Tombstone Val Kilmer / Doc Holliday Costume

The Val photo, definitely has an extra coat. Great demo with the lines JohnHolliday .

The part that made it difficult for me was the last manny photo was displayed in such a way as to make it look like the cape WAS sleeves because it has been tucked purposely to wrap around the wrists. But, no actual suit jacket is present in the manny photo:

But, it does make it clear to me (sorry for coming to this party so late) that the long overcoat has armholes. The manny arms are through the long coat but under the cape, yes?

If the outfit at the bottom has all the same pieces as Val's photo..... I am right back to no sleeves unless they are completey hidden in the manny photo.
I know that, sometimes, people have mixed-up the cloak vs. the cape. But, a cloak can be part of a coat (not/or detachable) and thus the coat sleeves are there in the first place. No slits for that coat. It's a one piece garnement. Some were designed to have a detachable cloak, but for this one, it's not the case. Many times, especially for men, the cloak's length is the same as the sleeves' length...hence the confusion trying to see if there's sleeves or not.;) It's an extra protection against the elements. It could be flipped easily over both shoulders to cool down the wearer easily. The English Navy has a "cloak cape" a little longer than the one Kilmer wears (dropping below the buttocks)...
Below, a U.S. army cloak uniform from the Civil War.

Greetings!

Hope everyone in here is well. Wanted to ask two questions regarding (Kilmer's) "Huckleberry" outfit:
1. Are the dots on his vest WHITE or GOLD?
2. Until there is a good replica, are there any good options for the two-tone panel shirt?

I'll post some pics of my build in a day or so, including my charcoal pinstripe frontier pants and shooter boots I found at an antique/vintage/second-hand store in Tombstone!

I've always been impressed with RPF members, whether it's in the Star Wars forums, MARVEL forums, or now as I venture into the Holliday/Tombstone forums. And when it comes to costuming, nothing beats a "hive mind" approach.

Thank you in advance for any guidance, direction, or input you can provide.

Respectfully,
Jason

Welcome! The dots on his vest appear to be either white or very light grey/silver:

If you want a close-enough shirt ASAP, do a search on secondhand markets and Google for Wah Maker/Scully and Frontier Classics shirts. I haven't seen any from them that are spot on for any of Doc's shirts but they have quite a few that are reasonably close and will look and feel very authentic for the time period.

I'm interested to see your trousers, I've done a lot of searching but haven't been able to find any close enough for this outfit. I'm weighing either just getting a plain black pair or adding yet another project to my backlog and making them myself.

Welcome to the BEST thread on the RPF obrotherracing :) Cameron1138 is correct, the color of the diamond is either white or gray/silver. I am planning on taking a trip here this summer to look at the original vest so I should have a definite answer on this color here pretty soon. As for shirts, I think the best stand in at the present time is just a white tux shirt, but now with that being said my company is on the verge on making all of Val's/Doc's shirts from the movie. In fact, we are going to do every piece of Val's wardrobe to our very best ability. At the present time we have Val's/Doc's duster, scarf and a few of his cravats finished. Be on the lookout on this thread for all of these items as I will be posting everything as it gets finished

Thank you for the Welcome! Yes, I am extremely excited for what your company will be doing in the near future. I purchased the silver puff tie and love it! My vest is from Historical Emporium. The geometric shapes were close (enough), and I used a fabric paint pen to add the white dots. I still need to modify it to add the additional 2 pockets. The pants are Frontier Classics, and I found them at a second-hand shop in Tombstone, about 1 block away from the OK Corral. Boots are unbranded, but square-toed shooter boots with a 16" shaft. Found those at the same second-hand store.

I will hopefully finish the chest harness rig this week.

Again, thank you all for the welcome and the input. So greatly appreciated!

Respectfully,
Jason

Here's a pic in what I have so far: Wide-Brim Fedora from AmericanHatMakers, "Doc" shirt from Historical Emporium, Scully Vest from Historical Emporium (white dots added by me with an acrylic paint fabric pen, charcoal grey pinstripe pants by Frontier Classics (found in second hand store - need to be shortened a bit), Puffer Tie/Cravat from Hollywood Western Wardrobe (RPF member John Holliday), unbranded "gunfighter" boots (found in second hand store), and cross-body chest holster rig made by me using a (slightly) modified pattern from London Jacks Leather.

Still need to finish the holster, revolvers are printing, will clean up the vest dots, will swap the shirt out for something more proper, unless I decide to recolor it, and add the shooters curve to the hat. Of course, when the time comes, properly shave the facial hair.

Any constructive input/suggestions from the group?

Looking good so far! Do you think this is the pair of pants you have? The stripes look similar but the grey doesn't look as dark as yours in their listing photo so I'm not sure:

I bought a pair of these pants from River Junction, and I never got them. They told me they moved to a new location and somehow someway my pants disappeared into thin air. I did get a refund, but it took me awhile to get it as I was the one who had to keep asking where my order was. Just proceed with caution if you are buying these pants from them.

I'm still leaning towards buying a couple pairs of cheap tuxedo pants like these and hacking them together into a pair of Old West-style trousers:

The color and striping is about the closest I've seen on any existing pair to the screen-used ones and I really don't want to have to make any COMPLETELY from scratch.

Those are very cool looking pants, but I don't think they have the front pocket like Doc's which makes it hard to carry the Colt Lightning in the pants (although Doc does keep his Lightning in his upper right vest pocket at times).

I also made a mistake on the place where I bought these pants (that I never got), as I thought it was River Junction but in reality, it is the Old Trading Post as I just went back through some old emails. Sorry about that to all and especially River Junction.

They don't, that's something I'd have to add. The fronts are pleated so if I remove the pleats and press the fabric flat, that SHOULD leave enough extra material to add accurate pockets before attaching a new waistband, but I can't know for sure without seeing a pair in person. It would be a pretty extensive rebuild, the only parts I'd expect to be leaving fully intact would be the inseam and center crotch seam and I'd need to buy a second pair in order to have enough material to make a period-accurate waistband and add the back cinch. I'll only attempt it if I'm able to find any for sale with a good return policy in case I can immediately tell it won't work once I get them in hand haha.
