Re: EVA Foam Mark VI Iron Man Build - Collar plate, Neck and Top Spine Pics - 3/03

This in essence is the final neck. Too much detail will just get lost when ridges of shoulder are next to it and the helmet itself.

Thanks! I'll post a pic of the whole thing thus far once I finish the back. That way it will all keep itself together.

I'm like a kid in a candy store watching this thread.

I cannot wait for you to finish the back. Although, are you going to start doing the covering/sanding soon?

Re: EVA Foam Mark VI Iron Man Build - Collar plate, Neck and Top Spine Pics - 3/03

Hey Jordan, did you have to heat shape the EVA foam at all, or was this all done through cutting in the right places and gluing to form the curves?

Re: EVA Foam Mark VI Iron Man Build - Collar plate, Neck and Top Spine Pics - 3/03

Just so everyone knows this is not EVA foam flooring. This is a closed celled eva type foam in 4mm thickness. Thus why I've gotten such small details and stuff.

I have not heat shaped the foam at all and I use hot glue.

jordan can you tell me how to do the eyes for the helmet i am lost

Re: EVA Foam Mark VI Iron Man Build - Collar plate, Neck and Top Spine Pics - 3/03

When you say do the eyes... do you mean the opening themselves or the lighting?

If it's the lighting you speak of... you can do this a million different ways...

EL Strips cut into rectangular shapes where you see out the bottom...
Frosted plastic with leds behind it to diffuse the light...
The list goes on and on...

What are you having issues with?

Re: EVA Foam Mark VI Iron Man Build - Collar plate, Neck and Top Spine Pics - 3/03

i have no idea how to make it with LED bulbs

Re: EVA Foam Mark VI Iron Man Build - Collar plate, Neck and Top Spine Pics - 3/03

LOL... I just used xmas leds that run off of a battery pack.. I then hot glued them down to frosted plastic pieces around the top and side perimeter of each piece... then I backfilled more hot glue into them.. then layed down foil on the back of each and then finally black foam to block light from hitting my eyes...

The glue diffuses the leds and the foil helps distribute the light even more.

Re: EVA Foam Mark VI Iron Man Build - Collar plate, Neck and Top Spine Pics - 3/03

on your neck seal wher will it open to put it on.. in the front or behind the spine? Your detail is amazing on this suit
I may have to get thinner foam Before I try my mark 4,5, or 6

Re: EVA Foam Mark VI Iron Man Build - Collar plate, Neck and Top Spine Pics - 3/03

I will have it open down the side or front... really doesn't matter as a lot of it won't even be seen anyways.

Re: EVA Foam Mark VI Iron Man Build - Collar plate, Neck and Top Spine Pics - 3/03

This suit is going to be amazing. any updates!!!

Re: EVA Foam Mark VI Iron Man Build - Collar plate, Neck and Top Spine Pics - 3/03

Hey guys. Sorry for the lack of updates. I appreciate all the support though. I am starting the back today. Please note that I work full time through the week and weekends are often spent cleaning, yardwork repairing things.. LOL so I wish I had more time to work on the costume.

Re: EVA Foam Mark VI Iron Man Build - Collar plate, Neck and Top Spine Pics - 3/03

Yo sir jordan! that's looking killer! I was wonderin' what would you use for sealing up/covering the joined edges? Found myself some eva foam you're using and started on the rubber parts of my wm. Oh btw,i was with DR yesterday. You should've been there! :)

Re: EVA Foam Mark VI Iron Man Build - Collar plate, Neck and Top Spine Pics - 3/03

Just DR I am using thin layer of bondo on seams and then using the automotive epoxy primer.
