Tie Bomber- Job Done!

Well, thanks guys, glad you like her!.

Scratchy- Yeah be great to see a cockpit in someone else's bomber, so give it a go, love to see some pics mate, just can't get enough of bomber builds, everyone who's built one always seems to go about it a different way and now that every part has been ID it's a fairly straightforward build lol!.
Stu

I love the cockpit idea. I've been working on my TIE Bomber for a couple of weeks now. Almost done the wings and am going to start on the rest soon. Looking at your cockpit, I'm also going to do this.

I have Jackill's blueprints of the bomber and am going to use this as reference. Might consider opening the missile/bomb bay to show that off too. Don't think anyone has done that and the blueprints show a lot of detail here. The crossbar might be difficult to get around though for the bay. I'll tackle this when I start the main area.

Re: newbie TieBomber plus pics

Thanks for the good words guys. Damn i knew this would happen, just can't put this thing down to do other stuff like chores, yuk!. Anyway i'm still workin on the wings scribing the lines on inside of wings glue the kit parts and then move onto the body tube scribing.:lol

Heh Stu & all Tie bomber builders, I'm just starting to get my head into this as a build, The first thing that is bugging me is the line on the inner wing extensions! On some of the ref available it looks very much like a step, as though its layered styrene or possibly some kind of tape?

Is it def scribed or is there a step there? I know it can be hard to judge when light hits a scribed line it can make it look very (not scribed). I'd love some opinions if people have them.

Scribed lines Guy, no doubt. But ILM's scribed lines are not like the lines we like to see on our builds. They look more like trenches than thin and crisp scribed lines ! :lol That's why under certain lightings, the opposite edge of the scribed lines is enlighted and create an effect of step, like if it was a raised panel.

Hope this helps mate !

A while ago, i always thought this line was done with a pencil :lol

Pretty chuffed, just bagged my vintage Shinano at long last, i think Julien bought them ALL :lol

Disregard lol, i know now Guy means the styrene X1 wing extension.....duhhh lol!

Cheers Julien, Lee. I had already panned to add a step so thats just made it a hole lot easier.

God, I have a ton of questions but am ashamed to ask.

Just one then....Whats the best way to cut the hole in the Plastruct dome? I was going to dremel & then sand. Does anyone have a trade secret for cutting these damn holes?

Stu, sorry mate I'll start my own thread, promise.

Don't be shy Guy !

I used my dremel too, there're probably other ways but that was the easiest with the tool I had...

I'm gathering the parts to build this model as well. Guy, hit me up before you buy a ton of kits. I made a few molds of parts that are used multiple times. :)

No worries Guy, you can thrash this thread & ask as many questions as you want mate!.
Looking forward to seeing you build the bomber, I'm pretty sure your paint job will blow every other bomber build out the window lol!

I'm fairly confident the line is scribed on the styrene wing extensions.
There is present though, a sort of trench where the styrene butts up to the existing kit wing. This should be all level & not stepped, but I could see how this may be interpreted as a step.

Oh yeah, the dome cutting. I drew a line with a pencil resting on the same level that needs to be cut & used a razor saw to cut the top off close to the line, then sanded. Wait to you get to the bombing tube dome mate, what a PITA to make lol!.

Thanks Stu, I'm just at the stage of going over & over the ref to make sure I know what I'm doing. I think I have about 90% of the kit parts now also, as well as a very nice set from your good self.

Hey Guy, when I made the holes in the domes I drew a circle on the dome with a compass, slightly smaller than the vader window part. I sanded the cockpit dome down to the line, and then fine tuned it, constantly checking against the vader window part to make sure I hadn't sanded it back too far. As for the weapons pod...similar thing, just draw a smaller circle and divide it up. If you work out how long each side of the hexagon ?..needs to be, you can use the compass again as dividers to mark out the circle, and then draw the lines of the hexagon inside the circle. Drill out the center, then file it out to the lines. It's a bit of a faff though..:lol Does that make any sense whatsoever ? :confused Oh yeah..chronicals book, brilliant for this, a great help with marking out the other cut outs on the edges of the weapons dome too.:wacko

Cheers

Phil

I used an adjustable hole cutter, then sanded the last mm or so to fit the DV canopy frame, worked really well. Phil's advice on the bomb tube dome is spot on, make a hole, the file in the flats, the Chronicles pic is perfect for this.
Its funny, i sorted out all my kit parts into a nice storage tray a while back (think im just shy on the Hanomags), and wanted to make a start, but first job is scribing, and i hate scribing lol.

Another beautiful double chili dog… now I'm hungry againi:lol
Great job!!!

On my own Bomber, I cut the octogonal hole using a hand coping saw (see image). It's fast, easy, and only need a few sanding to finish.
