Hi everyone from New Zealand (kiwiland to most folks). I think it's customary to introduce myself so here goes. I just cannot seem to get enough time to build Star Wars models having never lost the bug since 1977. All you guys that build and contribute info to this site, i'm totalllly in awe of your expertise and quite simply you all rock.
This is my first ever studio-scale replica so it's so far been a real learning curve. The central tube is machined pvc turned to the correct diameter and the wing connectors are also machined but in acrylic. Some of the parts have just been placed not glued yet. I will keep this model kit parts only (no resin) and will have no cockpit with the wires being seen through the openings.
Eagle-1, my user name is very similar to yours, i didn't realise this when i registered let me know if this is a problem and i will change it if possible?

Re: newbie TieBomber plus pics

Thanks for the good words guys. Damn i knew this would happen, just can't put this thing down to do other stuff like chores, yuk!. Anyway i'm still workin on the wings scribing the lines on inside of wings glue the kit parts and then move onto the body tube scribing.:lol

Re: newbie TieBomber (new progress plus pics)

That looks pretty damn good! Keep us updated!!!
Well its been a while but here's where I'm at about 80% complete and 2-3 weeks to go. Centre box is machined acrylic block with centre hole milled out for a strong structure. Bomb tube front dome was a curse to make but looks good in primer.

Re: newbie TieBomber plus pics

That's coming together beautifully. I love this ship. :thumbsup

A few more pics. I have found that the Tamiya surface primer (fine) sprays on beautifully from the can and doesn't obliterate surface detail with even pencil markings still visible.

Re: newbie TieBomber plus pics

Always love me a TB buildup... one of my favs. That's looking fantastic!

Re: newbie TieBomber plus pics

Thanks guys for all the kind words.:$ I think all the bombers I've seen on the boards are a credit to their makers but to finally have this one materialize in my hot little hands is amazing. From my first pics I posted ages ago I had'nt done much at all, (due to full-time study) but nearly all the work in the latest pics were done in a month and should be finished in about 3 weeks, yayyyyy.
Kevin, always admired your bomber gantry diorama, that's one cooool piece of coolness my friend.
Regards to all

Re: newbie TieBomber plus pics

Hi all, 3 weeks i said to finish this thing, yeah right!!. This WILL be done in 2 weeks period. I decided to put in a cockpit just for my satisfaction really, i don't like the look of the empty hole in the real deal. Will prime today and get into detail painting this week. This baby needs to be wrapped up to clear my bench for a project Iv'e been wanting to build for ages.

Love your work. Can't wait to see more. You should kit this puppy. :) I'd be in for one that's for sure.

Tie Bomber/ Almost there, Finally!!

Hi all, thought I'd post my progress pics, just about there, working on the final paint scheme now.

Re: Update!! newbie TieBomber plus pics

More update pics!. I am using Floquil railroad colors for this model, never used them before and I like, very nice to airbrush but whew the fumes!!. Here's the model in Floquil primer.

Re: Update!! newbie TieBomber plus pics

OK, here's where I'm at with the final color, first coat. My first impression is EEkk that's tooo blue, but what I found is that if you mix Floquil primer with the Floquil color mix it gives you the ability to buff the top coat with a medium brush to create a subtle weathered effect which I like. By doing this you get an overall effect of a weathered bomber!. The mix comes out quite gritty when dry but I like this buffable quality it gives.
I'm trying to see how far I can go with this as in some shots it looks a shade of green, but the photography process renders it grey, hmm?.
