck the Freightliner in there to sucker in the purists (which is kinda working for me :lol ), but then as soon as Optimus Prime wakes up, he'll fairly quickly take on the modern flame form. I can't wait to get a proper look at his Freightliner robot mode. Doesn't look too different to his usual mode, but I want to see dem windows and grill!

I just wonder if we will have an actual cool Combiner in this movie... After the horrible devastator, and with the Dinobots appearing.. we all know that no decepticon was a match for any of them, and the combiners were the only things that remotely came close to beating them..

Nitpicking? I guess. When Spiderman did the American flag schtick, it was more acceptable back then because the film was released shortly after 9/11 happened. But after that, especially with Spider Man 3, it really wore out it's welcome. I found it's forceful presence annoying back than, and I still find it annoying now. I'm proud to be an American, but I'm not going to shove that fact in your face or tell you how awesome we are.

It has nothing to do with 9/11. If you go to any normal town in the U.S. any day of the week there will be flags flown on most houses, businesses, govt. buildings, etc. I can't see that anyone would complain that there are too many American flags. I think it's worse when people think the only time to fly the flag is during national tragedies, wars, etc.

Funny you should mention something like using the American flag during national tragedies and war as a bad thing, because this trailer features a billboard that does all of those things.

I didn't mean that it's a bad thing, just that if you are patriotic you should fly the flag all the time, not just when something happens.

Its probably his most complained about thing. But I doubt we will even see the transformation itself. Looking at the trailer. Hes just the flat nose in one scene. And already transformed when he busts out. Think it was ROTF special features where bay talked about how a flat nose was just not possible when thinking about the volume from vehicle to bot ratio. He said it just didnt work. So wasnt going to do it just to please the ney sayers. I like the idea of a nod to the original. But learned to move with the times a long time ago and not to complain when something changes. And accepted the new designs easier then I thought. I cant wait for this movie.

/\ Exactly. Unfortunately, a lot of people just don't get over the fact this isn't G1. You have to take a step back and look at it as a whole. It is to G1, what say...Beast Wars, Energon, Prime is. It is a new version, nothing is gonna match, there will be similarities. Be glad he is a semi and not a firetruck, like they did in the R.I.D. show. People are still going banana's over BB not being a VW bug(G1 version)...guess what, that would look terrible trying to race down the highway....5 miles behind Optimus and crew...

G1 will always be my favorite, but that doesn't stop me from enjoying the new stuff that comes out.

:lol Bay is a lying idiot. First, he promises us "Gen 1", but doesn't seem to know that a simple REPAINT of the toys was "Gen 2". So......what he gave us was like "Gen 25". Peter Cullen was the ONLY carry-over. Character names don't count if they're beyond repaints.

But the volume from vehicle to bot ratio??? Maybe he can explain why Optimus goes from a TINY truck cab (Seriously- go look at one in real life), to a 90 foot robot with tiny windshields on his chest! Catching Sam and Mikaela in his hand under the bridge in the first movie.

Or how Frenzy's big head turned into a tiny smart phone.

............OR........ how the GI-NORMOUS Allspark turned into a frackin LUNCHBOX!! I love that one. Megatron was impossible in the cartoon, but not that? Whatever.

:lol He's got no argument. He's just too lazy to try.

A toy isnt exactly the same. But whatever. I was just saying what he said.

To certain other posters Before this conversation continues. I feel I should tell you.

Im not willing to discuss your lack of ability to let things go and move on..... except to tell you im not willing to discuss your lack of ability to let things go an move on.
Ya know... sector 7.
Enjoy hating the movie cos its cool to hate reboots.
I cant wait!

Be easy, bro. I was just addressing his statement, not you, personally. And, no, a toy isn't the same, I'm simply demonstrating that a fully proper, G1, robot form can, in fact, be transformed into a flat-nosed semi. I didn't do it to argue with you.

Oh, I don't know, I think it could work.

Totally doable in my book.

I imagine how cool it would be to send that figure back in time to myself in 1983. That and an Xbox 360, iPhone and the Transformers movies. I would be a GOD!!!! The that kid who's parents must have had relative in Japan and got all those Transformers before they ever hit stores in the US would have to worship me!!! Moooahahahahah.

The trailer looks interesting but I have to say....this comes across as a rehash of the last film? I mean we're chasing the Autobots off AGAIN? didn't we do this last time? and how did that go?

And who's the (Decepticon?) who's face turns into a gun??
