Tie Bomber Question

Hi guys, I am currently scratch building the Tie Bomber the same way ILM and some of you did. I have about 99% of the parts and just had a question. What is the best way to build the cylinder shaped part that connects the wings to the hull? It looks like a complex structure, with solid diagonal parts coming off above and below. It has me stumped. I took a look at the structure and what I would do is to try to break down the strut into basic elements. Start with a piece of tubing slip on some larger size tubing to build up the wing mounting side and add the triangluar braces and other parts a little at a time.
