Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland Costumes

Aye, Keli found me some awesome Joker shoes! :D

Hey, speaking of which...I also look in the ladies shoes as well....If I ever found a more "fem" version of boots, would you be interested in them? I don't think many dudes would wear them, but I thought mabey you might. :) :p ;)

People proboly think I'm frakking crazy when I go to the store. :lol

EDIT - I forgot...I got talking about costumes at church today....And I was asked if I would consider helping put together a float for the Halloween parade. Then I mentioned my MH costume, and my sister's Alice, and then I was asked if I would think about helping to do a AIW float. :lol So...I need ideas people! :lol :p ;) (Tea party tables and stuff being a given! ;) )

get fake shrubs and whatnot and cut them into squares and other odd shapes!

hey Richard
i saw your sword in the FIDM Face book pictures
did you make it longer? or no, it sort of looks like you left it the same size
and how did you do the diamond part on the blade and make the knuckle guard? i have an idea for the Diamond, im just curious how you did it. but i just cant figure out that knuckle guard
as for the top, it kind of looks like you used a curtain rod end if in not mistaken

Yo Padawan,
some battles are not worth the effort and
making the claymore longer is one of them.
yup i left it the same length.
the diamond part is 2 pieces of triangle shaped wood glued to the
original then sanded to match.the knuckle guard is a 1' long piece of bent to shape aluminum drilled thru the original handle.(use that guerrilla glue as it expands ,its great stuff)and yes the 3 tips are matching curtian rods from bed bath and beyond.they look kewl enough.
this another one of those"is it worth the time"battles? dunno, if i get a wild hair i may make
more SA tips but I need to take a break from hatter stuff once in a while.
ALL u guys know where i'm coming from..
we've all been consumed by this for a year now.

I was so stoked to take pix next to the originals!!
man the red queen corset is REALLY close...

Asta,
Richard

Did they allow you to take photos of the costumes for your own?
I'm trying to find clear images of the Um shoes, and having no luck :(

Well can't really tell if they are flashes or garter ties. They are covered over by the thick tube sock like material. From the photos I have seen they appear to be the same tartan as the kilt but not too sure.

Hi there,
no they didnt.only 1 FIDM photographer was allowed to take pix of us in the gallery.

Did some preliminary testing on some ideas I had for Mirana's costume last night. Was prepping for my Husbands trip to Lilies War (SCA event) that he leaves for tomorrow so these were just quick tests.

Found some daisies for the little bits of flowers that poke up on the inside 'V' of her bodice. Painted them with a coat of pearl white and then a layer of gloss with iridescent glitter in it. the original flowers have an iridescent gloss over them but I haven't found one yet and hey, I really like glitter. ;)

I think I need to add a second layer of white pearl paint before the glitter but otherwise I think it will work out well! Will of course keep looking for the iridescent gloss paint sans glitter as well.

EDITED TO ADD: Have a few leads on opalescent paint; will be checking it out this afternoon!

I also tested my trusty 'puffy paint embroidery' trick for this costume. This would be for the net overlay on the main part of the bodice under the beaded swags as well as the 'fringe' of net leaves that poke out from the bottom of the corset. I put some tulle on some wax paper, squirted out some quick leaf shapes with glitter puffy paint and let it dry overnight. This morning (right before work so done *very* quickly) I cut out the shapes and voila! I will obviously try to match the leaf shapes closer on the real thing but this was just a test of theory.

Feeling accomplished. ;)

I'm so frustrated over them not having an opening party for this exhibit! If you attend an opening party, you're allowed to take photos.

Looks like I'm heading back to FIDM again to try and do better sketches of the shoes :(

As I've never covered shoes-and that's what I expect I need to do-any advice on what to use to hold fabric to a shoe?
I'm wearing Um to Comic Con, so the shoes will be heavily walked in.
My current plan is to purchase flats, some fabric to paint teeny tiny hearts onto, and then attach the fabric to the shoes.
Ideas?

after 82 pages of notes, Im sure someone noticed that his eyeshadow is 2 different colors?

Technically its 3-4 different colors depending on the scene, in the queens' workroom the blue side has green in it and the lavender side tends to have pinks in it from time to time.

Theres a Glue called E6000 that works great for shoes, just make sure you score up whatever part of the shoe you are preparing to glue to so that the glue was texture to cling to.

Wow Crimson, looks great!

as for glue, i used spray Tack to cover some TinerBelle shoes
then hot glue around the bottom edge
came out great

and you have to start from the front and work back

and Mojo where have you been
theres like the regular shades of purple and lavender, then the green tints
and the blacks
its like mood ring makeup
