Todd's Costumes DL-44 Build

Thanks! I noticed one other thing about this solution when I was playing around with it this morning: the 8-32 rod, sans threads, is the exact diameter of the hole in the bolt stop. The upshot is that the bolt stop (and the bolt) don't wiggle around at all now. It feels really solid. I did have to add plenty of oil to the firing pin and bolt stop hole though.

UPDATE:

Well, I finished it off over the weekend. Cutting and fitting the cylinders for the heat sink proved to be more challenging than expected. The two large halves weren't a problem, but the small one... I just couldn't get it to fit as close to the Denix frame as I thought it should. After a lot of trimming, filing, and sanding, I finally managed to achieve a fit that I'm not entirely happy with, but at at least looks the part. I'm hesitant to remove any more material from the backside of the cylinder, so I may try fitting a one-piece part from Shapeways user gucabe (or somewhere else, if anyone has any recommendations.)

Other finishing details included bluing the firing pin mod to hide the off-center slot (I'll get around to making another one eventually), and sanding/bluing the flat machine screw that I'm using to replace the stock rounded Denix screw at the front of the frame to join the lower receiver to the slide.

I'm sure there will be additional tinkering every now and then, but for all intents and purposes, this one is completed.

Does anybody have a good recommendation for a display stand?

If you're interested, I have one of gucabe's cylinders that I've been playing with for my DL-44 airsoft build. I can put them on my denix if you want to see what it looks like....

Sorry for the poor lighting and cellphone pics. I feel these 3d printed pieces are a little loose on the denix because it was designed for cheaper airsoft guns. However, I'm sure you could mold the plastic tighter by softening it up with a heat gun or dunking in boiling water.

I guess if you think about it, they were plastic on the original prop, right?

Exactly. The Todd's kit cylinders are plastic too-- and technically screen accurate, since you have to cut and fit them yourself. I think the blame is on me for not achieving a fit that I'm happy with. I can't say for certain that I would like a one-piece part better, but I might as well try.

Chris,
Thanks again for the photos. I went ahead and ordered one, just to see how I like it. I'll hit it with a few thin coats of matte black paint when it arrives and do some shots with both the Todd's cylinders and gucabe's version for comparison.

Nice to see these out in circulation! The creativity and resourcefulness of this community is amazing!

Hey Todd, while you're here... what size are the tiny little screws on the scope body? I think I managed to misplace one.... or two.

Looking good! What grips are those on the Denix?
