Tombstone Val Kilmer / Doc Holliday Costume

This one's the closest that I've found, but it's not a tweed or melton so it won't have the proper sort of texture for an Inverness coat and it's probably going to look too light-colored (but it's hard to say for sure without seeing how it looks from a further distance). Pretty pricey too, especially with the shipping cost from the UK. But at least it's a decent weight, heavy enough to at least have some nice drape to it but hopefully not heavy enough to be too hot. I'm still sticking with the plain charcoal herringbone I have for now.

I had this one in my favorites as well, but once again I don't think there is enough to one cloak :(

Sometimes I think that movie costume designers are, at heart, torturers!:lol::lol::eek::eek::eek: I can hear the convo: "Yes, I have the fabric I need to make that X (put your costume piece here)...while I was in Mongolia, in the small village of Soum, I discovered an 87 year old lady that was making this fabric, on a loom in a one room home with a dirt floor":lol::lol:

This sounds like at least 3 of my most recent costume elements. You are obviously far closer to realism than we would wish to be the case.

I once watched the minidoc on LOTR's costume department and, sooooo many times, the leading department head would say, "and I bought the remaining bolts" or "and they only had the one bolt".

Good News, they have enough fabric to make a few of the cloaks (although they are going to be VERY EXPENSIVE), now I have asked to see what the fabric looks like at a distance so I can see what the true color looks like.

OK, just to help MY cause here, what if I said, "Well, you know that my humble plan was to wear an exclusively Hollywood Western Wardrobe, Doc Holliday to my funeral. But actually planning to rise from my death bed and reveal that, in fact, it is only my retirement party." But there will be lots of children and old people and bunnies (insert your favorite cute animal here, if it helps) and my wife, who will be a pensioner at this point (fixed income and all, this part is important to my story) and recently grieving (OK, so that is more about being a pensioner and less about my faking death because I do have decent life insurance but still grieving a little) but maybe even more so because she got wind of the cost of my cloak.......

When you say very.........
VERY, VERY EXPENSIVE  The price for the fabric I am inquiring about is $60 a yard. There is going to be at least 12 yards of this fabric to make the cloak which will put just the fabric at $720, then factor in shipping, fabric lining, cording, buttons, pattern and then the time in making it. I figure this cloak is going to end up costing me around $1200 (give or take) when it's all said and done. Now of course this is all based on if I go with the herringbone with blue stripes fabric. I would much rather find a fabric at a lower price, but my goal is to get EVERYTHING Val wore as close as I can get it. In the end I will be just as broke as Doc was when he died but damn, I will look GREAT..........................

Damn, for that high of a total cost I'd keep looking or go with the one you were previously of then. I don't think it's quite perfect enough to be worth spending that much.

Maybe it's because I'm "The Style Guy" here, but $1,200 for that cloak is not that expensive;) I've seen coats, in my lifetime, that were more expensive than that! You also have to factor the longevity of that piece...You'll probably give/sell it years from now for a juicy price(y)(y)

I had just reread the posts before reading yours and I thought, 'Wow, we cosplayers are a poor lot." I have seen so many 2000 dollar, plus, items before but just now it seems expensive. Especially since it would cause my wife to then off me for the life insurance....

Just the one coat for Stargate SG1 is 500. But at 720 for materials AND can't make any errors at all..... now its a 2700 dollar cloak, minimum, custom order. Which again, is only spendy because we are a frugal lot that makes beautiful things out of scraps and see the whole world upside down, on cost, because we inject talent for free and only count the cost of the materials. Getting any of JohnHolliday 's stuff at the prices he charges is already a miracle because he is charging run item costs instead of custom one off prices.

Thank You Guys :) I am not really in this for the money at all, in fact how our company came together was that I was going to have ALL this stuff just made for me and I decided that if I am going to go through all this trouble I might as well offer it everyone else and if they want it great and if not it doesn't bother me one bit (as long as I get my stuff). I pay the same price as my customers do as I get no price breaks (although I do get my stuff made first, but then again, I am the genuine pig). My business partner who makes everything by hand gets to make the money as I want no part of it as she is 73 and on a fixed income. I try to produce the VERY BEST things I can, and I try to get them as close as humanly possible to what we see on the big and little screen. Do I want to pay $1200 for a cloak that will mainly hang on a mannequin in my studio? Answer is NO, but I do want the closest thing I can get to the original.

On a different note, the process for getting the Clint Eastwood Jed Copper Badge made has started  Artwork is done and now I am just waiting to see what the cost is to get them all made. I also have two more badges in the works after these are made. The first one is going to be one of the original badges the REAL Virgil Earp wore and the second is the badge is from the movie Silverado (Cobb's Badge). A few more badges are swirling around in my old brain, so God only knows what is going to come out after these badges

Well gentlemen, I heard back from the fabric dealer that I inquired about the cloak fabric, and I have good news and bad news. The bad news is that the color is all wrong for the cloak (see attached photos) as I think it is way to light in color to be Doc's cloak, as it has more of a silver tone to it than the dark charcoal color I am looking for. The good news is I will be saving a lot of money as I will not be having to buy this fabric for my project. The search continues ......................................
