update..

I just finished my Borg arm the other day, and people are already saying how much they like it. so I'm attaching pics and a video of the completed arm. Hope you like it. Next part is the other arm with nanotubes for assimilation. I deleted all the old pics on this posting, and have only my news ones now.

Hey everyone,

It's been some time since I've posted anything, but I'm starting a new project. The Borg Arm. I'm in the process of purchasing items for the build, but was wondering if anyone has actually created one? I'll attach some pics of what I'm trying to build for next Halloween in 2025. I'd be very interested in any plans or drawings/sketches anyone might want to share with me along with a materials list. Thank you.

I made one 22 years ago as part of a Borg costume. It was some HVAC conduit with a dowel glued inside it to form a handle. Contours were sculpted in foam with detail junk from surplus and auto parts stores glued all over it -- I can recognize some contact lens holders, soccer shin pads, and water heater parts in this photo. The claw was an adjustable car cup holder from Wal-Mart.

Looks really cool. Do you have other pics of it from different angles, and instructions?

I'm not sure. It was 22 years ago; I don't have the costume any more. Pretty sure I tossed it during a move.

Just do what I did – go to Lowes or Home Depot, visit the HVAC section, and start sticking your arm in the metal pipe and tube. Find something that seems a good fit and use that as your base.

I don't think you're going to find a step by step tutorial on what you're looking for. Most of these builds are one-offs. I've never seen a documented build posted on here, but I have seen Borg costumes. Another thing you will need is a few lengths and diameters of corrugated split wire loom. Look for stuff in your stash that you can securely screw or glue to your tube to make it look like mechanical or electronics. If you can, don't make it easily identifiable stuff, if you can.

If you have a little electronic experience, you can add LEDs to the arm to make it that much more eerie. Also, you're going to have to figure out how you're going to mount the arm on the rest of your costume. Will you use straps or will you have a grip inside the tube and a trigger to activate LEDs. In addition to LEDs, you might want to get one of those Tamiya junior electromechanical kits and make some kind of mechanical contraption that moves at the end of the arm.

Since there are little to no resources on here to guide you through this, why don't you start a thread here documenting your own build?

Hello, I've purchased some non-split black corrugated tubing, LED's, a child's toy claw. I have on hand some EVA foam, plus some electronic boards, and pieces. I'm looking around for some PVC pipe, and other items to add to it. I will create my own thread, and do a step by step tutorial with pics if anyone wants to build one for themselves. I do have tons of pics of various different types of Borg arms, and will try to build one from all of those.
