Comparing at home, this to me is an MR P2 with a reworked P1. Guessing they didn't have a P2 ready. Just have to see if they update later. Argh. At least there is a new TOS phaser coming to help those that missed the Wand offering.

The SNW phaser is currently at $850 (it was $800 before the tariff increase). I'd expect the same or even more.
Which is really a shame. It's priced too high for so many fans who would love to have it. Or, folks like me who can spend that much, but won't because we feel that price point is just too high for what you get. Make it about $400 and everyone who regrets missing out on the Wand phaser would likely grab one. I would. When Wand can release their amazing tricorder for $400 with far more functionality that a phaser, $800 just seems a bit too much.

I was excited about the SNW phaser, until I found out that it was $800. So I barely even looked at the BSG blaster, and had very little interest in the Cage laser. If trek prop freaks like me who spend thousands a year on props, aren't willing to pay over inflated exploded prices, I don't see how they can do very well. Maybe it's just that we trek prop freaks know they aren't worth that high price.

although now that I think about it, in 2003 whne the MR TOS phaser came out, $399 translates into about $700 in today's value

I don't care about tariffs or "time value of money" calculations. $800 for a toy - yes, it is a toy - is way too much. I would have bought the SNW phaser for about $150, but $800?! No way. Same for the TOS phaser. Price it reasonably and It will sell. Look at the Wand Tricorder. Expensive, but a good value when you consider its functionality. Put these toys up for a ridiculous price, and you can stuff it. Tired of getting ripped off.

I agree about the MR P2 profile. I do like the look of this P1, but it’s clearly not seated properly at the nose, which suggests something is off dimensionally. I’m surprised they didn’t shim the P1 in better to give the appearance of a more accurate fit.

I think maybe they should have waited until they could show more. This seems to me to be a future product announcement and not a prototype display proper. And I hope they do not just copy the MR P2 and call it a day. I saw that big gap in front of the rear fins and I was, wait a minute, I've seen that before. LOL

Is that a Wand P1 hand phaser in a Master Replicas P2 body? With some new extra crispy on top of the wand sight plate?

You’re right. The more I study these images, the more I cringe. Nothing about it is right. And it’s not a ‘prototype’ it’s a publicity stunt.

Awww hell's noes. No they dinnit! LOL Ok, this is total weak sauce. So we have zero idea what the offering will look like. Arrrgh X2. They are using two other companies products passing it off as their prototype. That seems illegal! LOL

This is the same company that seems to count doing a Google image search as "research" for their previous replicas, so banging together a display piece out of two companies' previous products doesn't seem that unexpected.

I certainly hope they don't duplicate the wonky rear fins/fin cutout from the MR on their new replica.

I know many here are complaining about the price, but in reality, the manufacturers are dealing with quite a bit of cost and are not making a huge profit doing this.
First, they have to pay a licensing fee, which takes a significant bite out of that cost.

They have to prototype, machine out parts, doing so in very limited quantities. It is not like high production numbers that get greater discount due to the high amount of items made. Most machine shops will charge an arm and leg and a bit more to do such a project. If, they will do it at all.

They also have to pay for a company/engineer to make custom packaging, again in low numbers. Most packaging companies with charge a minimum of $ 60,000 to do that. Packaging for a delicate or intricate item makes that initial cost very high. And then ANOTHER fee to produce the packaging and having it set to the manufacturer overseas.

They have to pay then for advertising, raw resources, their own highly talented people to design the piece, all the employees that are in the company from the time of deciding what they will make, through a year or two or three to the time they get the item out for sale to the public. You have shipping from the manufacturer, fees for cost and import, storage of the item to the company, shipping out again and if there are any retailers, you have to add in the extra cost of a profit margin for them. Utilities, overhead cost of a company and many many more cost for doing so.

Most across the pond cost have skyrocketed due to inflation and hire labor cost in third world countries that have seen cost rise by 400 percent in the last decade. It's not that cheap to make items overseas any longer.

All of this process at a risk, will it be profitable enough? Will it sell quickly (which is needed to keep overhead cost down).

Frankly, it's a steal at under a thousand dollars when you factor how much costly that entire process. Remember, all the cost at the start from 2 to 3 years ago and in very low production numbers unlike 99.9999999999999999999999999999% of other types of companies. Specialty pieces are far more expensive for items like this. Kudo's to the prop companies making these, it's a very tough thing to do. So much so, many companies are tending to stop manufacturing specialty low number items because it just is not profitable now. For prop companies, they have to be constantly designing and moving product to survive. It is a difficult process for most companies which is why it is so rare and the number of companies doing so gets smaller by the day.

To the complainers, you do not know just lucky to have a company doing so. If you really like and want to see this very very VERY tiny niche market survive, you should be cheer leading support for them. With the way cost keep going up, companies like these are a dying breed. Hats off to all the specialty prop companies out there for doing incredible works!
