I was waiting for someone to pull out the flag argument. I've never known a country to be offended by their own national flag.
I'm all for showcasing the flag. I'm a patriot, through and through. Cut me and I bleed red, white, and blue.
That said, I have to agree with the notion that using the flag as a subconscious selling point is a slimy notion. Unless the flag is a central theme to the film (such as a movie about war, patriotism, the government, or the American Ideal/Dream), it reeks of someone who is so terrified that their movie won't be accepted that they will go to any lengths to see that it is, even if those lengths turn people off. Basically, it's like directors are saying "My movie may be crap, but go see it because of the flags. If you don't, you're not a real American!"
