Tombstone Val Kilmer / Doc Holliday Costume

Great job on those patterns Cameron 1138:cool::cool:(y)(y):love: Your first iteration of the diamond pattern is better than the second one IMO;)
Really? I'll see which JohnHolliday prefers then, the larger diamonds just feel a little too close together in the first version to me.

Edit: here's examples of both of them tiled so you can see them better at a smaller scale with repetition. V2 first:

Should have been doing other things today but I couldn't resist... here's a revised version of the silver vest pattern with some adjusted colors and updated flowers. I'm still a little worried it's too, I don't know, 'computer-y' and will look too inauthentic for an 1880s vest but it's hard to say how it'll actually look on fabric until we can get some samples printed.

I FREAKING LOVE IT !!!!!!!!

Hey Guys, I'm back :)

Sorry I was gone for so long, but I was on a very long business trip, and I really didn't have time to be playing on the old phone.

Okay, when it comes to the silver diamond fabric that Cameron1138 has done, it is really hard to see which one is closer to the original, so I guess my question would be how big are the diamonds on both prints? Both look TOTALLY AMAZING!

I can't wait to start getting this either weaved or printed as right now I think I have my guys overseas all confused  I told them let's just concentrate on the first fabric (black diamond that goes on the back of the gold vest) and then we will go back and work on the other fabrics. I do think that the gray/silver fabric with the flowers on it would probably look best printed on a gray/silver satin/silk fabric. Same goes for the gold vest front. The red however should be a weave fabric (in my book), the backs of the vests should be a printed satin/silk. Any thoughts on this????

Agreed about weaving the red fabric and printing the grey floral fabric, I think the silver diamond fabric should ideally be woven too though if possible (with a lighter weight fabric than the vest fronts). It's definitely woven based on this closeup, and I'm worried that with the lower contrast of that pattern it won't show up as well if printed.

The gold one should ideally be woven too but I think that pattern's a little more complex than I have time to handle, so it'd depend on if we can find someone who can recreate the pattern without having a design file.

The only one i wasn't clear on was "back of vests". Are those the diamonds?

On all prior to that statement, I say yes I agree.

My only caveat being the gray silver silk/satin has a hint of perriwinkle every time I see it onscreen. We have a weed that has those flowers that are blue heading to gray. I need to find a swatch before I commit to a color opinion but I sense a hint of blue. I looked up perriwinkle and it usually carries some purple and only some pettles are the blue. Give me a minute to find it.

I am 100% on board with that. If you can't find anyone to do the gold vest pattern, I can try going through my friend Marcus as he has a friend that did the dragon on the Johnny Ringo Shirt we are doing, and maybe he could do this for us???

Funny how I never noticed the gray diamond fabric was a weave as I have looked at these photos a million times. This just goes to show you how you can miss the forest because of the trees.

Cameron actually already has the color.

Cameron1138 what swatch color is your background on the 3 row rose pattern fabric?
The hex code is #c3cae5.

Might as well ask him, this is probably simpler than that dragon.

While waiting on samples and replies on other fabrics, I decided to dive into Doc's cloak that he wears to the O.K. Corral.

Now I know that this cloak (inverness coat/ulster coat) will never be 100% screen accurate, I am just going to have to do the very best that I can. With that being said I have found a fabric that I think we are going to use for this cloak. The buttons and cording we will get pretty close to match the original cloak. This cloak will be started after the shirts, vest and jacket is complete. Just something to work on as I sit in the waiting room.............. :)

First photo is of the original cloak and the second is a fabric that I am probably going to go with (wish it was a tad grayer in color, but beggars can't be choosey in this line of work).

I am going with "presents at 5 feet" for this comment's foundation:

I see the vertical lines in the original but not in the intended denim(ish).

I say that knowing that, at very close, we see a form of herringbone. I don't think the herringbone is visible at five feet nor would the vertical be at ten.

Take that for what it's worth.

As a color and material choice, it is close enough on both to present correctly at over 5 feet.... my op, of course.

The original fabric isn't herringbone, if you look closely at the fabric, you will see the fabric all runs one way except for strips between the two blue/purple narrow pinstripes. This is some really old woven fabric here on this original screen used cloak we are talking about. This fabric was brought over from France (I think that is the place???) when they were getting ready to make the wardrobe. I have turned the internet upside down trying to find it or something really close to it and this is what I got. Like I said, it's not going to be a 100% match, but it should be pretty close to the original when it is all done.

I think it's definitely a herringbone, just with a shallower angle between the stripes and thinner 'bones' within the strips than a traditional one would have.
Screenshot 2025-07-09 at 09.58.06.png

Herringbones with colored stripes mixed in like this aren't super uncommon but I haven't been able to find any charcoal with blue stripes that are quite close enough and within my price range. I'll probably look a little more but I've got a lightweight regular charcoal herringbone wool I'll use instead if I can't find anything closer.

According to the drawing of the cloak, the fabric is Charcoal Gray Melton. When I looked up this fabric online it looked nothing like the fabric on Doc's cloak, in fact it looked like the fabric on my cloak that I have (minus the color).

Pulling my hair out trying to find something close to Doc's Cloak fabric. I have found some but there either out of stock or there isn't enough to make even one cloak. Photos attached to this post is the closest I could find (yes that is a dark blue pinstripe in a charcoal herringbone fabric), but there isn't enough of it..................... Why in the hell does this have to be so damn difficult????
