Re: Tobin's Spirit Guide! (NEW sample pic pg. 4)

Hey OB, since DS is busy, I'd love to help.

Here's Slimer, about 42 hours of work all together:

It took me like three hours to finish the shading on his upper lip. It's probably the best drawing I've ever done.

:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol

Thanks TGG! I needed that! :lol

I'll drag my books out and throw a few pics your way after the holiday madness. My art's more "scrimshaw" like, all dark lines and shading.

Would love to see your work! :thumbsup

Just out of curiosity, how are you planning on getting the book printed?
Is there a printer than you can use to recreate a vintage style book?

I'm getting them printed. I have looked at a few places and all seem to be able to print in a way that would be authentic looking.

A book of this period (1928) should be hardcover with fabric covering and gold foil lettering. Easily attainable.

I'll get it printed on ivory paper so it has a little bit of an inherently older look to it.

I'll add that if anyone knows of a good printing place let me know! At the moment I'm just taking a stab in the dark.

Re: Tobin's Spirit Guide! (NEW sample pic pg. 4)

Awesome!
What about the paper weight? Do you you have options on that?

Re: Tobin's Spirit Guide! (NEW sample pic pg. 4)

This project is really looking great. TGG has brought the tone of it up a notch lol

Best

Depends on the place I end up choosing but I imagine so. :) My older books have slightly heavier paper than modern books.

You bet he has! Somehow I'm going to sneak that pic into the background of one of my drawings. :lol

A little Easter Egg for folks to find!

Re: Tobin's Spirit Guide! (NEW sample pic pg. 4)

As per Darth Saber's suggestion (and to ease my artistic insecurities) I'm going through the list and finding creatures that would make sense to have artwork from other sources. For the Christmas ghosts I'll be using John Leech's artwork from the first printing of A Christmas Carol, for Professor Moriarty I've got Sidney Paget's original illustration of him, etc.

I should be able to get almost 1/2 of these guys this way with images in which the copyright is LONG gone. :D

Re: Tobin's Spirit Guide!

I need as much info as possible about them though. Important items are:
-Place of origin (or place most commonly seen)
-Traits
-Visual description
-Accounts of encounters
-Any info on followers
Will there be a section for "proven" methods of dealing with these creatures?
ie: wolfbane, garlic, mirrors, etc.
Or will this come under "notes".

Re: Tobin's Spirit Guide! (NEW sample pic pg. 4)

Those points I listed there are just the essentials, if there's anything else it'll get in there. :)

I'm not dividing each entry into segments aside from:

Name
Also known as
Type (ie: Level 7 Vapour Floater)

Then a fully written entry that contains all the info available.

Re: Tobin's Spirit Guide! (NEW sample pic pg. 4)

Still looking for more Ghouls as well folks! Currently have 129. Would love to get that to 200 plus.

Suggestions please! :D

Re: Tobin's Spirit Guide! (NEW sample pic pg. 4)

Have a page layout nailed and about 18 pics ready. Gonna start pumping out some pages!

If anyone can find some nice large pre-1900 imagery for the following creatures I'd be awfully grateful:

Bigfoot/Yeti
Ghouls
Goblins
Imp
Gremlins
Banshee
Siren
Vampire
Tiamat
Cthulhu
Trolls
The Phantom
The Sandman

Hoping to get some of DS's old artwork as well as find some other sources. I don't think my style really lends itself to the book and I don't want it to suffer on that account. I'll keep working at it though! In all honesty the more old artwork I can find on the net the better, some of this stuff looks REALLY good on the pages. :)

Hey Orange,
I may be able to squeeze in some new wood cut style images.
In the meantime here are some of my older images. Unfortunately they're mostly creatures rather than spirits.
I may need to convert them to BW and adjust the values so they'll read better as BW images.

Re: Tobin's Spirit Guide! (NEW sample pic pg. 4)

VERY cool. I'm pretty sure I can use most if not all of those!

I'm going to PM you about the potential of a few pieces. ;)

Those are some great pictures! I especially like that one of the Kraken attacking the ship, very cool :thumbsup
