I used this version of Thor as a model for the costume. The circular panels below his belt don't appear to be metallic. This photo shows that the panels actually fold with the fabric, and aren't like the four metallic disks on his chest and stomach.

Here are two more pictures of the costume. I used wood to make the belt buckle and the four armor disks. The hammer is also made of wood and is completely solid.... it is ridiculously heavy.
