Tomb Raider - The Clock of Ages (Progress Thread)

UPDATE:

Again, with the gracious help of 'Rebelscum', he has helped me finish up the center ring component that holds the clockworks, by CNC machining it out of solid aluminum.

I also finished carving the inner posts that hold the module in place.

Getting closer!!!:cool

Weather permitting, I hope to be able to get the engraved top and back covers made for the ring component in the next week or two.

As for lighting this thing, it may be possible, but we'll see after I get it all finished and assembled...

I think the inner posts are spot on in design. Can't wait to see your engraved top and base covers!

UPDATE:

The acrylic engravings for the top lid have been completed, and the Clock is looking more like the original prop!:D

Getting closer!!!:cool

Get out of here. This has got to be one of the most difficult props to make, just in sheer details alone. Let alone construction-wise.
Love how you use different materials to get the desired parts!

Re: Tomb Raider - The Clock of Ages (Progress Thread) PICS ADDED - Post #45!!!

:eek WOW

Will the back of the clock be able to balance on flat surface like it is shown in the movie?

Thanks, guys! Much appreciated!:)

The back of the clock has a flat surface on it, as seen in the screencaps on the first page in my first post. So, yes it will sit like it does in the film.

Wow. Looks fantastic.

Re: Tomb Raider - The Clock of Ages (Progress Thread) PICS ADDED - Post #45!!!

Very nice! Curious how you did the engraving for the lid. Was it down out of a solid piece, or did the engraver move over a dome shaped piece you already had made. When I was looking to do mine, The people I could afford and talked too were not very knowledgeable in how their machines worked, and could not tell me if the travel over a curved surface would produce the desired effect. Thats why I opted to 3D print my lid.

It was actually engraved with a laser on a flat piece of acrylic, then baked in the oven, and then formed over a glass globe to give it the dome curvature.;)

Maybe someone already asked this and I missed it, but will you be offering these for sale? Cause I'd definitely buy one! :)

Yes, I'll be doing a run of these!;)

As for price and how many, I won't know until I get the first one made.

Huh. Pretty cool. Never would have thought of doing it that way. Looking forward to seeing how it all turns out.

ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE! Are you planing on doing the interior as well?

Thanks! ...and, of course I'm doing the inside!;)

I'm currently working on the underside of the top cover (with the three dials), and the back cover. It probably won't be until after Christmas when I can get to complete the inside dials.
