Thorssoli's Ironman MkIII Build - Finished Suit Pics Page 26!!

Re: Just What This Forum Needs: Another Ironman Build

Alright I'm gonna be That Guy for a minute. That armor is not called "Godkiller". "Godkiller" is the name of the story arc in which it first appeared. This is the Godkiller "armor", and it's not even an Iron Man armor, it's a 4.7 mile tall pilotable mech. It's more of a Gundam than an armor.

The helmet you're making is the Space Armor Mk 3 which Stark wears as a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy. Yes I realize that name sounds boring next to "Godkiller", but if you're gonna sculpt it then I want to help make sure you've got the facts straight.

Re: Just What This Forum Needs: Another Ironman Build

I'm sorry but I'm insanely, insanely envious of your 3D Printer. That has got to be so awesome for many of your costume parts. I'm just starting the build of my costume the old fashioned way. Nice stuff man.

I will defer to your greater knowledge of the subject. I'll still end up calling it "Godkiller" so I don't confuse it with my other MkIII stuffs.

Is that Iron Moustache Man?

No, silly, it's the space armor MkIII from the Godkiller story arc.

In other news, I've also started the MkXXXIII Silver Centurion helmet based on Fierfek's files:

Because I really need more projects right now...

Re: Just What This Forum Needs: Another Ironman Build

People are getting more and more interested in the MKIII Space ("GodKiller") I need to finish my suit fast!!!!

If you decide you want a copy of my helmet, let me know.

I'm making progress on that one:

I'm working slow so I can go back over each layer and rework the symmetry. It needs more attention:

Back to strapping the MkIII together tomorrow. Stay tuned...

Just an amazing build... Thanks for documenting the process, I have enjoyed following along. The results are second to none!

That's a pretty tight timeline. Let me know if you start to think you won't get it done in time. My sculpt is nearly finished and it turns out I do a decent job with that sort of thing:

UPDATE: Strapping time.

Yesterday I got a few packages of these:

I epoxied some of the D-ring hangers into the chest and attached loops of bungee cord:

Then I added some corresponding hooks to the inside of the backplate:

When I riveted the shoulder plates together, I added a D-ring hanger to each side as well as more bungee cord:

Here's a shot of the whole arrangement from the inside:

Here's a wider angle to give you a better idea of what you're looking at:

So aside from a buckle to hold the upper arm in place and some elastic to keep the shoulder plates spread open, this part is done:

For the bottom half, I added some loops of elastic and some side release buckles to the lower end of the iron corset:

These will hold up the thighs:

The last thing I did was rig hooks and loops for the pelvis in the same manner as the chest:

The spine protector and abdomen plate will be strapped to the pelvis and have suspender straps at the top to keep everything in place. Here's a shot of the pelvis and spine protector from the outside:

My plan for donning the suit is to start with the waist, then the thighs, then strap on the pelvis (with attached spine and ab plates), then shins/boots, then arms/glove, then have someone else put the chest, back, and helmet on me.

Now I just need to paint up all of the rubber parts so they'll match the hard parts.

With any luck, it'll all be done soon. Stay tuned.

Re: Just What This Forum Needs: Another Ironman Build

That is a gorgeous lid! have you ever sculpted before? And thanks for the offer but like i said may need to sell lids in the future to pay off my huge debt on my suit =P Anyways I have a good few sculptor friends who've offered to help if i get screwed for time so should be shiney!

Re: Just What This Forum Needs: Another Ironman Build

Absolutely stellar. The shot of the assembled chest and arms sitting on the bench makes me just giddy with excitement.

Re: Just What This Forum Needs: Another Ironman Build

Wow! Your work is an ispiration! Amazing!!

The arrangement of the spine parts is really cool!

Re: Just What This Forum Needs: Another Ironman Build

Thank you all for the compliments. They really are like fuel for this kind of project.

Yesterday I pulled the pieces of the girlfriend's helmet off the shelf, dusted them off, and started experimenting with the linkage for the jaw and faceplate. Here's a shot of it open:

And from another angle:

And a closeup of the inside:

Here it is closed:

As you can see, the faceplate is part of a simple 4-bar linkage. The lower link has a tab hanging off of it which is bolted to length of aluminum tubing that actuates the jaw. The jaw pivots on the end of a link which can slide back and forth as the jaw opens and closes. The bottom end is held in tension with a pair of rubber bands.

The whole thing is still a bit rough, but with a bit of tweaking and replacing the rubber bands with small springs, this baby's almost ready for servos.

Getting so close...

Re: Just What This Forum Needs: Another Ironman Build

Hi,

really great and amazing work. Would you like to sell parts or a whole battle suit?
You know, it would get to germany.

Best regards

Re: Just What This Forum Needs: Another Ironman Build

You never fail to impress me Shawn, the servo and hinge set up you'd got there works like a dream. I'm really looking forward to see you suited up! Thanks for showing everything in such detail.

Did I miss a post about the links/hinges, or is this the first you posted about it? Getting the helmet moving was the most recent interesting thing that I was hoping to see in your build.

Also, the Godkiller helmet looks fantastic! I hope to see that in the JY. =)
