TOS era Medkit/CASE? Possibly Custom?

Ok, so I have a replica of the wonderful leather case that McCoy wore on away missions, usually containing his good ol' hypospray, a spray healer, a reader, and maybe a vile or two of cordrazine.

My TOS medical collection has expanded to include the heart beat monitor, a couple of scalpels, an anabolic protoplaser, etc. and has long outgrown the leather case. Usually on the show, we see these tools on a metal medical tray, never in a case.

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas or leads on a TOS medical CASE, or something that looks like McCoy could have used to bring along a wider selection of tools.

I have amassed quite a collection of Trek "Role-play" kits and cases which I will show off sometime soon. This is the last one and a solution has eluded me.

Re: TOS era Medkit?

I should mention that I remember the foggy clear/white acrylic case McCoy uses in the Abramsverse to remove his hypospray, but havn't been able to ID it.

Re: TOS era Medkit?

I actually have the foldover leather pouch, that you probably have. It fits just a few pieces.

I seem to remember him carrying some sort of a case under his arm, I THINK in "Miri". Maybe someone will have some screen caps......Karl? :D

Many episodes in the 1st season, and few in the 2nd, he carried (for lack of a better term) a zippered, leather case.

Then came the 2 part flip down.

And finally, they added another section to flip down that contained the vacutainers (w/ white, rubber stoppers).

I don't believe that the version Jay showed was ever used- could be wrong, but IMO, it was an interpretation started way back.

(no photos at present to back up these claims).

In the first season, McCoy carried a large black bag with a flap. This he had on landing parties ("Miri") as well as aboard ship ("City on the Edge of Forever")

In the third season, McCoy's pouch expanded to have a whole flip-down section; in "Plato's Stepchildren" he has test tubes attached to the flap but these seem to be fixed on with gaffer tape.

At Worldcon 2006 Greg Jein had what seemed to be the original 3-part pouch

...as well as the first-season black bag

Okay, so anyone know who can make the fold out leather case? I would very much be up for one! :thumbsup

I think David may be swamped with his new Batman lisence. Anyone else that knows leather? Surely someone here can make this happen.

Well, actually, not to toot my own horn, but I've done leather work for years. If I can get the dimentions, I can make these, no problem. There is even a leather store less than 3 miles from me that I buy supplies from all the time.

Lemme figure out what the cheapest I could make them for would be, and I can see what the interest would be.

I can get you 'cloe enough' demensions tonight. Do you think you could make it look similar to the one pictured?

I can make it look (darn near) exactly like the one pictured. I don't want to say "exactly" like it without having the actual prop in front of me. Any extra photos would be helpful, but those two are really good. (No idea what the BACK looks like yet.) Seriously, if I can get some good reference information, I can make it.

If you need funding for this, PM me. I REALLY want to see this happen.

Ditto to FunkyJedi's sentiment.

Just to be clear, I assume you are talking about the tri-fold? I wouldn't mind paying for the other case as well!!!

My best shots of the medical pouch. :cool

Remember me when the replicas are done. :D

Note BTW that the hypo shown is the FIRST-SEASON hypo, which has a sleeve that slides back and forth (it does not collapse down and get shorter, as the hypo you're used to seeing, does).

The back view shows there's a huge loop of velcro, apparently tied to the leather pouch by a few thick threads.

Okay, Jaruemalak, what do you need from us to get started?

THANK YOU for all the extra photos! One question: that scale printed on the moleskin wallet... is it inches or centemeters, etc.?

I'm heading to the leather store today to try to find a matching leather. I'll make a pattern this weekend, and get a prelim model made by next week.

I hesitate to ask for any money from anyone until I get the product made and ready... too many people have been burned on here and I refuse to be the cause of one more! If I can get an interest list going, and once I've made one, I can get a price, make them and THEN have people pay for them. I want to keep the price fare for everyone.
