Tick Tock..................A work in Progress

Clock of Ages from Tomb Raider

Gathered as much info from the web and here on this board as I could find and got to work making the lid for this sought after piece.
I got a little antsy and didn't have the correct colors, so the silver is wrong, and the weathering is a bit heavy, but all in all I like the way the piece came out of the mold. This was a test shot done as a proof of concept. No hole in the middle, and no overlaid engraving done yet.
As for the rest of it, all in due time, as said time presents itself. Time, heh heh, what a funny thing that is.

If you haven'y guessed what it is I'm talking about, how about a pic or two.

Very nice. I picked this piece up off eBay, but I know nothing about it (nor did the seller). I'm wondering if it is clock related.

I've seen that piece before. its very nice indded. Almost picked one up. From the pics I have gathered, the lower third does not seem to match the clock. I do like the constellation/ star chart image though.

No, wait... But I will be very VERY happy :D

Good thing. I am pretty damn sure I'm not your type. :)
If I do ever get this thing done, it will be in resin, not metal unfortunatly. Bit out of my price range to attempt.

Oddly enough, it is neither. I redrew the knot pattern in Illustrator and had a bunch of vinyl cut outs done at work. After weeding, I stacked 4 layers on top of each other and then laid it down on a domed piece form a ceiling fan that looked about right. Did a mold of that and voila. I was going to do a wax version and carve in the overlying parts and the cicrcle by hand, but the wax was too soft. Looks like a dremel and a very fine dental pick are in my near future.

BTW Juno--I backtracked the link in your sig. to your flicker account. With all the experience you seem to have in small metal work and etching (I know you also have a desktop cnc), I am surprised you have not tackled this project yourself as of yet.

Been doing research on all the symbols on the clock face and on the edge of the outer piece. Not much luck in ID'ing them though.

SHHH... Don't tell anyone. My mission in life is to get this $%&#$@ alethiometer done. I really love the Tomb Radier clock though.

Very cool though I was hoping for the windup automaton from "Return to Oz"-

If you do it again, use sandblasting mask and a 60deg. blade you will only need 1 layer and not have to mess with alignment of the pieces when layering.

Ok, been a very long while since I got back to this project.
I picked it up again last weekend and started roughing out the outer ring.
After doing a LOT of comparison with the screen grabs and taking copious measurements, I have come to the conclusion that the lid I had started on as a basis is too big. SON OF A B-------------..
So, I am putting out the call. Based on any and all reference that you may have access to, how big do you put the inner piece being in diameter?? I originally had it at 4.5 inches. Not sure why I setttled on that number now, it has been too long since I started. Any help would be appreciated.
I plan on doing the lid again from scratch, in the same fashion as before. I do not have access to sandblasing equip. or I might have given that method a try.
Thanks for any assist.

Ah I saw Tick Tock and thought of the old Time Tunnel shows. Now I understand.

I was thinking of the Royal Army of OZ Tick Tock

Well here, its been nearly 2 years since I did anything with this. Still not done. I decided a few weeks back to draw this in Sketchup to help me better visualize all the details. I can also re-size the scale with a click of the mouse If is need to. :)
Having the most information on the lid, I started with that. When the drawings are done, I will add dimensions in case anyone wants to try to tackle this project from a "Blueprint" standpoint. The 3D model will also be posted to Google's 3D warehouse for anyone to use.

That looks Stargate related I suspect the centre is the eye of Raa plus the pyramid and the rest is just Stargate....Just my thoughts the ring around the eye is a gate if you zoom in

It's the clock from Tomb Raider. :)

You don't need sandblasting equipment, just the mask that you cut on a plotter. If you need blasting equipment I have a small booth though.
