Re: EVA Foam Mark VI Iron Man Build - Pepped Helmet Pics!!! - 4/17

The bondo won't cure in general no matter what I've tried. Not really worried anymore as I won't really need it.

when you say taht the bondo will not cure properly, are you meaning when you mix it for the pep or just for the foam?

Not sure I am going to go the slick sand route... by this response It is safe to assume this is Macky. Welcome back.

I'll help you figure something out. Are still thinking about using Slick Sand for the foam armor?

Smooth Cast is sold by Smooth On. Either buy it directly from Smooth On or at Dick Blick... both online.

where did you order your Smooth on stuff from?

Oh yeah and as another update. I've begun work on the back. So I should have pics of chest, back, neck and arm ready soon.

Re: EVA Foam Mark VI Iron Man Build - Pepped Helmet Pics!!! - 4/17

anyway i could persuade you to share some of your simplified pep stencils?? the arms you built are so awesome...dude you have to come down to orlando for halloween.

Re: EVA Foam Mark VI Iron Man Build - Pepped Helmet Pics!!! - 4/17

thats odd that your bondo will not cure what type were you going to use? I am using 3m bondo and that stuff is awesome to work with. and out of curiosity, have you considered a self etching primer then bondo to the surface of the foam? I have not tried working with the foam yet so I am not sure if it will work but just spitting out ideas

Re: EVA Foam Mark VI Iron Man Build - Pepped Helmet Pics!!! - 4/17

Are you fiberglassing the foam or the cardstock pep? If its the foam it probably won't work because its porus and too flexable. The bondo is mixed @ golf ball size to 1" strip of hardener. But if you moved on to Smoothcast you probably are better off. Keep Building!....

Re: EVA Foam Mark VI Iron Man Build - Pepped Helmet Pics!!! - 4/17

It had nothing to do the with the foam. I even bought a couple diff kinds thinking the hardener was bad or something. I tried just mixing batches and letting them cure.. never got any harder than a hard rubber feeling... deff not sandable.

None the less I am going to plasti-dip my foam suit. So no worries.

Update regarding the suit.

I have the back almost complete. Once I get that done I'll quickly build the collar plates and connect it all to give you guys a everything I have done so far being worn type photo.. lol

Maybe mid day sat or sun.

Re: EVA Foam Mark VI Iron Man Build - Pepped Helmet Pics!!! - 4/17

Sweet ... looking forward to the pics ... I would kill for extended periods of time to work on my armor. sucks about the bondo issues your having. at least the plastidip will flex similar to the foam so it hopefully will not come apart. You know the foam though I just wanna see the results you produce ...

Update Time!!!

First of all these are my old thighs, cod, etc... I am removing each old part as I make the new part.

So guys.. as you can see... it is still very much rough but I wanted to show you guys something. I am going to be devising a buckle or velcro or magnet section to close up the back once suited... it's just taped for now. I am also creating circular rings which will be worn around armpit and above shoulder under the chest armor.

And like always.. details will be put in later.. using a soldering iron.. great method.

Here are the pics. :)

Small Update.

Partially finished abs... still need to do the side and back.. but this gives you an idea.

The top two ab sections are connected to the chest.. they will overlap the bottom front abs when I bend forward... got this idea from both Don Roberts... and the Slideshow figure is built to articulate the same way.

Man this is looking sick as #3!! ... great job so far Graphic. Very stunning so far. You seem to handle the soldering iron steady when doing details. a video of that would be cool. I would really be interested in the reaction to the foam and how fast you can go through each line. hope I am not asking to much.

Looks incredible dude! I do love the shape of the Mk VI chest piece, I'm just not crazy about the silver and gold arms and hips... There are some promotional pictures though where he has the same colored suit, but with the MK VI chest. I really like that look...

Re: EVA Foam Mark VI Iron Man Build - Torso Pics Up - Chest/Back and Abs! - 4/24

Thanks guys! And Saber. I haven't used the soldering iron yet. Detail lines are being put in last. The abs are all separate pieces with layered pieces to give it the details.

Re: EVA Foam Mark VI Iron Man Build - Torso Pics Up - Chest/Back and Abs! - 4/24

Hoping to finish up back/sides of abs and attach the spine pieces.
