Thrall WOW Cosplay

I have been hard at work. Much to post. Finally cast my mask, and very happy with the results. I started sculpting a year ago with no real certainty that I could sculpt, mold, and cast a wearable mask. I did have an issue with the inner core. It was not aligned right and was 1/2 inch to high. Fortunately the design had a lot of silicone in the face so I physically removed alot of material from the inside with an exacto knife To allow the mask to fit better. In the end I will be using an adhesive so a perfect fit was not crucial, but it would have been preferred.

Also, started covering the muscle suit in silicone.

That is amazing. The mask is very detailed! how is the side-to-side movement? On another note, do you have any tips on skinning a muscle suit? I am carving a suit right now and am not sure how to skin it with foam before I spray it with latex.

I am truly excited to see this build progress!

i love this thread for all the skills one aquires while working on cosplay :D sculpting (both clay and foam), foam fabricating, worbla, molding casting, leatherwork etc. is there anything you cant do? :D

I might go to Blizzcon but this is intended for eccc next week.

Sewed the sashes and painted the trim.

Also finishing the silicone on the muscle suit to prepare for painting this weekend.

Painting underway. ToOK a little while to learn how to use an airbrush and struggled with finding the right mix of silicone, pigment, and thinner. The goal is to finish the painting today. Then punch hair and attach the teeth tomorrow.

It's 1/4" thick upholstery foam glued over rough cut 1" upholstery foam muscles that are glued to a compression shirt. Pretty simple and very labor intensive, but the results turned out better than I anticipated.

May be a dumb question, but is it open or closed cell foam? I think this would be great for any type of muscle suit. Excellent work you've done!

It's open cell. I started with a standard open cell soft foam (Chest and biceps), then started using a foam that feels more like memory foam.

So as it turns out painting silicone is hard. I learned a lot in this process. Probably not the ideal situation to learn how to use an airbrush. I am happy with the results but if I we're to do it again would start with an original cast that colored closer to what the finished color should be. The less color on the surface the better. I found that the more transparency you can preserve in the original cast the more realistic it looks. Unfortunately all the color I painted sits right on the surface and removes the transparency making it look more mask like.

Paskadi....this build is awesome! The muscle suit and mask turned out really great.

What type of silicone did you use for your mask? Looks like DragonSkin from SmoothOn but figured I'd ask. Also, did you back the silicone with some kind of foam or filler or is the mask 100% silicone?

It's 100% dragonskin silicone.

Marching through been working for more than 24 hours straight. Need to finish before I go to bed. Sigh...

Progress:
