Tiger & Bunny Suit (armored ver. WIP)

(Fixing up my friends English...)

Hello, I know I have not been apart of this thread but i have an issue I cant seam to figure out. I am not sure how to use pepakura the way all of you have to make these magnificent files for the public, but in the thread you included tigers armor that has bean chopped into peices that can be easily assembled, but have not done the same for the bunny armor. I'm sorry if this sounds rude, but I really need help. Can any of you separate the armor for me? I'm going to anime Boston and I really need to get started because my friend has already gotten started on his tiger costume. Please help me!

Thank you!

Welcome to the thread! Unfortunately, no one has unfolded Bunny's armor yet. :( There's one other person who said he/she was going to give it a try and then post the unfolded files here if he/she had any success, but either they haven't had the time or haven't had any luck because they haven't posted anything yet. I myself briefly tried to unfold a small part of his armor just to see what the program was like and to see if I could do it, but quickly found out there is a lot for me to figure out! I got some pretty weird results and I think it was partially due to not being able to zoom in and cut more precisely. But anyway, I really want to unfold the armor but currently can't do much since I am about to move, and I would have tried printing what I unfolded to test it out, but as luck would have it, our printer ran out of ink and we're about to get rid of it anyway. XD;; So I'm at a standstill on it, as much as I don't want to be. I keep hoping someone who has lots of time and knows what they're doing will unfold the armor, but so far, no such luck!

thank you, i will try to keep looking around the web and work on my costume in different areas i hope someone will post the files before its too late for me. i will post my progress as much as possible. consider me a new member of the thread ;).

by the way Starlit Rose your costumes are awesome rely dig all your cosplay costumes. have you won any contests or are you like me and just like to cosplay at conventions=).

Woohoo! I finally have 20 posts and don't have that huge notice at the top of the page anymore, lol.

@barnaby brooks: Oh, thank you very much! I've taken part in the skit portion of masquerades a few times and won an award once from doing that, and the one time I entered for craftsmanship on a costume, I got a judge's award (though considering the convention and the inebriated state of the "judges", I don't really count it - long story). But otherwise, I just cosplay for the conventions themselves and for doing photoshoots with friends. :) Competitions take up a lot of time, and I don't feel confident enough about my craftsmanship to really stand a chance against most people I'd be up against. Besides, nothing is more fun than goofing around in costume with my friends!

If you start to run out of time and no one's posted Bunny's unfolds, you might consider just drafting your own patterns and working with other materials. Before I decided to try pepakura, I was making my suit out of EVA foam, cardboard, papier mache, and misc. other materials. I'll actually still be keeping some of the foam parts, but I decided that if I'm going to be moving across the country and can use pepakura instead, there's no sense in going through the trouble of transporting my bulky cardboard armor. Just don't think that because there aren't any pep files yet, that you can't make the costume some other way. Might not end up as perfectly accurate as pepakura armor would look, but you can certainly get some great results with other methods. If you're dead-set on going the pepakura route though, this thread is your best bet for finding someone who will unfold and post it.

you should be proud and confident in your works and there is always a chance that you can win. but i can understand that feeling of people taking pictures with you and just having fun role playing and parading in costumes and its a very satisfying feeling you get when you are wearing something that you made and that others think is cool.

thank you for the advice. i was thinking of free styling with some fiber glass and paper. a little over a year ago some one on this thread posted a picture of there bunny helmet but they never put the pepakura file online so i wondered if that is floating around. i know the helmet will be difficult to free style.:lol

Hi there, Welcome to the thread!

You're in Luck! I've actually been hard at work unfolding Bunny's armor, but I'm not completely done yet. I just started a couple of days ago and I got the helmet done, but still have the other pieces to separate and unfold.

I may not be able to finish everything until around November, but don't worry, I'm already hard at work on the next piece. Oh yeah, If you're wondering about the skinny string pieces off to the side of the unfolded pieces, those are just small edges and lips that are unnecessary for a foam build. I'm making my armor entirely out of foam now, so I just use the thickness of the foam as my edges and lips.

Here's the link for the helmet:

Good luck on the build, if you have any questions, just pop back in over here
and we can help you out.

Happy Building :)

-snipsnip- Blah blah I'm the awesomest ever and am unfolding Bunny for y'all

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

agdfrghdh CRIMSON YOU ARE THE BEST THANK YOU SO MUCH AHHHHHHH!!!!

Seriously. You have no idea how happy I am to see this post. :D I went into Pepakura Designer again last night to try to figure out how to zoom and see if I could get better results (I had trouble before because I'm on my laptop, no mouse). I figured out how to zoom finally, and cut more precisely, but when I went to unfold it all, it looked like an even bigger mess than what I had before, argh. So many small pieces everywhere when I think there should be a big chunk of it connected together. (I was trying to unfold one of his pauldrons.) So to see you say that you're working on unfolding RIGHT after my 2nd failed attempt to unfold something I think should be a simple shape...Good timing! :thumbsup

OMG you are the best i almost cried in front of my whole class ( i am a senor in high school) when i saw your post, you are awesome. keep on trunk-en on the unfolding you do grate work my friend. i relay appreciate this. :) i am so excited to get going i will post pix on my progress. keep on posting all of you guys. i am glad i found this thread :)

Lol, I don't remember saying that :D I'm glad I can help, I'll try to get more things unfolded for you guys soon :)

There is a tool on the top of screen called "Specify open edges" (use that when making cut lines on 3D model before it has been unfolded. If the model has already been unfolded, right click on the right side of the screen where the unfold pieces are and choose "join/disjoin edges" and with that you can either separate pieces on either the 3D model or 2D unfolded pieces. Basically all of your tools are on the mouse: right-clicking, middle mouse button, etc.

Also, Very important when unfolding and also finishing your piece, make sure you click on "2DPatternWindow". There are a bunch on things you can change here. "Show Edge ID" is very important to know which pieces connect to which, and "Show Flaps" is important if you want to make the armor pieces in paper and resin. Click on "Change Scale of Development" and then -->"Specify the Scale" to change the general size of the entire armor piece. A males head is bigger than a females head, so you may want to change the size just a bit. Since this is a Japanese program, everything is measured in metric, so everything is going to be in millimeters. This goes with all of the armor pieces, I'm a 6'2" male, so I assume, these pieces are going to be pretty big on you guys.

Actually we have similar build crimson. I'm only 6'1" but the helmet is a good size, from what I have put together. I guess I'm rely in luck. :). when I get home I hope to finish the gluing today and maybe the first coat of fiberglass.

Lol, I don't remember saying that :D

Sorry, that's all I was able to hear! ;)

Thanks for the tips! I'm actually really curious to find out how much I'll need to adjust the scaling. Since I'm using a muscle suit and plan to wear a wig under my helmet (in addition to the tail bone-length hair that will be stuffed under it) I'm hoping it'll end up being close to what I need. I stand at juuust under 6 ft with my lovely tall hooker heels and the bodysuit "buffs" me up to a comparable size to my boyfriend (who is 6'2), so, fingers crossed on that. This is going to be a fun proportioning adventure.

Wow, you are wasting NO time, haha! Definitely post your progress here when you get it put together! :D

hi this is some of my progress, and me and my friend got these cool tees from some online store, and it looks like the suits of armor there really cool. as for the helmet, at first it was really overwhelming but i bit the bullet and i got relativity far. sadly i did not get to finish the construction but i will probably do it when i get home from school tomorrow. but hear are the pix of this adventure.

While trying to figure out the mechanics for Bunny's helmet, I finally found a clip that clearly shows what the heck is going on in the back when he raises his visor. It does a lot more than I thought! I thought the top part was all that moved, but the entire back kind of folds down too. I ghetto-screencapped the part from Hulu (lol) and made it into a gif for easy reference. I think this could be helpful for other Barnaby suit makers!

helmetflipanimation.gif

And then, I had this other gif on hand that shows what the front looks like too, also very helpful, so I'll post it too:

bunnyhelmetflip.gif
it is a good thing you posted this otherwise i would be screwed in putting this thing together. I know have the mechanics to do this :thumbsup

I'm glad the gifs will be useful. :) Nice progress! Wow, already fiberglassing. Thanks for the pictures!! At this rate you'll have it done in no time. :D

thank you, i love to see progress my self, i think its cool that anything in pepakura is just a program and in time it becomes a actual thing that you can hold. I hope I can finish it I still am experimenting with ways to make the clear part of the ears. and after this its bondo paint and electronics. I really want LEDs in the eyes and I think I can pull it off without blinding my self throughout Anime Boston LOL. and I need to do something with ball bearings to have the helmet move properly.so I will start to move along in the next couple of days:) I put up more pix later.
