TMNT Replica Costume Sculpt *SHREDDER*

Re: 2012 TMNT Replica Costume Sculpt (Shell base)

Sculpted out the front portion of the shell real quick.
Used W.E.D. em-217
I like how quickly a piece comes together when using the clay but I definitely don't like trying to keep it wet. Its almost too soft as well.
Makes me real nervous about doing the other half of the shell.

Anyways here's the front half. Big thanks to Jacobzking for the stencil.

Re: 2012 TMNT Replica Costume Sculpt (Shell base)

damn... movin along. nice work!

also, what material are you considering for the shell? i'd consider something like flex foamit 17. something that can take some abuse.

also, not a big deal, but the breast piece at the top should sort of flare forward/a little lip... just sayin ;)

And the bottom or crotch area of the shell is supposed to tuck between the legs and connect to the rear shell

Re: 2012 TMNT Replica Costume Sculpt (Shell base)

here's a little gift for you (I'll send you a final one once we have shell measurements/gurth). this is a VERY rough mockup with vinyl... but I'd prefer to do real leather for the actual belt. it took me a bit to figure out how they made Mikey's belt attach/loop/hook, etc. but I think I got it :)

when I make the final deal, it will look much more tight (not loose gaps on the slits, etc...), and I'll use brass rivets in the middle where the loop is

cowabunga!

Agreed with the material! Will try to fix the shell:facepalm
Thanks again

I was delirious last night I guess. I will go back and fix the piece:facepalm
Thanks

The bottom strip will be bent and tucked between the legs and attached to the back of the shell.

Re: 2012 TMNT Replica Costume Sculpt (Front Shell Fix)

here some before sanding and after sanding the chucks. these are pretty much just like the ones mikey used in TMNT 1; light wood, octagon, black rope nunchakus.

i have 2 of these coming your way D.

also, heres a big photo of the penis protector. from the front of the suit, the "strip" goes straight back, sort of under your balls, then that strip attaches to the inside of the shell.

the black velcro strips on the top of the shell that you see here are to attach some bunched up leather/vinyl to the back of the shoulders. i'l take care of that part thought when I get a shell to work on ;)

one last thing... when you do the torso, we need to figure out a way to either sew some velcro (easy) or attach some push/snap buttons (not as easy) in to attach the top of the breast plate to the torso area.

Re: 2012 TMNT Replica Costume Sculpt (Front Shell Fix)

sorry for the uber horrible drawing, but here's sort of how it works for the screen used one...

the yellow area is the part you originally made, the pink is the strip that goes under the taint and past the hershey highway, then up to about the mid butt area. i think in the movie suits they had buttons that attached on the top right and top left of the pink triangle to the inside of the shell.

thats how it "should be" but honestly, its just makes things SO much more complicated to cast that front piece. if you just left it the way it originally was, casting would be easier, no one would notice, less buttons/velcro to attach to the suit when getting in to it, less parts to fail, etc.

your call though

PS: also, the breast plate should be about .5-.75" thick

Re: 2012 TMNT Replica Costume Sculpt (Front Shell Fix)

Hey Jacob,
So from your amazing sketch work! I believe I need to widen the crotch part at the very end like a "Y"
I'll go back to the piece and widen the end of it. I actually thought about doing it, but didn't.

Shouldn't be any trouble for molding because I will do it as a flat piece. Once its cast in flex-foamit, we can bend it back and snap it in place!

There will be lots of hidden velcro and straps to hold these pieces together but it shouldn't be much trouble. At least I hope so!

Those chucks are going to get me in trouble!! Feel sorry for the wife b/c stuff will be "ninja-ed"!

The chest plate is barely under an inch right now. I can go back and make it thinner or just cast it shallow. Either way could work.

Put on my big-boy pants and started adding clay to the back shell. It's in a very rough shape but there's no way I could knock the piece out in one night! Not with work from 7:00am-4:00pm.

So until tomorrow its wrapped with wet paper towels and wrapped in plastic!

Re: 2012 TMNT Replica Costume Sculpt (Front Shell Fix)

its a little more difficult to swing some chucks with 3 fingers, so my hats off to mikey :)

ps: dont get too excited D, this was just 3 seconds in photoshop... paint will be here tomorrow :cool

Re: 2012 TMNT Replica Costume Sculpt (Front Shell Fix)

Glad to see they made it there! Can't wait to see them with paint!!!:popcorn

And you do know you need to paint silicone with silicone correct?

Re: 2012 TMNT Replica Costume Sculpt (Front Shell Fix)

psycho paint FTW! should be here tomorrow. I'm headed out the door now to pick up some Toluene to think it for air brushing.

but thanks for the lookin out slime!

its hard to say exactly what things will really look like until you see it in person. we've all seen a couple of other builds that just never materialized. but these are BAD@SS!!!

That extra skin on the shell was actually a molded piece....not sure if it was part of the rear shell, or something that was added after the fact

Re: 2012 TMNT Replica Costume Sculpt (Front Shell Fix)

I believe it was used to cover the animatronics that were hidden on the back.

Re: 2012 TMNT Replica Costume Sculpt (Front Shell Fix)

one nearly screen accurate mikey belt coming up!

here's a "vinyl" prototype. honestly. I'm 99% happy with the vinyl belt. the only difference I can tell is that its a thinner material. on the real belt, where the belt weaves in and out of the slits, you can tell its much thicker. but probably not something most would ever notice. in any case, its being done in real leather... this was just a final mockup before butchering a cow.

also, like the screen used belt, I made the belt 2 pieces and laced it up in the back with brown eyelets. also used the brass rivets on the center loop. :)
