Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland Costumes

And MY addition to the relevance of this discussion: having SEEN the hero hat in person, it IS an green color with greenish-brown unevenness, gold detailing, and there's no "tea smear", it's not a dyed color.

Tea smear? I missed that part of the conversation, my interest is peaked!

My problem with the hat is what I believe to be the findamental problem for people like us: do we replicate something how it looks in the movie? or do we go for what the actual item looks like in person? Because if you look at the trailers and such the hat almost looks black in some scenes. When I was running amok on Halloween as the hatter, every now and then people would say something like "does the hat have that crap on it? because in the commercial it doesn't."

I do HATE having to explain every little thing.

And the hat does have greens in it. My best description for it is a cammo scheme. What you think is black is actually a deep, dark green.

Chadrificus, that brim has always been a pain in the side. I put very little faith in the hats that Disney has thrown on display. While I'm unsure of which hat this guy I know owns, it's much closer to the hero hat that ones we've been shown. Seeing as shown Depp likes to take his costumes home with him, it's probably not the hero hat, but it is great for hands on referenece.

I am in the process of making one out of leather, and so far so good. It won't be finished for a few more weeks yet, just because I'm hand stitching alot. I prefer the gold zigzag look from D23 to the gold fleck look of the hero hat, so thats the one I'm doing. heres my first attempt, I made this one this summer out of washable suede: (lets see if this works)

Boy Chadrificus, if you thought this topic was asleep, I sure helped wake it up for you. lol
We've seen people do this hat a lot of different ways, paper mache, suede, ect. The general public has such a wide array of what looks right & what doesn't. Only the true collectors will know the difference. :)

Jodo, I'm getting a lace front wig from the same place I've gotten all my others from. I believe they go for about $300? I don't remember because it's been such a while since I've ordered them. For a custom lace wig, that's an excellent price. Just shoot me an email or a PM if you're interested & I can ut you in touch with them.

On a side note and pushing this thread back on track… does anybody think the screen used hats (the lace pattern) may have been laser cut? It would be much cheaper and faster than the thought of a studio producing multiple hats that take so much effort to hand cut.

If you look up close on the D23 hat and such, there are tiny more subtle designs punched too. I think that it is definatly machine punched, or burned or whatever it is. Given that Colleen had his leather jacket cut with lasers to pinstripe it, its very likely that she had this leather done mechanically.

EDIT: I'm sure what was written here before has been seen and hopefully I got my point across, at this point I hope the mods just trim the obnoxious comment about my relationship and the pricebashing out and let that be the end of it. I've edited this so perhaps the discussion won't get tied up again.

So moving on to a question about non-hatter Alice stuff, are any ladies here planning on doing something from this movie? As I posted earlier in this thread there are now a couple "beginning of movie" Alice dresses floating around, I think if I did one I'd go for the Alice armor look. This is a pic of the armor I got at the exhibit at SDCC:

The torso armor is really interesting because it has a sort of shaped corset-look to it, I haven't seen a lot of, well, "fitted period armor" done before. (I'd jump all over that costume and start buying the bondo for this now but I have too many things in my costume schedule for this coming year anyways lol. :wacko Maybe 2011!) Has anyone seen/gotten pictures of this from the back?

Oddly enough I used a Carrot Top wig. This one is great too because it was inexpensive, looked great, and had a scalp in it too. I also have since made the eyebrows, I just haven't taken pics with them on yet.

Did it come with inflatable arms too? :p ;) :lol

Do you have a link to where you go it? PM it to me, I want that wig!!!!! :love

Wow, this thread got ugly.

Here's hoping I can critique without insulting. Toby knows I can never compete with the resources he has at his disposal, so consider this observations from the peanut gallery.

The shape of the hat looks much better than the first attempt, especially the flare out at the top, but the base still looks a little small, the hat ribbon/scarf therefore having trouble "grabbing on." I'd love to hear more about the process of shaping the leather on the hat form. (And I'll cut off my foot to see your reference pics. :lol)

As to the question of Alice's size in the new trailer, look again. She's shown at multiple sizes, one of which being SEVEN FEET TALL. Check out the scene of the Hatter throwing the fabrics. She's standing next to him. Also her sitting at the Red Queen's side. HUGE. I won't spoil with script explainations, but go ahead and take another look.

Hey folks,

I just finished cleaning up the thread.

It´s a cornucopia of information, so please keep it that way.

Thanks,
