Tiger & Bunny Suit (armored ver. WIP)

hello, sorry i have not been on in forever. I have been busy with family and the holidays and collage applying stuff. I have not touched my costume in forever but I'm existed to get back on it and be dun with the helmet. and move on. :)

@dei sooooo excited to see the costume. what do you need to do with for the maintenance of the costume.

Boots need to be sanded down and repainted, helmet electronics need to be checked, costume needs to be ironed, etc :D

Ahaha...So I tried my hand at unfolding a portion of the 3D model - specifically, the pauldrons. I had my boyfriend separate the pieces from the rest of the model, and I imported it into Pepakura. I did the auto unfold and it spit out an unfold that looked like it should come together properly on its own, so I added numbers, edges, and tried to scale it up quite a bit. The measurements I put in SEEMED right, but the entire thing fit on one single page. I knew it should be much bigger than that, but for the sake of practice and getting a scope of just how big it would actually come out, I decided to print it like that and put it together.

(linking because I'm too lazy to upload the photos to a site where I can link them here, and I hate that you have to be logged into the forum to view attachments)

Needless to say, it came out SUPER tiny, hahaha, but I'm glad the unfold worked at least. Apparently the actual length of a mm does not apply in Pepakura??? I put in 500 mm (19 inches) as the width, and this is how it came out. And here I thought scaling would be easy, so long as I knew how big I wanted it to be. XD NOPE

My problem now is that I can't quite wrap my head around how to cut it up into smaller pieces that I can spread out over the pages. I played around with the "specify open edges" tool, and when I unfolded it after that, it divided it up, but I can't figure out how it determines how the pieces are shaped/where it decides the pieces will cut off. I think I need to look at a few tutorials before I get back to that. :confused When I get them properly scaled and cut up (and once I purchased the full version of the program...) I'll post the unfold for it here.

In the meantime, now that I have cardstock, I have nothing to hold me back from printing out the helmet unfold that Crimson posted a while back! I'm off to go do that now. :)

Scaling is tricky, as I've found too. The only way I know how to get it the way I want is through trial and error. :T After I've made sure my print/paper settings reflect the size of paper I'm printing on (which is 8.5x11), I'll change the scale to some random guess that is larger, look at the 2D view to see how long certain parts look (approximately) on the 8.5x11 sheets they're sitting on, and gauge by that. If it's close, I'll print it out and fold it and see how close it ends up being. I did that with Bunny's shoulder piece and it turns out it need to be bigger, so I'm going to give it another go when I have time. Hope that helps! I'm not sure which character/which part you're working on, but you'll pretty much have to customize each part, as I don't think you can use the same scale on everything.

With that said, I've *gasp* finally made some progress! I've put together my helmet (just the cardstock, and it's only temporarily assembled for scaling's sake), I've printed and folded one of the shoulders (though I need to print it larger and do it again - too small), aaand I've even been working on unfolding the shoes! :) Now that I understand the join/disjoin tool, I can actually do some unfolding on my own. I tried my shoe unfold out last night and it came out great - just too small, again, so I'll try that again later. :)

Hello, just registered to THERPF for this thread. Once the sun rises I'm going to print out the unfolded Bunny Helmet CrimsonAether kindly uploaded for us.

This is my first adventure in making a costume (well, the helmet first and foremost). I'm projecting a two year build, just because of what I want to do with it....That and I'm a complete noob! But I really hate rushing and I'm extremely fussy. I'll post a picture of my completed unfold!

Thanks to everyone in this thread for all the gathered information, it's going to make it a lot easier to build.

Welcome to the Thread! Can't wait to see progress pics. It's a good idea not to rush it, if you do, you'll make mistakes, like I did :(

@Saidai: Welcome! I agree that slow and steady wins the race, especially when it comes to something new and complicated! Good luck with your build, and be sure to share your progress with us here! :D

@Crimson: lol Thanks for sharing those photos with us. Love them!

Okay, so I'm a big dumdum and finally figured out (I think, anyway) how the scaling works in Pepakura. So I thought the length, width, and depth were measured as if the model was in a box, so that you'd measure out from the center of it...well, actually, I think it goes by the length of the surface area. So for example, with my chest armor, I used to take my measuring tape and measure straight across, from shoulder to shoulder, the width of the entire piece. But what I should be doing is laying the measuring tape against my chest, accounting for any dips or hills there may be on that surface, which will give it a longer measurement. Same goes for the length. Measure the bottom of the chest piece, up over the chest, and along the curves of the neck. When I did it that way, the measurements of the pep piece matched up with the chest measurements. <insert glorious victory fanfare>

This took me forever to finally figure out! I'll do just about everything wrong before I do it right, but at least I finally got it to work. XD

HHEEEEEYYYYY EVERYYBOODDYYYY!!!

Sorry, I've been kinda out of it for a while with school and all, and I'm probably not the only one, but guess what!?
I FINALLY GOT AROUND TO UNFOLDING SOME PIECES FOR BUNNY'S ARMOR!!!
