Just wanted to toss an update in here and let people know that for the time being I am not taking any new orders for finished sets, only kits at this time. Thanks.

Re: TJack's Amazing Spiderman 2 Faceshell and Lenses Combo *Kits available* see post

Ok, just to clarify again since I've had this question come up numerous times the last few days - the kit comes with all the parts I personally use when making a finished set. See my post at the bottom of page 25.

The shell, the domed acrylic lenses, the mesh, and the magnets.

You will be able to assemble it exactly the way they look in the first post.

Re: TJack's Amazing Spiderman 2 Faceshell and Lenses Combo

Thx guys, I hope they live up to your expectations!

Just to let everyone know, you may or may not need to modify the eyeholes as I didn't make them overly big since I know some people like to keep the eyehole as minimal as possible.

And before I forget, I want to say a big thank you to Biggeek1972 for his 3D model work on bringing the frame design to life, and to Lunaman for his input and countless reference photos as I was working on these.

Hey man what do you mean by model if you don't mind me asking? In other words how did you use it?

Thanks!
-Aaron

I gave him a bunch of sketches and measurements based on the huge file of pictures Lunaman and I reviewed while trying to determine the shape as best as we could. Biggeek1972 took that info and created a 3D model for me.

Probably the first time two of these shells have been in the same place. Myself (left) and chaosprince (right) showing how these combos look in-use.

Awesome job. I really love the black Superior Spider-Man lenses.

TJack, your shells really bring together the entirety of Spider-Man suits. I can't wait to get my hands on the kit.

I sprung for a heat gun and I'm able to shape the lens frames with ease. Only problem is they don't fit completely into the recesses.

Do I need to sand down the edges 'til they're rounded? I don't want to sand off too much and ruin the symmetry.

Hey Bill, they aren't supposed to fit into the recesses, they sit above the edge. The recess is there to provide space for the domes, otherwise the lenses won't sit flush against the shell.

No, no, don't sand them down. They don't fit down into the recesses in the current configuration, the recesses help align them along the top edge (you can 'feel' when they're in the right position) and provide space for the magnets and lenses so that the edges of the fame aren't sticking up above the surface. The fabric and the magnets and the inner structure of the lenses go down into the recesses, the frames stay on the top surface like the rest of the mask.

*Edit* Ah, TJack responded as I was writing this.

Hey guys,

Figured I'd throw this out there if anyone was having similar issues. Got my lens kit about a week ago, beautiful work as usual. Only problem I discovered was visibility outside in the sun. Inside is fine, outside not in direct sun is ok too but in the sun light I couldn't see a thing. Experimented a bit and what seems to work best is spray painting the back and inside of the holes of the white mesh black. This is what I ended up with and this was with the gloss black paint i used on the frames so if you used a matte black would be even better! Hope this helps

(left side is as it comes, right side painted black)

Re: TJack's Amazing Spiderman 2 Faceshell and Lenses Combo *Kits available* see post

How does the front of the white mesh look? I experimented with that myself during the R&D stages and found that painting the back of the white black caused the front of the white to look grey. That's one of the main reasons I added the fine aluminum mesh behind the white and instead paint the fine mesh black to reduce glare.

Re: TJack's Amazing Spiderman 2 Faceshell and Lenses Combo *Kits available* see post

It is slightly less white than before but I don't think it's a noticeable difference unless they're side by side. And this was a hackjob of painting just to see if it works because I wasn't able to take the mesh all the way out after I had put it together

Re: TJack's Amazing Spiderman 2 Faceshell and Lenses Combo *Kits available* see post

Sweet! Might have been the type of paint I was using, to me it was noticeable so I didn't continue making them that way.

Did you also apply a layer of white to the front surface? I'm only asking because on a few of the first trials that I had painted the backside black, afte a few weeks the black seemed to seep into the white and caused splotchy discolouration issues on the white surface. But again, that may have just been the paint I was using.

Re: TJack's Amazing Spiderman 2 Faceshell and Lenses Combo *Kits available* see post

Was thinking about that. Don't think I have white paint but I do believe I have some gesso laying around somewhere. Might be perfect

Re: TJack's Amazing Spiderman 2 Faceshell and Lenses Combo *Kits available* see post

Alrighty, applied a quick thin layer of gesso
