Saw it in the special Imax screening last week and really liked it. You could definitely tell the Director's favorite Godzilla movie was GMK, as he's stated in interviews. Like others have said, the Human story is strong and compelling, the plot isn't anything super new and most of the "Twists" or character moments are pretty well telegraphed, and the CGI isn't as strong as a lot of bigger studios (but to be fair they also havd like a tenth of the budget of Godzilla Vs Kong), but, it wasn't terrible, and definitely the strongest Godzilla CGI to come out of Toho. That said, some of Goji's movements did seem rather clunky or jerky, not as fluid as they could get out of their suits. It almost made me think they didn't base it on any Mo-Cap performances and tried to do it all from scratch. I could be wrong and they did have a Mo-Cap base, but the movements just felt less smooth than some of the suit performances we have gotten. I loved the new design, from the shoulders up. Something about his arms and lower body also just felt off to me.
All that said, I would encourage anyone to go see it, it really is a fantastic film.
