Re: Tomb Raider - The Clock of Ages (Progress Thread) PICS ADDED - Post #45 & #64!!!

Thanks guys!

I've got some electronics coming in the mail. So, I'm going to see about lighting this thing up!;)

Although there is a problem! I'm not going to be able to light up the dials inside and in the lid. There's a bit too much work involved in running the wire up through the wall of the cylinder, through the hinge, and into the lid. Plus, the only pearl acrylic sheet I can find is three-ply, which has a black layer in between, which does not allow light through. Over time, I can also see the wire getting broken in the hinge from opening and closing the lid too many times.

However, I shouldn't have any problem lighting up the center "All-Seeing Eye", which will be lit up as the clock is in it's closed position.
As seen the pic below!

I'll be using a 4 LED unit (2 yellow, 2 orange) that does a gradual fade to each LED, which should give the fluctuating glowing effect as seen in the movie.

I find your electronic plan fascinating. However this means having an on/off switch.

At first thought - you could use that wheel at the base of the clock to activate it by turning.

This is AMAZING IN SO MANY LEVELS!!!

Yes, actually I'm going to use the white gear looking button on the bottom to switch it on.;)

Looks awesome... Excited to see more of it...

UPDATE:

A couple of more progress pics!

Here we have the inner dials set into the clock, which has the runes laser engraved into Pearloid. (The same stuff used for guitar pick guards.)

I'm still working on the switch mechanism, and hope to have it working by next weekend...

Thanks!
It won't glow blue, since the Pearloid doesn't allow light to pass through. However the center will light up and make the eye on the lid glow.

Will you be using blue 'Pearloid' on the finish design? If it is alterable.

Blue Pearloid would look a little weird in this prop, IMO, since it's supposed to be white, and only glow blue...:unsure

Re: Tomb Raider - The Clock of Ages (Progress Thread) PICS ADDED - Post #45 & #64!!!

Hope you don't mind me acting like a "concerned fan" of this! I like the prototype very much already ;)

Have you seen this particular screencap of the dials inside the lid? I think it had no special effect as the clock was held outdoors.

And to compare with special effects displaying both the dials and the clock together

Re: Tomb Raider - The Clock of Ages (Progress Thread) PICS ADDED - Post #45 & #64!!!

Yes, I've already seen those shots, and the blue is the lighting underneath. The pearl material is white until it is lit up...

The Pearloid that I have found is laminated with a black layer in between, which does not allow light to come through. Plus, even if I was able to source the right material, as I've said before, I would not be able to light up the lid without it costing you guys an additional $100 or so...
I'm trying to make a really nice prop that is somewhat affordable to make and buy... As of right now, the price is already going to be above $350 and rising...
